[Audyssey] Talking dosbox

2015-05-12 Thread Piotr Machacz
Hi,
This is something that’s been around for a week or so now, but I just now
figured might as well post it to audyssey.
I have managed to get dosbox to play nice with dos screen readers and have
packaged it up wit a bunch of games for people to try. Most of the information
and download links are in the audiogames.net http://audiogames.net/ thread,
so instead of repeating myself just go here for everything you’ll need.

If you have questions, first check the readme, then the thread linked to above
and if you’re still confused, go ahead and ask here and I’ll try to help.
Have fun!

[Audyssey] Steam accessibility petition

2015-04-06 Thread Piotr Machacz
Fellow gamer Erion/robjoy has started a petition urging Valve to make steam
more accessible, as there’s more and more developers seem to be interested in
making their games more usable. However, many people refuse to try said games
because of Steam’s half broken usability. So, sign this petition, even if you
only play audio games, and share it with your friends.

[Audyssey] Can't access time of conflict multiplayer

2015-03-13 Thread Piotr Machacz
I've been getting back into this game, and so has a friend of mine with
the trial. I thought it could be a nice easter gift for him so we could
go online and play each other, but before I make the purchase I tried to
see if the multiplayer feature still works... And, well, it doesn't seem
to. I'm not seeing the multiplayer option in the main menu and pressing
semicolon, no matter if from the main menu, the game both while paused
or unpaused, or accessing the multiplayer menu via the list of hotkeys
doesn't do anything, no options come up. I did buy and register the
game, and when I last played it, wich was last year or there abouts I
seem to remember that I could access that option back then.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Re: [Audyssey] xbox accessibility?

2015-03-12 Thread Piotr Machacz
The dashboard can be memorised. If you get a Kinect with the xbox, then
you can also use voice commands to navigate the interface and launch
games, and the success and/or failure of what you asked is indicated
with audio queues. The newer Kinect games like Kinect sports season 2
also let you use voice commands in the game's menus. Downloading digital
games is accessible because you can do it from the xbox live website.
The cconsole is smart enough to start downloading new purchases and when
they're finished you get a sound. You can also use the smart glass app
on iOS, android or Windows 8 to control the console and launch games.
Now, for some speculation. The Xbox one is very likely to receive
Windows 10, and it will support running new universal apps, so it's
very likely it may receive a narrator feature, especially considering
that because Microsoft is pushing it as a media consumption device it
might fall under the FCC accessibility regulations.

Re: [Audyssey] why can't I create an account on rise of chaos?

2014-11-26 Thread Piotr Machacz
Considering the braillenote's browser is essencially internet explorer
6, which is additionally processed even more by Keysoft, I wouldn't be
surprised if, like Dark said, you're missing form fields or that the
site has some javascript which isn't executing because keyweb is trying
to simplifi the page too much. The pac mate had similar problems which,
back when I had one, made the web browser mostly useless apart from
really simple tasks like looking at the ag.net forum and even that took
30 seconds to load on wifi.

Hi all,
I am using a braillenote and I want to play rise of chaos. I realize
that the braillenota is really bad at playing web games but the site
looked pretty accessible. The buttons worked however, when I tried
creating an account, it didn't confirm it. I typed in the required
information and clicked the create button but when it loaded, the
checkbox the said this is my only account was unchecked and the combo
for my civilization was back to chose even though I put it on chinese.
The other fields were what I had typed. What is going on? I don't see
any way of contacting the admins.

Thanks, Cara. I do that to some extent. I'm really curious about how
to shuffle them. They don't make any noises or indications that
anything has been done. Also, each card has a different value for
changing it, so it can't just be a one-off shuffle. I'm confused.

Re: [Audyssey] mac versus windows sales plus iOS question

2013-12-17 Thread Piotr Machacz
Hi,
As far as virtualising on OS X, I keep an XP VM around for things like games. I
gave it 2 gigs of ram and, If I remember right, 2 cores. It does absolutely
nothing to OS X if it’s running. But to really compare performance, OS X on
this particular macbook (2.7GHZ I7, 16GB ram, SSD), usually uses around 2-3%
CPU when I have my usual apps open like email, RSS, Twitter, Messenger, a
safari tab or 2. Battery life, 7 hours, or there a bouts. if I boot into
windows on bootcamp, it heats up very quickly, uses around 5-10% CPU idle, and
battery drops to about 3 hours.
Since we’re on the topic of Mac vs windows apps and all that good stuff, I have
to say that a lot of the time, Windows has better apps for cheeper. Case and
point, there is an app called arid. It’s just a youtube downloader. You paste a
link, select either mp4 video or audio only MP3, and convert. All this for an
incredibly low price of $20. On Windows, you have something like the free
youtube to MP3 converter, which also converts to other audio formats, and can
also process entire channels or playlists, a feature that I still haven’t found
in any mac video downloader. Another slightly annoying problem is Apple’s no
trial policy in the mac app store, where apps are usually $5-$10 and up, and
thanks to the not quite accessible UI frameworks like QT, you’re never sure if
something is going to read or not. Not saying it’s always the case (look at
downcast or iWork which are cheeper than anything on Windows and work either as
well or better), but more often than not I’ll admit to looking for a cracked
version for an app, testing its accessibility, and then buying it, or not,
depending on how that went.

compared to Windows machines a Mac user usually gets better
performance out of it because Apple doesn't waste the power and memory
the way a certain other software company does. As someone recently
 said, Apple doesn't make junk.

 Cheers!

On vertual machines windows probably is not the best to run a vm on a
thing I discovered a while ago.
A mac or linux is suggested.
So as far as windows goes there may be some limits never really gone
 over them though.

[Audyssey] VIP games zone making android games

This one really swept under the radar, for some eason. A friend of mine found

As the subject says, VIP games zone is making games for android. They have 2 so
far. One is a battleship game which, for some reason, can be only played on a
tablet (you need a 7 inch screen), and a tennis game which is pretty much a
port of crazy tennis. Both are free and have a top 10 feature just like the

Subject: [Audyssey] PCS News, an update to the Sarah game

 Hi Folks,
In honor of Harry Potter's birthday, I'm giving you a sneak preview of
what the full update to Sarah and the castle of witchcraft and wizardry
 will contain.
 Two new potions.
I am adding a Luck potion and Love potion that you need to brew to the
Polyjuice potion that is in the current game.
I have revised and relocated the potion ingredients to make them easier
 to
find and closer to their locations in the HP books.
 Destination menu.
After you have found and read the map, you will be able to apparate, or
teleport to a list of specific locations on each floor.
This seems more logical than to just be able to apparate only to the
 broom
 cupboard.
 New Joke shop items.
Sarah will be able to find and use several new items from the Joke shop
that are sprinkled throughout the castle.
The snackboxes will be especially helpful in stopping the caretaker from
 catching you.
 New spells.
I want to keep some things as a surprise so there will be new spells
 added
but I will let you find out what ones, how and when you will get them.
 New creatures.
I am adding some new challenges to the game, especially a rat that is
 sometimes not a rat.
 New Locations.
I am adding a maze right outside the Quidditch pitch and next to an
 expanded Forbidden Forest.
If you find your way to the center of the maze you will get another
surprise as to what is there.
There are lots of creatures lurking in the forest and I am adding more
 of
 them to the game.
 New rooms.
I am adding dorm rooms to all the houses, and will be a good place to
 find
 some of the joke items.

Most of these changes have already been programmed but there are some
 critical things yet to do.
I hope to get Sarah to record a list of new words but can not guarantee
that she will have the time right now.

I hope to be finished with my part of the development in the next few
weeks so there will be a good chance thee update will be available for
 download within August 2009.

what wold be cool is a sci fi rpg that had text to display info and
sound and you would use the keyboard to do things. like arrows to go
north east etc. I don't want a web based game, I just had enough of
em.
also the text could be communicated to the screen reader directly
instead of sapi that would fix a lot of problems imho. it could do it
like lw, jaws and wineyes, sapi and a text display for hose who don't
have jaws or wineyes and don't want to use sapi. I could help with
sounds. I was designing a lot of sci fi sounds recently like a busy
background of a ships or stations control room.

 Hi Aaron,
Well, assuming I created a simple text interface, similar to the Infocom
games, there wouldn't be any software dependancies to speak of. However,
seeing as the Braille Plus is a type of note taker device any game
written for it would have to be pretty bare bones. I don't know at this
point exactly how bare bones I plan to get with this game. I might
decide to go to a more action based roll playing game since I am getting
a lot of requests for something more like an FPS rather than a game book
 style game.

It uses hmm, I can't remember. A popular console screen reader for TUI
distros of linux. I'd know if I heard it. You can use the number pad to
navigate. 7, 8, and 9 move up, read current or move down lines, 4 5 and 6 do
the same for words, 1 2 and 3 the same for characters.

From the browser point of view, it uses minny mo, which is supposed to be
baby firefox. It seems to work with dynamic content. I have never tried to
play srith on it. Maybe I should to see how it works. if you did develop a
browser based game I'm betting it would be a really simple browser page
setup that the browser in question could handle just fine.

   Hi,
Yeah, I suppose that might be possible. Although, I am not sure on the
tecnical details of the game yet. I am getting quite a lot of requests
to create a stand alone application rather than create a web based game.
If I do so running the game on a Braille Plus would depend on its
   technical specifications.
If I am not mistaken doesn't the Braille Plus run a varient of Linux as
the operating system? If so If I made a console application for Linux it
might run on a Braille Plus with very little modifications. I guess i
need to know more about the Braille Plus to tell you one way or the other.

Re: [Audyssey] Creating Roll Playing Games From Scratch

2009-07-16 Thread piotr machacz
yeah same here. I'm personally more into offline gaming. I never liked
online games that much, though the fighting fantasy gamebooks are cool
there you get long descriptions and then links of what you want to do
instad of something like a table: peter. mage. 31 hp out of 45. 11
mana out of 20. and so on and so on.

On 7/16/09, shaun everiss shau...@xtra.co.nz wrote:

 At 07:16 p.m. 16/07/2009, you wrote:
This issue of open-ended vs. tightly scripted RPing interests me. My style
as a game master is to set the scene, create significant non-player
characters with their own agendas, some of whom act off stage independent
of, or in reaction to the player characters, but who may not meet them
 until
a climactic scene. Once I've wound this world up and set the scene, I
release the PCs into the world. I then regard my job as deciding how the
world reacts to their actions. They are the protagonists of this story
after all.

Now that is human role-playing. I've never seen a computer-mediated game
come anywhere close to the richness of a human-mediated game, even in the
MMORPG world. There is always a narrowing of objectives to fit a
restrictive model. This makes sense in a paradigm that demands complete
determinism for each scenario, where every action must be anticipated by
 the
game designer. Without massive hardware support, you aren't going to see
emergent behavior out of this deterministic model, which is the main reason
human-mediated games are still more satisfying.

I'm not expecting Tom to break this problem, although if he has ways around
it, I'm so there for playing and ultimately purchasing the game.

Sure they're not as cut and dried as the comparitively small sryth

sinse i keep getting utterly lost in the warriors 2 dungeons, I've gbeen
trying to discuss setting up a coordinates system with the gm.

His initial suggestion of an aski map wasn't great, and after I asked
about in room coordinates I got the following charming response:

with the system i have today im sorry to tell.. there are
hundreds of different dungeons, so writing such things would
be impossible, writing a code that pickedup what you can
see in a dungeon is not that easy ider im affraid. none can
se the howl dungeon, its covered in fog of war, so you can
only se where you have resently been. this makes it hard as
hell to just tell how to get from one point to another in some
 smart way.

Needless to say, I won't be playing the game anymore, sinse I'm at the

progress in the game, and I'll be making a note of this on the
audiogames.net warriors 2 page as well.

 hi.
just wondering if other people have experienced problems with navigating
 the
IYP window? as I find when i root my jaws cursor to pc, when I have alt
tabbed over to the IYP window, jaws is reading me bits of the start menu
when I try to navigate the screen, and if I try to maximise the IYP
 window,
I find some how I land back in the microsoft flight simulator window and I
can't get focus back to IYP until it complains it can't verify my
 identity.
just wondering has anyone else experienced anything at all similar to
 these
issues? are there accessibility problems with this latest version?
as the odd thing is I am sure I was able to submit my registration once
before no problem and get sapi feedback but for some reason I am just
finding it impossible to navigate the IYP window.
I wish it was possible to get IYP registered or at least get the pilot
number without fs2004 running. as I guess everyone knows it can be
problematic trying to use the jaws cursor with multiple windows open.

 Hi,

I think you should make a folder for the fs2002 things and 2004 things.
I just purchased a copy of 2002 and will be using it - unless 2004 has
anything better (and I won't be able to buy it after buying 02 anyway).

Subject: [Audyssey] thoughts on permanant home for bpp audio

 Hi list.
I am writing to get peoples thoughts on hosting the audio for the blind
 pilots project.
I have just finished downloading all the reuploaded files.
Now a few days ago I offered to host all the audio for the bpp on my
permanant send space max account, to avoid having to reupload files. this

 offer still stands.
I will also host new files as and when they become available.
however I have downloaded all the files, and I was wondering do we really

need a lot of the older files particularly ones that relate to fs2002,
manual take offs and manual landings.
the reason I say this is because now that we have established fs2004
seems to be the way to go, and we also have IYP I think a new comer to
all these files could very easily get confused.
so my suggestion is to discard all the files that are not IYP related and

also the ones that are fs2002 related so that it is clear what a new
comer to the bpp should be listening to.
of course I am only going to be the maintainer, so if the community feels

that these older files should be hosted I will of course do so, but I
really feel for the sake of clarity fs2002 files and anything that is not

to do with IYP should go.
what do people think? once I have had peoples thoughts I will then upload

them into a folder on my send space max account accordingly and then post

a link to be placed on the blog.
I think an entry on the blog should be posted for those who's jaws is
being messed up when they load fs2004 so they no how to fix it.
the solution I outlined a few days ago should be followed even once you
have got rid of the dll if your jaws is still breaking when you load
 fs2004.

yes I have these issues and it's not only with jaws in this game. my
guess is that the game basically messes jaws's video intercept and
it's like, like you're running without the driver installed.

 sounds interesting.
is there any way to avoid putting the cd 4 in all the time during play,
exactly why does this need to be done.
is it to do with registration or is it to do with more files.
if files any way I can get it so I don't need the disk.
any way if I can get it not to use the last disk?
Legaly.
I know there are ways but its a registered version I plan to get so just am
 asking.

well said, well said. nothing to add though I'm a fan of modding

sounds but some people do a lot of cool ideas like damian protected
the sounds but made a way for people to mod ace fire. not sure if
streamway allows it, but anyway yeah you get the idea. ps I don't
steal sounds and I made 1 mod already called lighht cars the heavy

 Hi Shaun,
Personally, I think 64 KBPS still sounds like crap. I wouldn't recommend
anything less than 128 KBPS, which is cd quality, and is still quite
small in wma, ogg, xwma, etc. It is like come on guys. Most computers
these days have over 100 GB of hard drive space and there is plenty of
room for the games, and high speed internet use far out numbers dial up
access now days. There is no need to sacrofice quality to save space or
 download time any more.
 shaun everiss wrote:
hmm 64kbps ogg is really good quality still.
if you made all the sounds mono 8bit wav then you would get small and
crappy sound, though 22000 is the only real lowest I'd go.

 Hello gamers,

As those of you following the Audiogames.net forum may know, there is a new
audiogame in development. This game has been in development for over a month
now under the codename Excalibur. And the first result from this development
is an MP3 demo of the menu system, just to rise some excitement. *smiles*

So what is this Excalibur thing anyway? Well, to put it as basic as I can:
Excalibur is your sci-fi dream becoming true. Ever wanted to pilot a
spacefighter? Ever wanted to face a one-on-one battle with your opponent,
either using AI or via multiplayer? What, ever wanted to stand up against a
whole fleet of enemy fighters in an AI driven game? Then stop wanting it,
now it's time to get it!

Project Excalibur is a new audiogame that is planned for beta release in
December 2009. The game is based on CrystalSpire, the game engine that was
written only to serve the needs of this exciting new title. CrystalSpire
uses XAudio2 for the latest and greatest audio performance, is optimized to
run on older and slower machines, and has numerous other features that will
 ensure a great experience.

The project's current status is not too exciting though --- the menu system
has just been completed. There will probably be some minor enhancements, and
of course some vast extensions, but the basic system is up and ready to go.
And because you still don't know much about the real thing after reading
this plain text message, I decided to put an MP3 demo online so that you can
hear what has been built so far. For more information regarding the story
and proposed details of the game, refer to the following topics in the
 Audiogames.net forum:

 - A new game to shake the stars: Project Excalibur

 - The Flight Commander trailer

The MP3 demo file can be found here:

 http://www.davykager.nl/uploads/excalibur_demo_a1.mp3

Please have a listen and be sure to send me suggestions, ideas, remarks,
complaints, requests or any other type of feedback if you like. Also, don't
hesitate to ask for further information, or to add to the game's storyline.

 Sincerely,

Davy Kager - Project Excalibur / CrystalSpire Main Developer

what I also was thinking of would be that you set the speed as usual
but now you got control of the truck. depending of the time of day
there could be from few to a lot of cars that you would have to avoyd.
the more fatigued your driver gets the controls could be more laggy.
plus if there were cops after you, you could, ahem, play like a
gangsta and try and flee from them. they could maybe crash into some
other car or just you would manage to get out then you would be in big
problems. not only you could have a lot of cops after you, you would
be denied access to truckstops, and if you run out of fuel, you're in
jail. now for the train stuff.

all the non game related stuff like the settings dialog is screen

Re: [Audyssey] New Gamehead On The Block.

2009-06-12 Thread piotr machacz
I'll admit that even if you could upload these games to sendspace it
would do nicely, since like I said before these games work on certain
computers while on others they don't. this is especially the case with
vista where some things just don't work as expected. I'll never forget
the excitement we had on the forums when things went smoothly. I could
record a sample of me playing the demos to show that a lot of people
have great success, hehe.

 approval.
I have been waiting for someone to produce a game engine that was easier too

Some of the games for DOS I am still planning to developed for Windows using
 the GMA engine.

AQ is self-contained to a degree, so you'll find a complete
downloadable package on the site.

I.E. the package itself will download the shareware version of
Quake which will allow you to play the first episode of the game along
with unlimited deathmatch, both online and off.

As for you locating a version yourself, that may be a bit of a
trick, as Quake 1 is over 12 years old at this point! lol! You can
sure try though!…

Quake 1, as you may know, is open source at this point, and the
engine itself, or some variety thereof, is used in many other
mainstream games even today. this is partially why Quake 1 was chosen
for the AGRIP proof-of-concept.

It's certainly possible to implement this kind of technology into
other games but for now, the version of Quake currently supported is
1. -or more aptly, 1.06.

HOpe this answers your question, and please do go up and visit the
site if you would. There's a lot there you might find interesting…

Hello All, it's been a while once again since I've been involved
with the list.

In light of Matthew's recent posting (yesterday) concerning the
AGRIP project, I wanted to let you all know that I'll officially be
taking charge of the project so as to actively keep it alive.

The AGRIP direction / goals have always meant a lot to me, as well
as the Audio quake proof of concept itself, as many of you know…

I feel it will definitely take me a while to become comfortable
heading up the project, as Matthew and Sebby's commitment /
determination / efforts have been, in my opinion, quite honestly
immense.

They've made a terrific contribution to the accessible gaming world
and have continued to support that work over several years. So for
myself, even having some experience developing for the project, I feel
it may take me just a bit of time to completely acclimate as it were…

I'm saying all this to let you know that while I'm more than happy
to field any questions / comments regarding the project / Audio quake,
I'd ask for your patience / understanding during this settling in
period, if you would… smile

If all goes well, I hope to revitalize the project a bit, and once
again, bring it a bit more foremost into the active gaming community.

I, like Matthew and Sebby, do have a busy life / various other
commitments, but I'll also do my best to continue what they started.

smile So hopefully you'll be hearing more about Audio quake /
AGRIP in future!…

thanks for taking time to read this, and hope yer' all having an
awesome day / evening, wherever

same thing applies to jaws, nvda, and wineyes if you turn the right
thing on. hal actually makes some things complicated like mixed
links where it puts a link in a bit of text. that made me hit enter
and get nothing at times when I was at scool where we had this
annoying piece of software which I would call a verry, verry verry
verry last resort lol. I'll need to try core exiles though, the game
sounds itneresting. also as far as action games go you might try out
exmafia.com, accasionally there is a captcha popping up but you can
solve these with web visum.

On 6/8/09, dark d...@xgam.org wrote:

 in it.

I will admit in cases like this it can be a bit of a pain and make things
tedius as you said, because of having to sit through long readings of http
addresses to know what a particular link is, -- though it is stil
workable, as with the mining thing.

Fortunately though, core exiles will hopefully soon have all labled images
which will speed things up nicely.

It must have something to do with the way hal reads immages, that is the
screen reader you use if I'm not mistaken dark? Jaws seems to read the links
fine, and now I think he's added labels or something, because in most cases
the buttons have changed from saying things like immage_eden to just saying
the name of the planet or station or whatever you're trying to land on. Its
 definitely accessible, but very tedius.

 Just a quick question.
Does anyone know of any good action muds/online games?
I’ve tried a lot of them. They just seem to be midevil.
I know that there are such games as miriani and star conquest. But
 those are scifi.
I’m looking for something that is a mud/online game that is action
oriented. Send me any ideas you have.
 Thanks much,
 Nick

too bad the sounds have been locked out! I have a cool idea for a mod.
you're a theef and you're stealing things, a police car is chasing you

lockpick's storyline but the gameplay and all that is different.

maybe every time you get 100 eggs 100 more could respawn or something,
that would be great, that way you would n't be limited by the number

 Greetings gamers,

This note is a quick sneak peek at a few items that will be
announced officially on the Draconis web site soon.

While news has been slow in coming, we're still working hard to
deliver new games for both Mac and Windows. We're sorry it is
 taking so long.

We've not been idle here. In addition to the future titles,
Draconis has decided to change things just a little bit. Here are
 some particular items of note.

 1. We don't want to do a development blog, like many have
suggested. For one thing, it reveals too much of what we're working

on, something that we have a longstanding policy of not doing. But
we do understand how nice it would be for gamers to know how things

are progressing. To that end, we've decided that we will keep
gamers informed on the day-to-day happenings at Draconis to some
extent. Don't expect the top secret details, but do expect to have
a better idea of what is being worked on. Draconis has opened a
Twitter profile and account that gamers can follow to find out a
little about what's happening behind the scenes at Draconis.
Follow us, and see our Twitter page at http://twitter.com/DracoEnt

 2. We are currently building an automated key generation system.
This means that, when you purchase our games, you will receive your

registration for the game immediately. No more human processing
will be required. The new system will be employed for all existing
and future titles. This will dramatically change how we do things,
as we'll be able to spend far more time on development, and less
 time on processing orders.

 3. We've expanded our offerings to include music. We're proud to
bring you a new band called Stage 19. Consisting of two blind
musicians, Molly McClenahan and Josh de Lioncourt, Stage 19 is
celebrating its first release. It's an EP entitled Opening Act,
and is available on iTunes, Amazon MP3, and other digital music
shops under the Draconis Entertainment label. Incidentally, one of
the tracks on the EP is the instrumental piece that serves as part
of the Draconis audio logo. The band site is http://stage19music.com

 4. We have two developers working on the new titles. Silver Dollar
is nearing completion and will be a free offering for both Mac and
 Windows users.

Thanks for your continued support. The best years are still ahead
of us. In the end, it'll be worth the wait. Thanks

Re: [Audyssey] Vip mud sapi problem

2009-05-29 Thread piotr machacz
have you tried using other voices? might be that it's the voice
causing the problems... wait, I remember that one of the sapi5 tags
was indeed the less than or greater than sign.it's used to, funny
enough, silence a line. we've been doing some jokes with klango with
this.

On 5/29/09, dark d...@xgam.org wrote:
 Hi Tom.

While I certainly understand what you mean, afterall that's why I use
Hal with orphius and not sapi (and even if I did, I'd muck about with
pronunciation and verbosity with Hal), when I described it as a bug, i meant
that it is a flaw in the vip mud program when outputing to sapi which does
not exist when using it with screen reader support.

Sinse the program is billed as allowing the user to play muds with
sapi, and this issue makes that not possible (due to unexpected death
through not knowing character status), it is therefore at the least, a
 serious issue in program support.

For obvious reasons I'd have not bought the program if it only supported
 window eyes and jaws.

but before we go too far down the I wan my money back road, - or
indeed anything near that very nasty pathway, as i said to Che, it seems
this is a more individualized sapi problem which I am having, sinse I was
able to do a test by having a friend also use vip mud, scansoft daniel and
materia magica, - and found that the text there read without a
hitch, - and in fact after a second experiment, it seems the same
problem occurs in medievia which displays it's text in the same format.

I coppied that text into a text file and then tried reading it with Jim
kitchin's text file reader - which obviously uses sapi, and again, it
 wouldn't read.

so, the cause of the problem isn't vip mud or materia magica, - or even
 sansoft daniel, it's sapi!

the problem is i've no idea where to go from here, sinse (as you rightly
pointed out), sapi has no verbosity controls or similar abilities for the
user to mess with how it speaks certain things.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

 Hi Dark,
That's not necessarily a bug. Comparing a screen reader to a software
speech system like Sapi isn't really a good comparison in this instance.
While text to speech systems like Sapi have there own dictionaries that
tells the synth how to say various words, numbers, and punctuation marks,
etc any third-party software such as a screen reader can over ride the
voice's built in speech dictionary. For example, in Jaws you can configure

it to say numbers as whole numbers, single digits, or in pares. So a
 string of numbers like 1, 9, 8, 6 can be spoken as 1,986, 19 86, or 1 9 8
 6. That's a simple case where the screen reader overrides whatever the
text to speech voice would ordinarily say given the same number in another

 application.
Bottom line, just becauseJaws says something correctly it doesn't mean the

Sapi voice or application using Sapi is buggy. It is more likely that
Jaws, Window Eyes, Hal, etc has performed some extra speech processing
behind the scenes and is more accurate.
 Smile.

 dark wrote:
 Hi Che.

sinse that line reads fine with JAws and not with Sapi, I would actually
class it as a bug, I'm only using scripting because it won't
 automatically read.

I've tried the command with what I believe to be the correct syntax in
the trigger dialogue, - as I detailed, but either I did something
wrong, or there is something more intrinsic to why sSapi won't read a
line written in betwene less than greater than prompts.

I'm really not sure sinse as I said, apparently it reads fine with other
 speech methods.

stream of characters, I'm guessing this is a sort of a map or an asky
