[Audyssey] 7128 queery

2007-09-22 Thread John Bannick
Tristan,

How can I help get your Game Book to work under your JAWS?

A short suggestion is:

1. Start the program.

Does JAWS speak the title bar of the Window?
For the demo, it should say 7-128 Software Game Book 1.2 Home: 7 Day Demo

2. After the program is loaded, please use the Tab key to move around the
controls.
Does JAWS speak the controls?

The longer suggestion follows:

What should happen when you start the program the first time after you
install it is:

1. The WAV file should play the gong sound and say The 7-128 Game Book is
now loading

2. You should hear the audio progress bar playing ticks of increasing pitch.

3. When the program is loaded, its self-voicing game voice should say:

When this Game Book first starts, the Game Voice is OFF.
To turn the game voice On and Off at any time, press the Equals key.

4. At the same time, JAWS should speak the title bar of the window that is
displayed.
For the demo, it says 7-128 Software Game Book 1.2 Home: 7 Day Demo

Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to avoid the two speeches from
speaking at the same time.

Having the Game Voice speak, then turn off, but be easily turn-onnable,
seemed like a good compromise among sighted players and blind players with
and without JAWS.

This special Game Voice greeting happens only the first time you run the
program.
If the player turns the Game Voice on, then the program remembers that when
it exits,
and self-voices automatically whenever it's run.

In your case, JAWS speaking the Game Book title bar is totally separate
from any of our code.
That is, at that point JAWS is interacting with Windows, not our program
itself.
So the first question is, is JAWS speaking the window title?

The second issue is more embarrassing.
While tracking your report, I discovered that I failed to tell JAWS to
automatically speak the Intro text that comes up the first time the Game
Book is run.

Yes, Tristan, the dirty little secret is that JAWS does not always
automatically speak everything a program displays.
So sometimes we have to write code to send the text to JAWS.

However, if you press the Tab key, the focus moves to each control.
And when the focus gets to a control, JAWS speaks that control.
And one of the controls is whatever text field is being displayed.
When I tried this on my computer, JAWS happily spoke the Intro text.

Other than that gaffe, JAWS speaks everything as you would expect.

So the second question is, is JAWS speaking the controls when you press the
Tab key?

If you have the time and inclination, please try the two experiments above
and let me know how they work for you.

I know the Game Book works in the field because just today I got the
following email:

I'm happy to report that my new games disk is working perfectly with JAWS.
Am anxious to get some blind friends onto my computer to check it out.

We did test it here under JAWS 6, 7, and 8.
However, the real test is on non-developer computers like yours.
An earlier release had some problems with JAWS on non-developer computers,
due to my incompetence.

A final question, are you running the very latest download?

Sorry for the problems.

Hi,
It has an option for jfw accessibility in the options, but it doesn't work,
at least on my jfw. I tried it with JAWS 7.0 and 8.0. And no it doesn't work
with Window Eyes.
