Hi all,

I'm sending this out as I believe it's important. Please see below for
your reference please feel free to spread the word and forward to who
ever you think will benefit this. I think it's important that a product
such as this is seriously pushed especially because of what it costs.

Thank you

Subject: [Talks] Off topic for some the new wayfinder 2.5 release

Hi,
I'm cross posting this to every list I'm on so I'm really sorry for
those lists that are off topic, this is only for your reference, not to
generate conversation. If anybody wants to come to the wfa list then
email me privately and I'll give you the subscription information,
including to those who I have bcc'd privately. Please feel free to pass
around including the attachment I've put in this email.
I've not given this a proper field test yet I will admit, but from what
I've seen so far, whilst playing with it on my couch, I am going to love
this. The use a position feature is absolutely fantastic and I honestly
can't weight to get out there and really give this a field test. It's
truly great to see at last, that there is an affordable gps solution for
blind persons that is below the £1000 mark, not even that, below £500,
that in itself is a milestone in terms of access technology!! All I can
say is truly well done to wayfinder for designing and programming a
product that 1 is affordable, and 2, that works. Wfav2 always did work
very well in my opinion, but like all things, any good product can be
built upon, and certainly from the little I have played with wfav2.5,
wayfinder have certainly done that. So thanks and keep up the good
work!! Read the below email for details of where to get this product
from.

Subject: Re: [Talks] [Wfaccess] Release of Wayfinder Access 2.5

Good day,

I am cross posting this to the TALKS list for general interest. I would
like to thank Albin, the new product manager for Wayfinder Access, and
his team for a fine piece of work, as well as
Neil for his key role in facilitating communication between the user
community and Wayfinder that made the 2.5 release a reality. In the
past, there have been communication gaps with unfortunate results. This
time around, those who took the time to compose their thoughts were
heard.

For those who may not know, you can purchase an activation code for
Wayfinder Access or TALKS in the amount of time required to receive an
email from Neil's web site at: http://www.talknav.net/

I finally had the pleasure of taking a short walk this evening with WFA,
and thus far am ecstatic. First of all, we have our auto-refresh back
in the vicinity views! The loss of this was a serious problem. I can
now leave WFA in the near by cross roads view and know what street lies
ahead with out hitting manual refresh every 30 seconds.

I walked with WFA for a good mile this evening, and played around with
auto-refresh in all the views. It worked exactly as I would have hoped.
One
thing, if you intend to use this on a phone on which the screen saver
kicks in quickly like the N82, go to options, and set back light to
always on.

My hope for the future is the ability to set WFA to update only those
items in my direction of travel. For now, I am just thrilled to have
auto-refresh back, and working smoother than before.

I agree with those who have commented on the problem of the info view
always returning focus to GPS status upon refresh. it would be very
useful to refresh without changing focus. For me, this would be
especially valuable when monitoring heading and speed.

Another feature I am finding highly valuable is the ability to use
favourites as the focal point for exploration. Go to favourites, choose
one around which you would like to explore, hit options and select use
as position. Give WFA 15 or 20 seconds to download data, and then check
out the vicinity views. They will be populated exactly as if you were
standing at the location of the favourite. I am having a lot of fun
exploring, and have used this along with the map view to learn about
several areas in detail that I will be visiting soon.

There are two things I hope for in future versions. First, it would be
useful to be able to use a search result as a position. Also, it would
be valuable to have the option to lock to a favourite. Right now it is
only possible to lock to a favourite in the near by favourites vicinity
view. This limits the range to I believe about 2 kilometres. This is
limiting for those of us who do not always stay on the beaten path.

I am also very pleased to see the gps status display in a clear manner
in the info view. I now know the difference between a disconnected
receiver and a failure to lock.

In limitted testing of the navigate to feature this evening while
walking, WFA identified my turns about 10 feet before I reached the
corner and gave me the direction and street name while in pedestrian
mode. I was in an open area, and had a good gps lock. I will test
further tomorrow. Overall, I am dang impressed with progress, and very
hopeful for the future development of WFA.

-Len
