Agree. All these guys on here are focusing on blind this and that, but when I 
say accessible I mean accessible to everyone regardless of stupid limitations. 
If they're not going to get rid of the limitations at least make the tools 
available to deal with them, no matter whether it's in terms of games or 
getting around places or whatever other situation it might be.

The only truly accessible games I've seen for android not including the blind 
specific ones are dice world and trivia crack. As far as I know (correct if I'm 
wrong) the map system on lords and knights and celtic tribes is nowhere near as 
accessible if it all on android as it is on iOS.

I think they should make the stuff accessible for everyone to play by default 
(although yes it will probably mean the developers doing their research and 
asking more questions), so people can play the games regardless of their 
perceived disability etc. Yes it means a few more lines of code but so what. 
That way there would be no need for a separation between say blind accenssible 
games and a game that random person can just pick up off the shelf and put in 
their computer or whatever they're playing the game on and play it.

If you want something terminal based, you can use tintin++, but if you want 
something from the app store, the only one I’ve heard of is Mudder.  There are 
some soundpacks for tintin++, but the only mud I really play is alter aeon, so 
I know there are 2 soundpacks for that one.  Unfortunately I can’t remember the 
links, but I’ll find them if you like.
Mudder is a paid app, but sadly I can’t remember if it has any sounds.

In terms of the physical boards, I have a peg type one, with the points on the 
black pieces. Mine is pretty big so keep it set up, but I have heard there are 
travel sets for the blind as well.  I’ve never been any good at the computer 
version fo chess games, since I’m used to looking at the board to find where 
the pieces are.  Blind chess sets can be rather interesting to try and play 
with sighted people, because sometimes the pieces don’t look anything like a 
standard set.  I did have someone try and mark up a normal set once, but it 
didn’t work too well, since it wasn’t easy to distinguish between the black and 
white squares and the bumpons kept falling off the appropriate pieces.

If you are a cleric, you can also get a tonne of xp by turning undead.

 really helps (not only xp gaining, but he added muscle and or magic

Although I prefer to play cleric mage, I tend to use necro as a 3rd class, so I 
keep a load of spells maintained as well as maybe take a clay man or bone 
guardian and maybe a skeleton. If I'm going nto a higher level area, I normally 
run pretty slow, but cast hand spells on both myself and the clay man. I 
sometimes use wood woads, but they get hit hard by fire spells, so they don't 
last long at times. Mind you, my woad has 314 hp if I remember right. For areas 
like the nurgling swamp, you would want to use slow poison and protection from 
evil if you're good aligned. oviously if you're nutral or evil aligned it won't 
matter too much.

Just type gamble slot amount from wherever you are in the game. Make sure you 
have the amount of gold you want to gamble in hand rather than in the bank 
though.

Hellow,
Explorer points are just giving you gold and a bit of xp when you explore
new areas, but you can spend combat points on spells or skills you already
know, to improve them rather than using practices.  I'm not sure what
adventure points are for though.

the Alter Aeon site.

I installed the full mush z pack and then installed the patch over the
contents of the folder in the my documents folder.  I hit enter on the alter
aeon shortcut on the desktop and windows wanted me to find the appropriate
program to open the file.

I then hit enter on the mush z shortcut on the desktop after installation
and it gave me an error about drop box.

Any help to get this stuff resolved would be greatly appreciated.

If you want a free client, mush z, although it's being annoying lately.  I
reinstalled it a few days ago because I'd been having a problem with logging
my potion recipes.  Anyway, as well as that it now brings up a dialog every
single time I click on the desktop icon saying some rubbish about dropbox
and not being a valid path, although clicking on ok makes it go away and you
can use it as normal.  Still annoying though.
If you wanted to pay like #40 I think it is though, you could use VIP mud.
I haven't used that for a while and you only get 2 keys with that client.

just as a couple of  miner  corrections about vip mud licensing. the only
stuff that is restricted is msp support and some script debugging
functions. So, it's quite possible to use for free on the majority of muds
with no loss at all (sinse msp, or mud sound protocol is actually only used
by a very few muds).

then, the cost is 30 usd, not 40 usd. I will admit I bought the program, but
more out of a desire to support gma games than because I especially needed
the features of the paid version.

finally, as regards  license keys,   I don't think there is actually any 
restriction on number of license keys, indeed I've registered vip mud on
three different machines myself, just as long as you use the in game wizard
to request replacement keys from gma games sinse unfortunately they are
computer specific.

So, hopefully this should set the facts generally straight.

As I said, for alteraeon I'd recommend the mushZ pack by oriol gomez for the
massive amount of extra sounds and support, however for everything else I've
found Vip mud more than adequate and indeed very user friendly, in fact it
was through Vipmud that I started playing muds myself.

When we open areas, they're permanent.  All of the areas we released for
this event are now a permanent part of the game.

Sometimes we have events where there's a temporary zone that's destroyed
after the event is over, but that's pretty rare, and we usually state that
explicitly if we need to.

[Audyssey] Potions And Alter Aeon

Hellow,

When using mush z and brewing potions on alter aeon, I normally like to log
the potion recipes, which has been fine until the last couple of weeks.
However, over the last 1 or 2 weeks, all I get is successful recipe of 0
ingredients and tthus no log to speak of.  Me and several others have been
having this problem and I've checked for update and using the latest version
of mush z.

 

Is this a mush z thing, or more an Alter Aeon thing?

Unless the brewing strings changed, it's going to likely be mushz. If
strings did change you should notice a change in the way the sound plays (if
it plays at all)

There are other clients as well, but the only other one I've ever used, VIP
mud, costs $20 or $30 US. I use mush z though now.

If you're interested in muds, you might want to take a look at Alter Aeon.
Oriol has put together a really good soundpack for windows pcs
- you can find the main page at: http://www.mush-z.com.  We've worked really
hard to make the game accessible.

There's mud clients for all platforms, but I'm not sure which ones work best
for macs.  I also don't know if there are any mac clients with soundpacks.

Agree with Michael.  I hated the iPhone 3gs at first, so went back to a
nokia.  However, I got my iPhone 4 in June last year, and wouldn't swap it
for a nokia any day.
Anyway, in terms of accessibility, Apple wins the race. Just a shame the
android phones etc can't have the same feature for free like Apple, but no,
if you want to get an android phone to be accessible, you have to get
someone to download the mobile access onto the phone, then pay £59 or so for
it to work fully (that Is to say, not a demo).
Ok, rant over, or else we might as well be posting on the blind phones list.

This kind of defeats the point of a touch screen. The point of a touch 
screen is to not need buttons, and apple's done, in my opinion, an amazing 
job of making it accessible. If you wanted them to have buttons just because

blind people can't, if only just slightly, use a touch screen as well as the

sighted, then they'd have to make a totally separate model just for blind 
people, which would get us back to square one with separate devices.

If the item is cursed, you will need to use remove curse, which is a level 9 
cleric spell. If you need any help, feel free to send Silvershadow a tell. I'm

I would say could a pitch be used rather than stereo sound? Saying that
though, this would be a problem if the game involved the player moving
forwards and backwards as well of left and right. Just a probably pointless

Hi Jim,

That seems to be a fairly common problem with VI gamers in general.  A
lot of the VI people I've met also have some hearing related
disabilities as well as visual ones. I myself have some trouble with
hearing, but it doesn't effect me playing games most of the time.
 However, many cases though it is serious enough to require a hearing
aid or similar. So its definitely something to think about when
creating accessible games.

monster on the floor (or just about), but can't! get into the mausoliam! 

This is really irritating me sinse it's the last quest I have to do on the
island, and I'd really rather not move on until it's finished, so if anyone
can please!¬ give me some advice I'll be very pleased.

Ok, have almost finished off very first version of a sort of experiment
using the python programming language, where I'm putting together a sort of
RPG game engine - very simple at this stage, were it will let you quite
easily create your own world/environment, add bad guys to fight, etc., but
one question to finish off this version.

Basically, what would be a simple, but relatively meaningful way to say that
you'd completed/won the game?

As in should I make it something like placing a collected item in a certain
location, or should it just be that you solved some form of puzzle and
therefore made it to a specific location, or should I keep it open to
both/either-or?

Will again just say that this is at this stage a very simple thing which I
might build onto, but I primarily used it to get comfortable in what is a
new programming language to me - and the one other joke is have now found
out that python is literally/officially named after monty python...smile

The only voice I can hear clear enough when playing audio games is the
british English Daniel one. Mind you, In terms of playing Alter Aeon, I find

I went on PCSGames website and, seeing the link for Materiamagica, I decided
to try it.  I have the mush-z client, so I pointed it to the site and it

and I need to know what to do to configure Magica to read automatically.
Also, how do I turn the volume of sounds down in Alteraeon?  It's great

Mike,

Actually, only about half of the experience on the game comes directly
from killing monsters, and there's a lot of other ways to get
experience.  For example, using your spells and skills, even outside
of combat, is worth a lot.  A lot of healers follow groups around to
heal others, but never actually participate in combat.

Here are some other things you can do to get experience that don't
involve killing:

- thieves can shoplift, steal, bribe, and brew poisons
- necromancers can do a lot of interesting things with demon summoning
and raising undead
- clerics can heal, resurrect, and turn undead
- mages can brew and bottle potions for others
- quests
- achievements
- exploreration points
- skill/spell improvement

That said, there isn't much of a crafting skillset right now.  The
closest we have to true crafting are probably the brew and various
necromancer skills for raising undead.  There are a number of quests
that have crafting of specific items to complete the quest, but these
are usually high level and I'd say they don't count.

Know what you mean. I used to install games on the college computers when I
was still there, even though I'd already heard that playing games was
forbidden in the library. No one took them off though, which was kind of
cool.

Interesting. That could always be. Perhaps some rehab counselors have
some opinion that their clients should not put games on their
machines. That's an attitude that is rediculous since they aren't
hurting anything by being there, and as has been stated that doesn't
stop the client from scanning books, using Office, or anything else
that needs to get done for college, work, etc.

Of course, if my counselor had told me something like that I'd have
gone and done it anyway. My opinion use to be rules are made for
breaking, and I broke a lot of them growing up. Lol!

What's this little notepad icon do? Oh, I can write text here. What's
this little picture of a music cd do? Oh, I can play music cds with
this program. What's this picture of a deck of cards do? Oh, its a
game of Solitaire. That's how they find things out, and its limited as
it doesn't really tell them how their computer works or gives them any
real experience using all its  functionality.

Not sure. I'm using VIP mud here. Although I have got mush installed
somewhere in the depths of my pc's hard drive.
To be honest, its quicker to just tab and go up and down using the pc cursor
than it is to kep routing jaws to pc if you miss something or want to find
something quickly.

There is a radio show over here called In Touch that's on every Tuesday. Mind 
you, they sometimes go on about and try and promote the RNIB stuff as well at 
times.

As people might know, I've been doing a lot of work on the
audiogames.net database and something rather odd struck me.
I'm finally adding in descriptions for the azabat games (not the least
because the developer did send me the demo cd about a year ago and I
stil haven't updated them).
Azabat is the only developer of audiogames sold through the rnib.
This is of course because the Azabat's aim, of providing nice old blind
people with easy games to play at exaubitant prices (can you tell I'm not
impressed!), goes along very much with the rnib, an organization who
quite literally don't notice visually impared people under the age of 60 or
so exist, mostly because younger people are less likely to give them
donations in their will,  I'm serious! at a so called information day 
the
rnib spent about two hours just talking about will donations to them, ---
and most of the rest of the time saying how great they were providing
dayly living skills services
the amount of times myself, or another member of my family (most
recently my dad in a survay), has given them what for over this,
whether it's about what books they record (sinse their main producer of
accessible books in this country given that the government does bugger
all), or about what services they provide, they really! don't like the idea
that people younger than about 60, or who have interest outside knitting
and braille crosswords exist (I'm serious, there are several amagazines
devoted to knitting patterns alone, but nothing whatsoever on roleplay).
And if you tell them this they ignore you (the survey lady slammed the
phone down on my dad after he'd said this).
Anyway, getting the wranting train under control,my point is azabat,
dispite producing games which are no better (and in many case not as
good), as others around even in the same catagory like the recently
released pontes backgammon (lacking graphics but having online play),
and all of the spoonbill and blind adrenaline type stuff, yet have a huge
record in this country simply! because they have had publicity through
the Royally nasty inhibition of the blind, aka the rnib (oooh, I made a
funny!).
This doesn't seem correct, but I am now wondering what can be done
about it.
The business of sending myself to site village, the uk tech show didn't
really advance much unfortunately mostly due to booking costs and
such, but possibly a more reasonable organization such as Guide dogs
(who do a lot more than train dogs,  I've been skeeing, touring egypt,
cycling and goodness knows what with their holiday crew in the past)
would be open to discussion, especially sinse they do deal with blind
people who aren't the sterriotypical poor old useless individuals the rnib
think they are.
I've already introduced a friend of mine who does voluntry tech support
at a charity for helping disabled computer users in her local area to
audiogames.net and pcs games so she can show people some of the
fun things their computers will do.

Actually Dennis, I'm afraid I couldn't get the soundpack from your site to 
work with vip mud at all, and resorted to mushclient to play alterean 
precisely because! of the soundpack.

This is a litle irritating sinse vip mud is an easier client for mud newbies

to use, but stil, when I loaded up the game in vipmud with the sounds in the

folder, and attempted the set sound command nothing happened and I stil got 
no sound at all.

Any advice would be very much appreciated on this one, especially because 
I'd like to try creating a new character with a better combo of abilities 
for solo adventuring and exploring than my last one,  maybe a warrior 
priest instead of a priest warrior, or maybe a warrior necro.

Well that's what most of the free client developers do. If not every few
months, then at least more frequently than they are doing so. This! Is! A!
Mud! Client! Here! It! Needs! Regularly! And! Constantly! Updating! Get it?
Muds don't only change every few years, they change and are being updated
all the time, and so should the clients to use with them.

updates, that does not mean the client has to update as well. All the 
features of the mud itself come from the server, not from the client.

still find VIP mud much easier to use and script than mush client for

[Audyssey] Quentin C's Games

I updated Quentin C's audio games thing on my computer yesterday, but tried
to open it again today and its still asking if I'd like to update. When I
say no to it, I get thrown off the server. Does anyone else have this
problem?

I actually have a different problem where I installed the update, but he 
whole thing was in french, and since I have lite knowledge of that 
tongue, I was able to somewhat get around it. However, I want the client 
to be in English, and whenever I exit and log-in, I have to manually set 
it to English, for the fact that the language reverts to French fare I 
exit. Has anyone had a similar issue?

The one that always amuses me is sod for shades of doom, sinse in england 
(particularly in the midlands), sod is a mild swearword and something my mum

says if she spills her coffee ;d.

That's personally why I always use shades instead if I want to talk about 
the game more briefly.

Mota is also amusing because with the way I have orphius set and the way I 
naturally speak it comes out exactly like motor,  so if I didn't know

But then the game stopped.
I figured my Windows vista was getting in the way, so the next time I 
arrowed  to the Super Egg Hunt short cut I hit the context key and arrowed 
down to run it as administrator.
This time the update worked correctly.
I suggest you add that detail to the updater.

One thing I also wish there was, is the ability to use the mouse, like a
graphical interface of some description, so those with enough sight to do so
can use it successfully. I use jaws, but know some visually impaired people
who don't have jaws running all the time, but use magnification or something
instead.

Good, addictive as always.
The booster really was cool but I was never able to maintain it for 
long and the chicken got me a bunch of times my score was 78 but 
still a good time killer.

I find the UK eloquence very hard to understand compared to the US one. Mind

You don't really. You just need to go into the settings manager or the
configuration manager for that particular game and set jaws to go onto sleep
mode when said game or application is open.

Because JAWS has a very nasty habbit of breaking Top Speed's input 
management system.  That's why we now put it asleep.

Agreed. Back when I was in college when I took html the instructer had
us use Windows Notepad to code our html pages by hand. The main reason
for using a simple text editor like Notepad instead of something like
Dream Weaver was so that we could get a firm understanding of html.
Plus without having to depend on an automated tool like Dream Weaver
we actually had to think about how we wanted to design our pages,
think about the types of html tags we wanted to use, and that allowed
us to be more creative and customize our pages. Automated wizards like
Dream Weaver are nice and handy, but in the long run all you are
really doing is borrowing someone elses automated code without any
origionality or personalization.

When it comes to BGT the same principle applys. A script wizard is
nothing more than a bunch of automated code that might help speed up
development, but you aren't actually learning how to do it yourself.
You are depending on that wizard to do the majority of the work for
you. If a person really wants automated code the best thing might be
to write up some commonly used code and store it in a text file for
later use. If they want to use it simply copy it into their new game,
modify it, and are on their way. I do this myself a lot of the time,
but I wrote all of my own templates so they are customized for my own
personal use from the start rather than having some automatic wizard
just generate some totally generic piece of code that may or may not
do what I want it to do.

[Audyssey] Off Topic - RE: Iphone's Used on List

Depends on the version of the iPhone. If you're using the 3gs, you can
either double tap the letter or put a finger on the letter and tap somewhere
else on the screen, but if you're using the 4, there is a touch typing
setting that you can turn on where you can just find the letter and let go
of it.
By the way, this is not the iPhone list, but there are 2 of them. 
Viphone+subscribe @googlegroups.com and can't remember the other one.

saw the email chain of people disappointed with papa sangre being
