Subject: [Audyssey] Help with Soccer Boss

 Hi Guys,
Could someone who loves soccer also look at
 http://www.tacticalmanager.co.uk/soccerboss/index.php
and maybe give me some advice on how do I show more sessions? Never mind
if you're not understanding what I'm talking about, when you register
you'll see what I mean. Since I've never played it, I've got no clue
really how accessible it is. The great thing is that it uses real players.
What's also very fun about this game is that it's not really about your
club, it's more about you as a manager in the real world, since one club
can decide to sack you if you're not performing well, and then you have to
look for another club to manage, so you really have to make tough
decisions so that you don't lose your job!
 And what's embarrassing?
When you get sacked, it's anounced on the News site!
But, as I said, I still can't play because I can't get it to display more
sessions from 7 upwards, I don't know if you need sighted help if it's
some funny control you click on or what the trick is, since clicking
next or index or even more free sessions isn't helping.
I've emailed the webmaster, but have had no response.

 Hey guys;

I've registered on Popomundo about 6 or so weeks ago; can't remember
wen I checked the entered popomundo thing. But there's one problem.
The band that I'm in ran by Robert Kilner, is inactive. Robert is
inactive, that is, who's my friend but he's not interested in playing
or something. Do anyone on this list have open band invitations? I
also need help getting my skills up from tarable. I figured they'd go
up as you write more and things, but I guess not. Any help would be great.

 Thanks.

Good site, and highly useful methinks when the audio gamemaker comes out.
Some of their selections were a bit odd though.

thinking rpg environments, i was looking for some wind sound effects.
Searching under wind brought me lots of smashing window sounds, whilst
searching under weather got some wonderful rain and thunder effects,
 but
 no wind.

Also, when trying to find ambience for dungeon environments, the only
 entry
it got me (when I searched under Tunnels was an underground train ;D.
Though I would guess that a dungeon environment would be fairly easy to
recreate using the audio game maker's own acoustics, and maybe some
 dripping
water or burning torche effects for a bit of atmosphere.

Hopefully though, once a community of audio game producers has built up,
there will be a fair library of generic object sounds available to use.
though I don't think it would be right to copy the sounds people create
themselves, specifically for charactors or situations in their own games.

so, taking sod as an example, sounds like the wind, step, and weapon
 firing
sounds would probably be okay to copy, sinse they're fairly generic
 objects,
but the monster sounds are unique to sod. If you coppied the mutant human
sound into your own game, for all intents and purposes, your monsters are
then Sod mutant humans, whatever you intend them to be. so if you used
 the
mutant human sound for an ogre in a fantasy game, it wouldn't actually be
 an
ogre, imho it'd be more like a sod mutant human pretending to be an ogre.

it would be like cutting the sprites (graffic representations of
charactors), out of one main stream game and coppying them into another,
 and
in most cases this isn't exactly legal.

Of course, if you were making a sod 2 or something like, you'd need the
mutant human sound to represent mutant humans.

but other than that, i really! don't think coppying the charactor sounds
from other games is a good idea, even if it were legal.

 Beware the Grue!

Subject: [Audyssey] Killer web based game for free

  Hi gang,
Based on Liam's suggestion, I have been playing Popomundo the last couple
 of weeks.
I have played a few web based games, but this one is by far the best.
A lot of people might have been put off thinking it is just another music
band management game, and it can certainly cover that base well, but it is
 a
 whole lot more.
Lots of folks play that don't even mess with the music stuff, playing as
lawyers, police officers, doctors, and all sorts of stuff.
There are always lots of people on there to interact with, and you really
get the sense you are developing a character for the long term.
It takes a while to get going, just as in real life, but it is a very
rewarding game, and you will meet all sorts of people from around the
 world
 there.
I made contact with a blind guy in Italy who is also a blind programmer,
and we discuss all sorts of things over email now, plus our characters in
the game can now help each other out.
Anyhow, if you like role playing or character development in the least, I
highly reccomend you check this one out.
  The website is
  www.popomundo.com
If you sign up, send me a message, my character name in the game is Gerry
Johnston, just go to the community link and do a search for my name.
Also, be sure and check out the newbie forum in the game, tons of good
advice there, and they have the most accessible forum system I have ever
 seen.
Have fun, and let us know on the list how you like it.
  Che

Subject: [Audyssey] Side-scroller consessions.

 Hello gamers,
In light of the several emails on and off list to me about my decision
to create a 3D FPS game verses a side-scroller I feel I have no choice
but to do as everyone asks. For those gamers bound and determined to
have a side-scroller do or die what I will do is go back to James
North's original plans and put out some kind of game along the
Montezuma's Revenge lines. I will restore Arizona Smith to the game, and
do whatever it takes to just get the fricking game completed and out of
my life. Since you want the game James North was creating you will get
it just as James had planned it. No more no less.
As for those interested in the 3D FPS version of Mysteries Of the Aztecs
I am still interested in creating this game, but obviously I will put it
in the things to do pile down the road.
Finally, I have one last thing to say to this community before I sign
off. I am really disappointed in those of you who have made such a fuss
and an issue over this. I try very hard to produce good and high quality
games. I even want to go above and beyond the norm by trying things that
have never been done before by an accessible game developer. All I get
in return is a lot of grief and misery for my effort. From this time
forward I will complete your games you got from James North as
advertised, but it comes at a price.
Before today I use to take polls, gather suggestions from end users, and
use to gather your ideas to put into my games. I was always very open
about my thoughts, plans, ideas, etc. However, that has been shattered.
From now on when I create games I plan to be more or less quiet about
my plans, new game ideas, and end user suggestions will be selectively
used at my descression. I see now running polls like the one about
weather to make a FPS or a side-scroller was a horrible mistake as it is
being used to force me to do something I really do not want to do. If it
was the poll alone i wouldn't mind so much, but since the majority of
those were paid customers I am between the rock and the hard place.
Neither option is exactly a great place to be from where I sit, but your
demands to force me into this decision only makes it harder to enjoy
making accessible games. I can tell you right now I will create the
side-scroller, but the next few months are going to be purgatory,
slavery, whatever you want to call it.
Being the victem of this communities backlash I can tell you why James
North became dispondant and left this community in the manner he did.
All we developers hear is give me, give me, give me, I want, I want, I
want, regardless of how the developer feels or thinks about the matter.
Apparently developers aren't allowed to have lives or desires of their
own and must soully entertain the blind gamers out there for their every
whim. If I ever create a game for this community after these two games
are completed you will be pretty darn lucky. i am sick of the stress and
 grief you put me through.

If I can figure out what you posted, maybe I can point out the flaws.
Here's what you sent, just as you sent it, with my responses.

hi well thanks to sarah and michael moaning as per usula, we now
have to have a side scroller, which the dveloper, clearly, does not
want to make. just be grateful with your six levels and where's your
 game michael eh?
You moan at tom where's your two, three four five years ago you said
you were making it, where is it?

My response: Are you referring the the game that Michael had in mind and
had started to create? If you are, I suggest you search the back issues
 of
Audyssey magazine. Gradually, issue by issue, your answer is there, from
Michael's point of vies. Also note that he had not accepted any money for
his upcoming game. He had ideas, he started working on them, and he found
what he was going to be encountering. He expressed, quite well, his
feelings as time progressed. There is no really honest comparison between
his decision on game production and that of Thomas Ward in this case.

 You continue:

i expect to see a side scroller out from you next year. You try doing
that michael with family commitments and if your heart wasn't in it
 see how you feel.

 My response? See above.

 You continue:

you moaners disgust me to be honest, if i were
thomas i'd jsut forget you lot and make what i want, i if i were him,
am the game dveloper certainly not yu, and yes you paid for a side
scroller, but the direction the game is taking is much better.

My response: Proofread and spell check your messages. This was horrible!
This may be a better game, but it is totally different than what we have
been waiting for for so long. Very recently, this was planned as a future
game in a series, and the expected, paid for, and anticipated game was to
have been the first, and I don't see why that plan should not be followed,
other than burnout on the part of the developer. Maybe it's sort of like
when running a marathon. There is, for some people, an imaginary wall
 that
is very difficult to pass beyond, but once they persistively push on
 through
the barrier, they're through. They conquer the blockage. What a relief
 to
be done with it, finally! It's over! Now, I can move on to bigger and
better things! I think that is what he should do on behalf of his
customers. I'm thinking that he has acquired new potential buyers by
 taking
on both what were Montezuma's Revenge and ESP Raceway, and these will
 become
paying customers as time goes on. I think that it will be better, in the
long run, to give gamers what they want before providing us with what he
 has
in mind for the future. After seeing someone produce a good product,
 you're
more apt to continuing support by buying future games because of honesty,
integrety, fortitude, and willingness to please customers.

 You continue:

honestly you lot moan when a game is too easy then moan we don't ahve
 complex games
for god sake get a life and start making your own games, side
scrollers and all to those few hwo are moaning

 I respond:

I never moan because a game is too easy or too hard. Some games are very
easy to play, yet hard to win. The current game is easy on the easy
difficulty, and more difficult as the skill level is increased. That's
 why
the skill levels are there. I have never completed Shades of Doom. Not
because it is too hard, but because I just haven't spent the time taken to
really work at beating it. Change Reaction is an easy game to play, yet
frustrating. Monkey Business is a hard game to beat for me, as is Aliens
 in
the Outback. I like all of these games, not because they are hard to
 beat,
but because they are fun. A side scroller is easy to navigate, but it
 does
not have to be too easily beaten. Even if the easiest level is easy to
defeat, it does give you the satisfaction of winning, and I enjoy playing
Troopanum2 on the easiest mission on the easiest level just so I win once
 in
a while. It is fun. As for asking why we don't go ahead and make our own
games, I ask how many games you have made available to us? Are there
 games
you would like to see made available? If so, I await your product. If
there are games you would like to see that aren't out there, why haven't
 you
created them? Put your games where your posts are. Don't complain that
 we
should not complain and that we should make our own games until you have
done so, so that you can speak from experience.

 You continue:

I agree totally with this statement.

As I said, we don't need sidescrollers. I've said it in the past.
Super Liam is a game that shows us that sidescrollers are:

 1. Too easy:
 2: No replay value:
3: Too retro (When was the last time a sighted gamer even mentioned
that a sidescroller was coming out?) Well, no one did simply because
there isn't one, and there never will be. If the sighted people have 3-
D games, we should be getting them too. I know people like me who
don't play audio games because of this simple factor. A bunch of us
have said it before, and I'll say it again since Tomas was the only
one that seemed to notice: We have too much arcade games. We don't
have a single complex game out there that is challenging and or
competes with, Monkey Business. Which is, in case the babies of the
blind community haven't noticed, and probably haven't beaten it yet,
the most challenging game in the accessible games market today. Now
it'd be considered a classic. But Tomas, please just make the audio
games market better by making both STFC 2 and Moda 3-D. To get the
sidescroller out of the way, slap some code together real fast. If
there's bugs? Tuff luck. Also, make it freeware and forget about it.
Than you can start to work on extremely hard, and complex games with
new consepts that blind people have never sceen before in an
 accessible game.

Let's put this in perspective. Most of the time I program for fun. I

It is a well known fact i write these games in my free or spare time.

After that i'd say most of the other games out there at the moment are

And most of the devs we at least no about, haven't put out anything for

[Audyssey] okay being the voice of reason

2008-03-22 Thread ian mcnamara
hi all i may not be a modorater and yes i have done my fair share of flaming
with this subject. now i feel this has gone on long enuff and i think it is
time to end this disscussion. i have three points i want to make then i am
going to be leaving this dissussion and not contributing any more to it.

1. instead of arguing among our selves and keeping this flaming up all our
efferts should be in poswaiding thomas that we are worth making games for and
that staying would be rewarding for him. i have backed thomas up in a private
email and will back him fully with this coumpany of his as he is honist and
sencer. please excuse spelling mastakes.

2. i agree with sean everist change needs to take place in the blind gamers
community we need more games like monky business which i still have not cracked
it is by far the most challenging game out their. so sean is write if we are
going to stay with the same jonra of games for ever what is the point in this
community? thomas and chee have the write idear thinking big thomas with the
toom hunter stuff and chee with the roleplaying project. we should back theese
kind of developers to the hilt as they want to make blind games close to
sighted stuff. is that not what we are looking for?

3. i would like to appolajise for any one i may have affended in the
disscussion and would one day like to learn programming my self to make games
but don't know if that will ever be possable for me. keep the good games
comming and the changes for the better.

take care thanks for reading and i hope that i get some positive responce to

 Hi Michael,
I have read your email and find myself for the most part agreeing with
you about work ethics, sticking things through to the end, and trying to
follow through with promises made. It was both my promises as well as
the fact I took pre-orders in December why I have changed my mind and
have decided to begin work on a new side-scroller with a treasure
hunting and archeology type theme to replace Montezuma's Revenge.
In your email it is quite clear you are disappointed about the fact
Montezuma's Revenge was canceled. I also recognize your desire to have a
side-scroller as close to the original Montezuma's Revenge idea as
possible. how ever, as you know I was recently asked to take the
Montezuma's Return game down do to copyright issues and to cease and
desist from producing that type of game. Rather than argue with the
copyright holder's demands I agreed to meet all of their terms. If it
hadn't been for that major set back the game would probably be nearly
 finished by now.
I certainly can not promise you a Montezuma's Revenge game, but perhaps
I can create a side-scroller of equal value that will be satisfactory to
you and others that were so hoping for Montezuma's Revenge/Montezuma's
Return. About the best I can do is try and deliver another high quality
side-scroller with action, adventure, and of course treasure hunting. I
honestly don't know if you will like it or not, but all I can do is try.
One of the ideas I am considering for the new side-scroller is changing
the location of the game to ancient Egypt. One of the reasons for the
change to Egypt is I have always liked he Egyptian type enemies like
bats, mummies, snakes, scorpions, crocodiles, etc that are popular in
games about Egypt. The gods and goddesses of Egypt make very cool
 enemies or bosses.
Another very good reason to think about Egypt is in more contemporary
times archeologist's have discovered the Egyptian jewelers had access to
some kind of low voltage electric power in order to create electroplated
jewelry. Like the Babylonians the ancient Egyptians may have used dry
cell type badderies filled with fruit juices and a copper rod to produce
electric current. The reason this is important is in the Montezuma's
Revenge games there are electric fields that would have been beyond the
Aztec's technical means, but the ancient Egyptians may have had the
technological ability to use dry cell batteries to power some kind of
electric trip wire as a trap.
Then, of course there is the entire science fiction and pop culture
things to think about. Many authors have inferred that the ancient
Egyptians are descendants of an alien race or people from Atlantice. The
movie Star Gate made an interesting theory that Egypt had been
controlled by an alien race that had gated to Earth thousands of years
in the passed and then the gate was closed on our end and was berried
until it was rediscovered in modern times. Then, there was that
television series where the family was visiting the pyramids of Egypt
and then got transported to another world through some interplanetary
gate. The movies Mummy and Mummy Returns has certainly turned your
classic Mummy creature into a cool and awesome enemy to fight. What I am
saying these are the kinds of things I would like to hope to explore in
my new game if I can without reprisal.
About the only thing the new side-scroller will have in common with
Montezuma's Revenge is you will still be gathering jewels, gold coins,
climbing ropes, avoiding fire pits, but the rest of the game is bound to
change and take a different direction as i create it. As the game's soul
developer I do feel I have the right at least to come up with a good
story line and create whatever monsters and characters will fill the
game world. I don't feel I should be bound to a game like Montezuma's
Revenge now that I have been asked specifically by Utopia not to do so.
In short I am truly sorry I was unable to deliver on Montezuma's
Revenge. However, now that I have agreed with Utopia to cease and desist
on that title I have to come up with something new. At first I had hoped
a 3D FPS game would satisfy you and others. Apparently that idea failed.
So I am back to square one, thinking of a new game, that is a
side-scroller. Unfortunately, I can not deliver the side-scroller game
you ordered, but maybe I can deliver a side-scroller you can except as a
 substitution.
 Thanks.

 Hi Charles,
I think as a community we all have learned a lesson about pre-ordering.
Even for the most well intentioned developer pre-ordering is for all
intents and purposes pretty darn difficult to manage. Once you begin
taking orders you will then be expected to complete the game in some
sort of timely manner. In addition to the time factor if you are selling
a game with one kind of story, genre, style of game play, and later
change your mind you are sort of stuck. You advertised one thing and
decide you aren't happy with it you have x number of people expecting
one game while yourself now wants to move in a different direction with
it. I find myself bound to my pre-orders and I have to own up to the
fact I took about 150 orders over the holidays and have no choice but to
follow through with the side-scroller project.
In the future if I don't use pre-ordering and only announce working
demos and betas offered as free downloads and decide to go somewhere
different I am not obligated to the community to stick to the games
original plans. I will have free license to modify, fix, change,
 anything I like.

 Charles Rivard wrote:
Actually, the fact that we won't be able to preorder is not all that sad.
 I
just means that the company won't be pressured by some gamers who have
 their
own deadlines they expect the company to meet. James North set his own
deadlines, announced them and said that they were expected deadlines,
 then
ran into problems with the games and missed those expected deadlines.
Gamers got furious with the delays and griped. He retaliated heatedly,
 and
finally got fed up with it, sold his finished games to Adora
 Entertainment,
sold his unfinished ones to Thomas Ward, and left. Thomas got stuck with
the preorders and is now running into sort of the same thing. The time
 he
has taken isn't the issue. The type of game ordered versus the type of
 game
he now wants to produce in place of what was bought by gamers is the
 issue.
Fortunately for us, he has the willingness to produce some sort of game
 for
those who bought it before he got it, and then do more of what he really
wants to do with his time. I hope Raceway will be what he envisioned it
 to
 be when it comes out.

Subject: [Audyssey] RPG Audio Game

 Hi everyone,

I'm new to this list. Dark at the audiogames.net forums recommended that I
post the details of my project here.

I'm currently programming an audio RPG game sort of a cross between a
rouge-like (a genre I love) and Final Fantasy. So far it creates random
dungeons with twisty halls and rooms, allows you to navigate the dungeon
with audio, and offers preliminary combat, inventory, and equipment.

The rogue-like elements are random dungeons, items, and battles. It's
similar to Final Fantasy in combat: which is carried out in real time. My
vision for this game is grand. Absolutely huge. But I'm starting small.
 I'm
hoping to have a basic playable version that I can build on with feedback
 from gamers.

I've been posting my progress regularly and I feel I've come a long way in
 a
short time. I have a few major milestones left to code, but I want to have
 a
small basic shell out soon. The devil is always in the details and I've
 been
holed up battling annoying audio menu problems the last 2 days. I think
 I've
coded them into oblivion today finally.

Ideally, I want to create a fun enough game to warrant a purchase so I
 could
do this full time. I haven't given a lot of thought to that yet though.
 What
I'm working on now is a fully functional free version. The scope of the
 game
design is fairly large but I'm aiming to release a public alpha version
 once
the core mechanics are in. At the rate this is going, that shouldn't be
 too
far off as long as I don't get hung up on anything subtly devious. Curse

 Hi all,

Has anyone tried this game out? It's at: http://www.magicduel.com, and
even though it says it's got artwork and graphics and things, it does
have a pretty big storyline, and I just wonder if these graphics have
alt tags. You guys can try and login to the guest account if you can
get things working. I know they need to fix the fact that us blind
users don't have accessible captchas. Or rather, captcha since there's
only one, but that's beside the point. See if anyone can get, with or
without sighted assistance, the supposed scroll you're supposed to
click on on some sort of table to get the game started. I atempted
contacting them at [EMAIL PROTECTED] since I thought this was the
main address, but guess not. This game has more game reviews than I've
seen in a while, and it has some pretty nifty music when the website
loads. Take a look around and see if any of you can contact the
developers. From what I gather, this game isn't number crunching.

 Hi all,

I've just found this online game in which you manage some sort of
firm. I've played in the beta for a little while, but since it kept
resetting I just waited till launch so it'd stop. But they really
don't explain what a Hooligan game is, I guess it's fighting with
football combined? Because I guess you run a business and watch
football matches at the same time, not sure on actually what it is.

Subject: [Audyssey] Help with if game

 Hi all,
I'm stuck with a puzzle on the game called Intruder, and I can't find a
walkthrough. Does anyone have a walkthrough or know the answer tto this
 one,
I can't get into the house. I've dialed the kids on the cell phone, and I
think the next thing is to find something in the swimming pool. I've
 managed
to undress and get into the pool, I can see something shiny in the pool,
 it
could be a key, but when I tell the game to dive, it dives but I don't
 know
how to get the object. I also don't know what I'm supposed to do with the
 air conditioning pit.
 This game's hard-)

A new fighting game for the ps3 and xbox360 from the creators of guilty
gear. This is a must buy for fighting fans and although a bit quirky,
definitely worth the buy. Better yet, the limitted edition is the same
price as the standard edition of the game, 60 bucks. Until the 28th, all
who buy it first get the limitted edition. The edition comes up with the
game of course, a two-disk soundtrack, and a bonus blue ray or DVD that
gives tutorials on gameplay, as well as detailed character strategies. I
hope everyone will give this a look, and hopefully buy it. I know I
certainly plan to get it.

Now I have a video from youtube, of course, and I hope everyone watches
this one and gets the game or at least likes it. This is certainly a
unique game, and deserves a lot of attention.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sF2q_sf7NA

I hope to get opinions on the game. Take care everyone.

Interesting. Does it accept the fact that you want one player, then ask

Hi all,
I've had some time on my hands tonight so I decided to put in some time on
Raceway. You know, that cool racing game that has been talked about for
years and years, and never seams to apppear? That's the one alright.

Anyway, while working on, tinkering with, the half completed demo I
thought how nice it would be if the game mirrored an actual Nascar season.
Like where you could actually select a real Nascar driver like Tony
Stewart, Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon, etc and play his season virtually. One
major advantage with is that I wouldn't have to make up a bunch of dummy
information. All of the tracks and cars could be created to realistic
specifications. Obviously by using real life drivers and sponsors here I
don't have to make up names, and could use drivers and sponsors true
Nascar fans would identify with. The disadvantage I see here is copyright
issues, and the game would be inflexable when it comes to customization
since by selecting a driver the game would default to the driver's car and
sponsor.

As the game currently stands you pick a generic name like Tony, Roger,
Bill, John, Jeff, whatever which is impersonal and avoids all copyright
issues. Sponsors are basically a bunch of made up names like Burger
Palace, USA Electronics, Computer World, and other made up names. Diddo
for the tracks. Bottom line in order to avoid copyrights the game is
rather generic, but it does give you the maximum flexability. This way you
can select a generic name, the type of car, and select your sponsor.

I guess the point of this message is do you, as gamers, want this game to
be as realistic as possible, or would you rather it to be somewhat generic
when it comes to drivers, make and mottles of cars, tracks, etc. Either
way the basic concept of the game will be the same, but I can make it
fairly detailed or I can flush out any and all copyrighted mnames or trade
marks. Which do you prefer?

Smile.

Hi,
Oh, I'd say Entombed has a long long ways to go before it sees a 1.0
stable release. Not surprising really seeing as it is a difficult genre of
game to program given the amount of programming and development involved.
The thing to keep in mind is that whoever said it would be ready by fall
of 2009 was only speculating at a release date, and apparently
underestimated the time involved in creating the game.

Cheers!

Because that's not how you equip or wield your items. I strongly suggest
reading the manual which can be found at wiki.blind-games.com. The
keystrokes in the game are intuitive once you learn them, but you need to
learn them first.

Hi,
Oh, I'd say Entombed has a long long ways to go before it sees a 1.0
stable release. Not surprising really seeing as it is a difficult genre
of

game to program given the amount of programming and development involved.
The thing to keep in mind is that whoever said it would be ready by fall
of 2009 was only speculating at a release date, and apparently
underestimated the time involved in creating the game.
Cheers!

Well, if by investments you mean buying stocks, I'm not sure if
that's even in the game yet at all. Extractors and drones are great
though, and you don't need to be logued in for long to maintain them at
all, just long enough to pick up your extractors.

I'm probably not going to get to play much today either, but I've
placed another extractor for an ore I'll need for a mission, and deployed
the drone I bought yesterday, so at least useful things will be
happening while i wait, - lol!

who'd have thought that something like this would keep me interested.
Last night I was playing and my aunt happened to glance in here and saw
the jump gate interface.

I may concider trying to have investments in the game.
I am not sure about buying comercial stores but thats way off, if I do
run out of fuel I can probably log out for a day and come back in.

no big loss.

commercial or industrial extractors take production skill to run, but
personal extractors (the sort sold in npc stores), will run just fine

Extractors, like mining drones are a great way of making money while

for getting ore, you have three principle options. You can buy
either a mining drone or ore extractor.

Extracting will cost you some Ip to get the survey points and it takes
a litle upkeep, but you can get some good resources this way, even
with a low level, such as special ores from planets like Sassion or
Sephira which cell at a prophit, and are also needed on npc
missions.

Mining drones are good too if you can afford them, though
obviously they only mine bog standard ore.
Passenger transport is a fantastic way of making money if you don't
mind expending quite a lot of fuel, while the cabin is initially
expensive, you earn the money back in no time.

Also, taking combat missions and selling the loot is good too. if you
aime for ships like Darts and barbs, and avoid any ship class that
isn't a pirate you should be okay, and you can always run away if
the enemy is too strong! (though this will no longer be necessary once
the threat rating is labled), you can make betwene 5 and 20 K for a
full hold of loot, even just selling it to jo.

Lastly, chatting really! helps, it's great for filling small resource
contracts for missions, (you could possibly find someone to sell you
the ore), also people are very helpful, nd even occasionally buy
things at great prices.

the other day, someone bought 50 units of Sassion

Is the game all left/right scrolling on one level? I did notice

actual progress through the levels all seemed streight left/right in

Hi folks,

Alongside the game creation toolkit, I've also been working on a
sidescroller called the Q9 action game. I intend to release this game
in about a week, and thought I'd post a little sneak preview for you
to enjoy. The game contains four worlds with three levels in each, a
few bonus rounds as well as a grand finale which is an intense boss
battle. All the enemies are dynamic so there's lots of replay value
there, and you also have four difficulty levels to choose from
ranging from easy to insane.

This recording demonstrates a few levels from the game, from the
simple to the more advanced ones.

The link is:

Feedback and spontaneous thoughts are more than welcome.

Thanks!

Kind regards,

Philip Bennefall

Hi Bryan,
That's a good idea. In fact I was saying something close to that to
Phil my last message. I could make the leather whip an unlockable or
special item which might hurt a vampire, but wouldn't kill one.

Bryan Peterson wrote:
Why not both? Perhaps you could set it up so that the vampire could
be harmed by the whip but not actually slain. So the player could
use the whip to get the vampire near to death, so to speak, then the
stake or whatever weapon could be a special weapon which alone had
the power to actually finish the vampire off. It might be kinda like
the battle with Gannon in the original Legend of Zelda. He could be
harmed with the sword but not slain. Once he turned red the only way
to finish him off was the silver arrow, otherwise he would heal. It
took my brother months to figure that out.

Now I get a notice of bandwidth reached. We either need to move the list

I personally rather would go with 5 per day as that would at least allow
us to stay off of yahoogroups.com. Further more it would make the

 Hi Rich

A mud client is a program such as teraterm or gmud used to connect to the
game server. Most work pretty good with JFW. I personally use Gmud32.
It's pretty easy to set up and once you get the hang of it easy to use.

For me, I'm not a particular fan of space invader type games. A game which
 I

favourite, is Showdown. Even though it's a free game, for me it's one of

 Hi,
I also go through different moods. Sometimes when I have time to plan
and think and am in to something like that I spend hours at STFC
plotting, planning, each move. Lonewolf is another game I take care in
playing. I will spend several minutes waiting for the right attack
position or moving to attack position and ambush ships.
Other times when I am not in to planning I will launch an arcade game
like Troopenum and just blast ships out of the sky. Dark Destroyer is
another fun one to play when thought is not desired for the game.
I sometimes go through moods where I want something like a board game.
Then I pull up Jim's monoply game and plot, scheme, and build my
financial empire. Quite fun doing that.

 Hi Liam,
I agree with you that audio gaming has just really started. We are
dealing with a largely inexperienced list of game developers who are
learning as we go. Very few of us have gone to college, and walked away
with a degree in Computer Science, and are self-taught.
Even those like myself who have gone to college for CS still couldn't
write a game fresh out of school. I have been practicing for two years
to take what I was taught and put it in to real working programs. That
 is where experience comes in.
Who knows what LWorks, GMA Games, USA Games, or someone else will be
making 5 or 10 years from now.

 Liam Erven wrote:
I can respect his opinion, but I disagree fully. I almost consider it a
slap in the face in some respects.
I do not think that the audio games industry has seen it's peak. I
 think
developers are only getting started. Audio games have been around for
 only
about five years. Rome was not built in a day, and neither are games for
 the blind.

 USA Games News

 5/2/2006
 Introduction

 Hello gamers,
This week I have some good news and some bad news. I have allot to cover
about Final Conflict, Jedi Strike, and Montezuma's Revenge so I'll get
 started.

 Final Conflict

 Hello gamers,
As I sit here writing up this update I feel I must share a little bad
news before getting in to some good news about STFC. So I will cut to
the chase and get in to what is going wrong before I discuss what is
 going right.
As many of you know I am expected to release a patch for STFC soon.
Unfortunately, that may not happen so soon after all. There are a number
of build and runtime errors that must be corrected before the patch can
 be released. So what happened?
Well, as I mentioned a week or so ago I am trying to update the STFC
engine by including new versions of the same classes etc from
Montezuma's Revenge. Unfortunately, I made a number of major changes
that completely broke compatibility with the older STFC engine. Which
means to correct it I have to go in by hand and fix every build error,
and update the code to work with the new classes. It is a major job!
Do to the massive breakage in the code I haven't even had a chance to
fix as many of the miner bugs as I would like. If you guys wouldn't mind
waiting a little longer I'm considering just keeping the beta patch in
house until I really shake it down for bug fixes. Then, release a
completely new installer file with all the changes and updates.
As promised here is the good news. I think we are coming very very close
to a 1.0 release. After these bugs are worked out, and when I can
acquire the licensing software I wish to use I plan to release STFC 1.0.
My hope is to have it out late summer 2006. For sure it will be out
 before Christmas.

 Jedi Strike

Many of you have emailed the USA Games sales department about the status
of this title. So I felt it was time to renew discussion on this topic.
After all the project has seamed to gotten pushed aside since the
acquiring of Raceway and Montezuma's Revenge. So here is our public
 response.
For those who worry we have dropped this title we have not. In fact,
just this week I did some miner updates to the SWJS engine. I added the
new audio class library used by the Monty and STFC engines, updated the
input class library used by Monty, and updated the world class which
gives me greater control over the creation of the game world. Such as
placing dropped items which the Jedi/player can find and collect.
One reason I took the trailer down for Jedi Strike is I have been
totally dissatisfied with the possible Revenge of the Sith story line
for the game. I have completely rewritten the story line for the game,
and I really like the new story line better. Perhaps you can write in
and let me know what you think of this story line.
Long long ago in a galaxy far far away.
The great galactic emperor ruled by Emperor Palpatine has been defeated
by the heroic Rebellion. Now, many years later the New Republic has
reclaimed 75% of the galaxy, and Jedi Master Luke Skywalker has
established a new Jedi academy on Yavin IV. You have been sent to Yavin
to train with Jedi Master Skywalker, but while in training a new and
sinister dark force has arisen which will shadder the galactic peace.
Deep in the outer systems a new Lord of the Sith has secretly began a
new Sith academy to train dark Jedi. He has allied himself with Admiral
Dolla and other high ranking members of the old Imperial command.
Together with the remnants of the old Empire he has plans to wage war
against the New Republic and to wipe out the Jedi Knights forever.
As part of your training you will be sent on missions to gather
intelligence, foil an assassination attempt on Chief of State Leia
Arganna Solo, rescue a missing Jedi strike team, chase down and defeat
dark Jedi, locate the new Sith academy, and much much more.
Some of you may wonder were my inspiration for this game came from, and
I must confess much of it comes from the games that came out by Lucas
Arts in the late 90's such as Dark Forces and Jedi Knight. Although, my
story is a little different don't be surprised if you end up seeing a
few characters and places from those games.
Anyway, the final point here is I am still working on Jedi Strike, but
it is going to be totally new. I want it to be more like a Lucas Arts
title and not something just tossed together. However, Monty and STFC
are higher on the priority list at the moment.

 Montezuma's Revenge

Well, what I have to report here is hardly new news. As I have stated
some time ago work is going quite well. I have temple 1 just about done.
I am debugging the engine, and

Except joy stick and steering wheel support, what is there in race way
that there isn't in top speed? I understand race way is a retail game.
Thomas I remember you said in race way you have joy stick support which
you don't have in top speed. Personally I don't prefer a joy stick. The
keyboard is much easier to work with in games for me. I have played tv
games with the assistance of sighted friends and with that experience I
can say that a joy stick won't work for me. If joy stick support is the
only difference in race way, then it means I can't spend money on it
if it's the same as top speed, right?

I don't know how many of you have been to VIP Conduit, but it is a voice
chat site for the blind, and Barry Jennings has recently programmed a
 voice
communicator from scratch that sounds better than any chat software I
 have
 heard.
It has all kinds of cool features, one of which is the ability to send
text chat messages to individual users as you voice chat.
Anyhow, I thought you guys might want to check it out and consider VIP
Conduit as a meeting place for the gamers chat events.
  The website is www.vipConduit.com

Hi. I'm damien sadler, and have started up a new company as some may or
 may
 not know.

It is called x-sight interactive, and we have already made a few games.
One of which is acefire which you can download at:
 http://x-sightinteractive.bpcprograms.com.
Another, the most recent, is the bop it extreme game.
It was jim kitchen who gave me the idea by producing the original bop it
game as software; so the bop it extreme needs some beta testers.

If anybody's interested, let me know.
I also need help finding somewhere better than what we have at the moment
 to
host our games, since the site isn't even mine.

 Regards,

 Damien

Hi gamers:

This is the latest from LWorks.

Our new game Judgement day is coasting along quite well. I hope to
release an official trailer with in the next week or two. Judgement
day is like space invaders with a twist. You can beat the game, but
beating it once isn't quite enough. As you play you will unlock
trophys for completing different tasks: having a high enough
shooting accuracy, completing the game with out any enemies causing
damage, beating the game with cheat codes, and more. these trophys
then add up to unlock bonus games, hidden game modes, and even
hidden audio. And with all of our games, you will be able to post
your scores to our realtime scoreboards.

The following description comes directly from our site.
it is the year 2015, and the world is at war. This war has been the
most catastrophic to humanity. Two powers are fighting for control.
The allies and a
group of nations calling themselves The Supreme Evil. Little is
known about this group and it's motives, but one thing is clear.
This group has advanced
weaponry. Over several months, the Allies have been slowly destroyed
by strange and lethal weaponry. The commander of the Supreme Evil
known as Supreme
Commander Ather has quickly dispatched several countrys in the span
of a few months. In one last effort to retain any hope, the allies
have gathered all
their forces in one area. A defensive station was built, and plans
were made to finally lay the Supreme evil to rest. However, this
task may prove to be
harder than one thinks. and this is where you come in. Your job is
to fend off the group of The Supreme Evil's forces, as well as deal
With supreme Commander
Ather.

You command the only allied defensive post left. Your job is to fend
off the enemies. Compared to the Supreme evil, your weapons are
primative. However,
they can be effective. You are given a machine gun with unlimitted
shells, a supply of rockets, and a small supply of sky clearing
nukes. Your crew will
do there best to keep the base undamaged. If there's no damage, they
may even find time to replentish your nukes and rockets if you're
running
low.

the target release month is July, but I'm not certain on an exact
date. Two weeks before the game is released, LWorks will offer a
chance for people to preorder and lock in a copy of the game at a
lower price. The full product will retail for US $25.00.

LWorks also offers several other fun games which you can read about at
www.l-works.net
including the first ever accessible side Scroller.

 Hi, Kim.
I think your suggestion is a very good one. As a dev of such games let
me expand upon some of your ideas. In the PCS Games such as packman when
you need to get an item which normally has no sound like an apple,
charries, etc Phil simply uses a voice file to repete the word cherrries
over and over so you can find it. The same could apply to the Mario
idea. As you get closer to the mushroom you need you hear mushroom
mushroom mushroom, over and over and it gets louder or softer as you
 get close or move away.
As for the flag poll no problem. How about a flapping flag or something
so you can hear it as you get near it. ]
I once was sighted, and played Mario when I could see, and I would enjoy
seing a audio rendition of the game. I don't have the time now to do so,
but I certainly think an audio version can be made. Some things might
have to be adapted for a blind gamer, but as a whole it can be done.

 Kim Etheridge wrote:
Hi. I know this may not make any sense, but I've been thinking about
something lately. I know it's virtually impossible to produce a Mario
game for the blind, although I wish it could be done. However, I've been
thinking. What if someone created a game like Mario? Of course they
couldn't name it Mario because Nintendo owns that name. However, the
sound scheme would have to be different. It could be like Sod. It could
have an object locater. You hit a certain keystroke and it'll say,
Mushroom in three feet., or something to that effect. Plus, when you
get to the end of the level, it'll tell you how far away the flagpole is
and you hit a keystroke to jump over it. Plus, the object locater can
help you avoid. This is as far as I got on the idea, but I think you can
 grasp the basic concept.

There seems to be nothing to do in the school but investigate empty

Does anyone know how to advance your character in this game?

 Hello,
I've downloaded Anacreon v2.1d windows version and am trying to give it a
go, the quickstart guide intrigued me as did the site itself, easily
navigatable without any adds or javascript. The menus and dialog boxes
 talk
great, but when i actually go to new game and try to pick a game i don't
 get
any feedback with jfw. How are others using this game as i'd like to do
 so?
 Thanks.
 Dave.

 Hey all,
I have started playing a new mud. I enjoy, at least so far. smiles I
seem to have a hard time, finding a mud that really has what I desire.
But, anyway, it is materia magica. and, I was just curious if anyone
else has a character on there. And what they think of it. smiles

This is my first character and I am just learning the ropes. Though,
one person in there has been so very helpful and is helping me learn
 things that I don't know.

But, I am qualnaday the sidhe if anyone does go on there. smiles

Hi, I'm having trouble finding the files for accessible quake.
I went to the agrip website, and they only have the files for audio quake
 on there download page.
Where do I need to go to download these files?

 Hi everyone,
I've made a very bad mistake with coaching in Battrick. You don't have 5
 of
each type of coach, I did some experimenting and see that you have 10
training sessions. Of those sessions, you hire coaches from batting,
bowling, fielding, keeping, and fitness to fill these. Example,
3 batting, 3 bowling, 1 fitness, 1 keeping, and two fielding would make
 your
10 sessions. Your sessions would then be 3 bowling, 3 batting, etc. If you
hire more than ten, those coaches just waste money (I wasted so much
resource!) So, again, if I were to hire 10 fitness coaches and no others,
all my 10 sessions would be just fitness, or 9 fitness and 1 bowling, the
 same.
The new Battrick season starts on September 10, and it's going to now also
 have three day matches!
Simon, I've found your team and have challenged you, so I think you have
 to
go to your pavilion page to accept so we'll have a friendly.
Kevin, I haven't found your team yet, is it more than one word and is it
called It's not cricket? I'll look, but in case I don't find it by search,
in what region of England are you? If you want to have a friendly against
me, my team is called Uninspiring Batting, and it's in the Gauteng region
 of
 South Africa.

 Hey Ari and all
I've also recently discovered the Battrick thingie.
 At present I hired 5 batting, 5 bowling, 1 fitness, 1 fielding, (can't
 remember the rest), coaches.
I don't think it's too effective, but what the heck.
My team is Western Transvaal, also from South Africa, if anyone's
 interested.

 Best regards
 Quinten Pendle

 Hi Ian,
The season's just finished, so no new fixtures are on. If you like, you
 can
give me the name of your team and we can have a friendly. This is good as
 it
boosts player's fitness, and since I think the gate money is split halves,
you can also get some finances.
