Hi Damien,
Well, yes and no. You are correct that Visual Basic 6 will allow you to
create classes and objects, but Visual Basic 6's idea of object oriented
programming doesn't have all the features of oop that Visual Basic 2008,
Java, C++, etc have. The concept of polymorphism is basically

Hi Tom,
Firstly, it is possible to write object-oriented code in VB6. There is, for
example, classes, though you don't have to.
I've found it can be used in a purely procedural method like:
Sub MySub(Whatever As String)
DoThis
End Sub
or:
Public Sub MySub(Whatever As String)
MyClass.DoThis
End S
your right xp does have a type of dos, its emulated dos and doesn't
have the power of real dos. As far as the day when VB6 doesn't work
any more will be the next op that Microsoft releases.

Hi Richard,
That was as good as one of Phil's.
You know that I don't really mean to start a battle, but that is what happens

Is C sharp the same as D flat? It all depends on which direction you're

ladies and Gentlemen,
Welcome to the first episode of the Ultimate blind fighting championship.
In this corner, we have Thomas Ward. Master of C sharp, and a pretty good
moderator at that. In his corner, Angela Summers.
In the other corner, we have Jim Kitchen. Master of the VB 6 shooter. In hi
Hi Tim,
Well when the day comes that my games will no longer run on a computer, I guess
that I will have to do something different, but I doubt that I will see that

As I said, we will have to agree to disagree because I totally disagree with

Hi Josh,
Thank you very much for the information etc. Truthfully though at this point I
do not have the $400.00 to spend on a new screen reader and I do not wish to

They know the difference when it won't play on there box, because not

My only concern with that line of thinking is this. What happens when
microsoft drops support for direct-x8 on one of its newer operating systems,
and then all of your games become unplayable? Then I'm certain you will be
receiving lots of complaints to update your games.

well I don't program myself but if I can get away with it I usually get it.
So you will see me upgrading all the freebees I can, and if I can I may just

Hi Bryan,
Yes, Visual Basic 2008 works fine with Window eyes 6.1. Interesting
enough on the game developers list we just went through an entire
discussion of Visual Basic 2008, DirectX 9.0C, and other languages.
Sometime, not sure when, I am going to be doing some VB 2008 tutorials

I wonder if it would work with Window-Eyes then?

Hi Bryan,
Well, personally I would strongly recommend that anyone interested in
Visual Basic at least give Visual Basic 2008 a try. It is free, and
contains many of the features Jim Kitchen mentioned earlier.
As for Visual Basic 6 you can still get it used from some place like

Hi,
On Ebay, and of course the pirating sites hosted by members of the

least the compiler tells you.

1. It is not cryptic to me. I E it uses words that I can understand, such as,
If, Then, GoTo, GoSub, Return, format, etc.
2. It has a very easy to use feature full interface to the free Microsoft sapi5
text to speech engine and DirectX.
3. It has a great integrated help system with programming
