Hi Ben,

My neighbors tell me which pins are left and I set up for the spare. Like if I
just roll my ball totally straight it will hit the 6 pin. If it is more like a
4 or 7 pin left I move all the way over to the left and count clicks to the
right and throw my ball straight. Just with practice and knowing where which
pins are, when they tell me which pins are left I can count clicks and throw my
ball straight at the pin or pins. Of course not so much with splits or other
tricky spares.

Re: [Audyssey] WII Bowling

2010-11-28 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi Charles,

In WII Sports resorts a right hand bowler starts straight in front of the 6
pin. I do a couple of clicks to the left and throw a hook ball for my strike
ball. So I just throw straight at the 6 pin. I move 3 clicks to the right for
a 6 and 10 or just the 10 and throw straight. For a 7 I move all of the way to
the left and move 4 clicks to the right and throw straight. 7 clicks from the
left for a 4. 10 clicks from the left for a 4 5 or 5 10 split. Some times I
get them and some times I don't. It is hard to throw perfectly straight. But
I would guess that there might be about 25 clicks from right to left or left to
right.

Hope that was the kind of answer that you were asking for.

Yes, With scores of 156, 160 and 187 I was picking up most of my spares, but

The WII bowling is just one game on the Nintendo WII game system. I need
sighted help to play the game. They need to start the game and then tell me
which pins are left so that I can try to pick up my spare. I just like the
game so much because the game sensor detects the motion of the controller. So
your arm swing speed, the crank of your wrist and the release of the ball make
it very much like real bowling.

Sorry that it is not a game that one can just down load.

Only once did I miss a 7 pin as my bowling ball dropped off into the gutter

consistently off. Kept leaving the same pins. And just could not figure out
how to adjust to get any strikes.

Guess one will have an off night now and then.

Hi Lukáš,

The WII bowling that I am talking about is one of the games on the WII game
system. You know the WII is a game system like the X Box etc. I am playing
WII bowling in our community room with just a bit of help from my neighbors and
friends.

However Ken posted the below message.

I was playing Guitar Hero 3 on my HTC Ozone the other day when I decided to see
if I could find some walkthroughs, cheats, anything like that. Well, I didn't,
but I found a company called VI fit. Their first production, blind hero, was a
success, though you had to wear special gloves with mini rumble pads in the
fingers, so you'd know which buttons to press and when. Now, they have out
three free, that's right free, games for the PC. They are expansions of the
Wii sports games of Tennis, Bowling, and Boxing. All you need is one or two
Wiimotes, a Bluetooth dongle or built-in Bluetooth support, and a PC, and
you're off and running. I don't have the afore mentioned Bluetooth so I
haven't tried the games yet, but they look promising and are even open-source,
so you can expand on or learn from the games, how they are coded and so on.

Hi Charles,

I remember that in the second team game Terrie left me a 4 5 10 split in the tenth. I picked it up. We still lost 152 to Joe and Judy's 155. The first team game was a tie at 172. I do not keep track of the team or 100 pins games. I also do not think that I would be able to remember all of the made or not made splits by the time that I came home to enter my scores into my little bowling scores keeper program. The WII bowling game does give you little awards of some type for picking up splits. I am a pro bowler on I think that it is Joe's machine. Not enough games on my machine. Or maybe I am as my ball
does have stars on it now.

Hi David,

One day I will try to record a game of WII Bowling. The thing is, it has to be
a day when I am not running the AC and when I can get someone that will let me
record them.

I can not start the game etc by myself. I need sighted help for that. I also
can not play the game as well without sighted help. I do ok with throwing my
first ball trying for a strike. But then I need someone to tell me which pins
are left so that I can try to pick up the spare. I also need someone to tell
me what my score is and which frame we are in. So it is a very fun game to
play with a bit of sighted help. You still need to swing your arm, crank your
wrist and release the ball in a consistent manor. Well I do often not crank my
wrist so as to throw the ball straight at a pin for a spare. It also helps
that I remember the location of the pins so that they can just give me the
number of the pin that is left standing.

Just in case you do not know the set up of the pins, here they are.

7 8 9 0
4 5 6
 2 3
  1

I used 0 for ten just to keep the spacing. For the strike ball a right hander
wants to hit the 1 and three pin equally. A left hander the 1 and 2 pin. The
7 is the far left back pin. the 10 the far back right pin on the lane. The 1
and 5 pin behind the 1 pin are in the center of the lane.

The pins are set in an equilateral triangle with the 7, 8, 9, and 10 pins
spread out at the back end of the pin deck. All rows are numbered from left

are the 4, 5, and 6 pins. In front of those, the 2 and 3 pins, and in front
of those is the 1, or head, pin. The triangle is 3 feet from front to back

Hi Kevin,

It is loud with other people etc when I play down in our community room, but
when I get someone to help me play in my apartment I will try to record some
game play.

However for me in the WII Bowling it is not really much about the sounds of the
game. Sometimes you can tell if it sounds like a good possible strike or not,
but that is about it. The thing that is fun about it for me is that it is
pretty close to real bowling with the movement and speed of your arm, the crank
of your wrist and when you release the ball that depends on how your ball acts
and where it goes.

Hi Charles,

I always start my first ball where the game starts me, so don't need help
there. But then if they don't tell me, I ask which pins I have left.
Apparently the numbers of the pins left are shown on the screen. I also like
to chat it up. You know like ask what pins they have left, how they or I
missed or made the spare etc.

Last night definitely would not have made a good podcast though. We do chat,
flirt etc while playing. And there was a tenant there last night that rambled
on and on the entire time that she was there. Very distracting. Joe was
telling her to shut up, cursing at her etc. That never stops her though. But
hey she is the only tenant that has lived here since the building opened in
1982.

I will definitely do a recording the next time I can get someone to play and
help me in my apartment.

as either one or two players. I know I've already mentioned it, but it
really is fairly easy to master. My highest mii on swordplay is up to
about 1410 or so in scoring. To give some perspective, I have a
sighted friend, trained in swordplay, with scores around 1500. It's
 great exercise, too.

Table tennis is pretty easy too. You'll mess up sometimes, but it's
really quite a fun game anyway.

Realistically, the only games we'll have trouble with are the air
sports games and maybe power cruising and archery.

Hi Brice,

In WII Sports Resorts a right handed bowler starts over to the right side of
the lane. I just throw a nice hook ball from there. I think that I had seven
strikes in one game. But I do not want to just guess at the spares. So I only
play with sighted help.

May I ask what kind of scores you get and what is your average?

I have now bowled 21 games against 1, 2 or 3 other bowlers. I have won 17 of
those games. My average is now 161.95. With 3401 total points in the 21 games.

Hi Thomas,

May I ask, how do you pick up the spares inWII Bowling without sighted help?

- Original Message -
Hi Jim,
There is that. Using the Wii motion remotes are much more realistic in
playing any of the Sports Resorts games. They are all more or less
accessible on their own, but getting through that start up screen is
practically impossible from a blind user's point of view. I've never
been able to get through those initial screens without sighted help
either. However, once the games are actually started I can do pretty
well and hold my own against a sighted player.
It's too bad Nintendo didn't put more thought into there startup
screens as games for Play Station, PSP, XBox are more user friendly as
you can memorize where things are and they have sounds to let you know
where you are in the menus for the most part. I wish Nintendo would
have just put in a basic menu like that in the Wii Sports Resorts
games.

Re: [Audyssey] WII Bowling

2010-07-25 Thread Dakotah Rickard
The game channel is actually pretty easy to find with the plus minus
method. Wii sports is easy to recognize as it has a sort of piano
theme with ocean waves in the background. Then, all you have to do is
press the start game button, which makes a ding of a g above middle c,
sort of like the old windows ding.

Once you're in the game itself, just hit a and b together, then you
can use the d pad for most functions. The only function that seems to
be inaccessible via d pad is the change me button from within a game,
so if you want to change miis, you have to quit and restart, but
that's really not such a hastle.

Some other wii games aren't so accessible. Wii play, for example, is
pretty much totally inaccessible, but both sports games have given me
quite a bit of entertainment.\\Signed:

Re: [Audyssey] WII Bowling

2010-07-23 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi Thomas,

I find the bowling in Sports Resorts more realistic and easier. That is I am
used to starting on the right side of the lane and my ball curving to the left.
So in the first version starting in the center of the lane was not good for me
and my ball always curving to the right was just wrong.

But yeah, thanks, I just wish that I had sighted help more often. I personally
have never even tried to start or play any of the games without sighted help.
One reason is that I would not even want to bowl if I didn't know what pins
might be left for me to try to pick up for the spare.

Yes. You need the motion + sensor attached to each controller to play wii
resort, but is worth it. The bowling throw is more realistic. Besides that, we
can play table tennis, basket ball 3 point challenge and sword play without any

Re: [Audyssey] WII Bowling

Hi Jim,
There is that.
I wish Nintendo would
have just put in a basic menu like that in the Wii Sports Resorts
games.

The beginning part is not stupid at all. It is definitely possible. I think you
are getting comments from some1 who doesn't have wii and doesn't know but
trying to act as if he knows everything.
When your controller is pointing at something, you will hear a click and feel
the vibration. At the beginning, you can click on any 1 that your controller is
point at, then use the plus or minus button to move you to the game. You can
tell is the right place by the short music clip. Next, there are 4 icons. You
want to click on the bottom right icon which is load game. This part takes some
getting used to. It's ok if you click on the wrong 1. If you click on the
bottom left which is the back, you will go back to the starting point when you
turn on the game.

I only bowled one individual game, a 187. We then bowled three games as teams,

won the second game 213 to 155. The girls won the third game 96 to 118.

Thanks. I am having lots of fun with the bowling. Probably more fun than

Yes, you first use an arrow key to move to where you want to start your
approach. Then you hold in a button. Now you swing your arm and release
the button to release the ball. So you can get a loft and yes twisting
your wrist gives the ball a hook. You can though like for some spares
throw the ball with no hook by holding your wrist very straight during
your arm swing. You also want your arm swing to be straight as well. And
yes, although I have not done it they have shown me how you can drop your
ball on a person's foot or turn around and hear the people scream and
scatter as you are about to throw your ball at them. I do not believe
that you can foul, that is cross the foul line. Not sure though. Maybe
if you swing your arm and do not release the button. I'll have to ask.

There isn't a way to fowl--it's a very generic bowling. The baseball-s
generic too, only three innings, nothing spectacular. Biggs 2k9 is the
answer to that problem--it's a bit inaccessible, especially the fielding,
but it's still fun. Sometimes, when I get frustrated at my lack of fielding
ability, I start pitching wicked fast balls at the pitchers. It gives them
a base and me a big laugh.

Good bowling! If you turn your wrist during the throw, does the ball hook
in that direction? And how about the release? Can you accidentally loft
or

drop the ball behind the foul line? Can you foul on your approach?

Hi,

Last night I bowled a 152. Which was my first loss. I then bowled a 187
and a 208. So last nights average was 182.33. My average for my first 6
games is a 170.66.

Still of course need someone to start the game and to tell me which pins
are left to pick up the spare. Seven strikes in the last game helps with
that though. grin

Re: [Audyssey] WII Bowling

2010-07-05 Thread Ken
You don't need help starting the game. All you do is point the sensor till
you feel the Wiimote vibrate. Get as close to the top left as you can.
When you click a, you'll hear the sports music. Then go down about two
inches and right a bit more than two--you'll feel the vibration again.
You'll hear a ding when you press a. That starts up the CD. You press a
when your Wiimote vibrates again, and use the arrow keys to go up and down
the games menu. They do wrap around, but if you land on the wrong one, you
can hit plus, go down twice, hit a, and you're back to the games menu.
Select the right game knowing that the game you were just on is still
selected. The order is tennis, bowling, baseball, golf and boxing. To the
right are some training exercises that are interesting, and the list is
identical but reversed for some weird reason.
If, when you clicked a to select the game channel, you heard music other
than the one that goes with the cd, hit plus and/or minus till you hear the
right music, then point to start and hit a. It's kind of a pain to learn
but not impossible to master--just think of it as a little extra bonus
game--

the find the games game.

Re: [Audyssey] WII Bowling

2010-07-01 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi Charles,

Thanks. I am having lots of fun with the bowling. Probably more fun than the
sighted folks that I am beating. grin

Yes, you first use an arrow key to move to where you want to start your
approach. Then you hold in a button. Now you swing your arm and release the
button to release the ball. So you can get a loft and yes twisting your wrist
gives the ball a hook. You can though like for some spares throw the ball with
no hook by holding your wrist very straight during your arm swing. You also
want your arm swing to be straight as well. And yes, although I have not done
it they have shown me how you can drop your ball on a person's foot or turn
around and hear the people scream and scatter as you are about to throw your
ball at them. I do not believe that you can foul, that is cross the foul line.
Not sure though. Maybe if you swing your arm and do not release the button.
I'll have to ask.

2010-06-23 Thread Ken
You can throw the ball backward and scare the heck out of the audience, and
you can throw the ball into the next lane and hear them laugh at you.
That's just in Wii sports bowling, but there are entire Wii DVD's devoted to
bowling, baseball and so on. Biggs 2009 baseball is well-narrated. Only
problem is there is no auto-fielding so you're gonna get slaughtered by the
computer. Still fun though. I haven't tried the bowling and golf games
available, but I imagine there's a lot of narration there too.

the first time. They told me about where to line up for my first ball

I guess not too bad for my first time. It was pretty fun even though I

Re: [Audyssey] WII Bowling

2010-06-23 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi Charles,

Yes, needing sighted help is why I have not bought a WII, XBox etc etc. I had
planned to just go down and listen to them play, but decided to ask and see if
I could do it with their help. It helped that in the corner of the screen it
told the number of each pin that was left standing.

The crowd cheers, or, oos, so you can tell if you got a strike, picked up the
spare or missed it. And I heard a tiny bit of commentary such as nice you
picked up the spare, but that was about all I heard. Several people there
though so I may have missed some of what the game was saying.

Alisia showed me how you can drop the bowling ball on a person's toe. grin

Yes it's fun, I have one at home but normally try and guess my shots and
quite a lot of times I'll get it right. One of my friends actually shut her
