Re: [Audyssey] island game

2014-12-25 Thread Jacob Kruger
Yup - also already copied things like directory listing off C: drive into a
floppy disk image to double check spelling of some of them - used 7zip to
extract contents afterwards - would be nice to also figure out how to do
things like change speech rate on the fly/go, using keystrokes, or commands,
or something, but, let's see.

Also got to now test another game someone else mentioned to me - braminar,
which is a full on standalone form of interactive fiction role-playing
game - and worked fine now off it's own .flp image...smile

and now that you can use the virtual floppy you can then do
copy a:\*.* c:\dosgames
and put your games inside the hard drive of the vm.

regenerated that disk image using the full file/folder path to the files

drive, but, if I change the original floopy disk to use that file,
instead of a non-existent hardware drive, then it works - and turns out
am not sure can play my test game of the hobbit, but, can at least now
use the virtual floppy drive - thanks again smile

use the .flp format with bfi and you must manually write the extension
like this

bfi -f=c:\mydisk.flp c:\dosgames\football

in vmware 4.0 your .flp image will be the a: drive or it should be a:.

drive for a second floppy drive - it tells me drive not ready, please
insert disk, etc.

Will try a few different formats in BFI, etc., and try assigning it to
original floppy drive, etc., but anyway - bit of a pity if can't take
this much further than just playing with dos and windows 3.1
themselves...LOL!

Might also try out an older version of VMWare player, but, really don't
think that's the issue - one question on that side of it - VMWare
player offers me both create and browse buttons with regards to floppy
images, but, when you select either option, it's still looking for .flp
files, but anyway..?

you mount it before you boot the virtual machine, do you have vmware

and the connect at power on checkbox to make floppy work.

The two files inside that are Hobbit.dat and Hobbit.com, and like

image, both versions just tell me that there's no disk in either/any

And, saw that the option for sharing virtual network share paths is
listed under VMWare player 4.0.2, but, disabled, and also saw in
windows 3.1 control panel that it doesn't seem to have any network
adapters installed - not sure what actual hardware the virtual device
could match, and/or how I would install drivers if can't pass

Wonder if there's not a way to access/work with the VMWare virtual
file system externally/prior to booting up VMWare image? Will have to
look around for that, but, chances are you'd need to have the paid for
VMWare software installed.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13327195/hobbit.iso.flp

The two files inside that are Hobbit.dat and Hobbit.com, and like said, in
windows XP virtual machine, can browse the virtual floppy alright, but,
under either VMWare version, when using the dos/win3.1 image, both versions
just tell me that there's no disk in either/any floppy drives/ddevices, etc.

And, saw that the option for sharing virtual network share paths is listed
under VMWare player 4.0.2, but, disabled, and also saw in windows 3.1
control panel that it doesn't seem to have any network adapters installed -
not sure what actual hardware the virtual device could match, and/or how I
would install drivers if can't pass data/files on to this image...smile

Wonder if there's not a way to access/work with the VMWare virtual file
system externally/prior to booting up VMWare image? Will have to look around
for that, but, chances are you'd need to have the paid for VMWare software
installed.

Ok, created the .flp image of the original hobbit game's files, but,
if I either try mount it to the already included floppy disk piece of

Do you just reassign the already included floppy disk to use that

use the .flp format with bfi and you must manually write the extension
like this

bfi -f=c:\mydisk.flp c:\dosgames\football

in vmware 4.0 your .flp image will be the a: drive or it should be a:.

Will try a few different formats in BFI, etc., and try assigning it to
original floppy drive, etc., but anyway - bit of a pity if can't take
this much further than just playing with dos and windows 3.1

Might also try out an older version of VMWare player, but, really

VMWare player offers me both create and browse buttons with regards to

didn't want to cooperate with second floppy drive, but, if I change the

use the .flp format with bfi and you must manually write the extension
like this

bfi -f=c:\mydisk.flp c:\dosgames\football

in vmware 4.0 your .flp image will be the a: drive or it should be a:.

Ok, created the .flp image of the original hobbit game's files, but, if I
either try mount it to the already included floppy disk piece of virtual
hardware, or try create another one inside virtual machine, it keeps telling
me disk/drive not ready from command line when virtual machine is running..?

Do you just reassign the already included floppy disk to use that image
file, do you tell it to connect at power up, or do you map it into virtual
machine another way?

As in - sorry for multiple posts - used following bfi command:
bfi -t=144 -f=hobbit.flp src

And, had the two files for image in src sub-directory - hobbit.com and
hobbit.dat - and if I then use 7zip to extract contents of hobbit.flp, they
are there/do show up.

Hi,

I was able to use the jaws7 virtualise window function to capture a few of
the screens of the island game. I think it'd be best if a windows version of
the game could be made. Jaws doesn't read the DOS screens right or is slow
at reading them.

Island of Mystery Adventure
Welcome once again to the wonderful world of adventure, where
knowledge, creativity, and common sense lead you through castles,
ghost towns, haunted ships, and dozens of other exciting atmospheres.
This time you'll be exploring a tiny island in the middle of
a vast ocean in search of eleven treasures. You must first locate
each of the treasures and then find the secret place where the
treasures must be stored. Twenty points are awarded for each properly
stored treasure. Once a treasure has been stored it can not be
retrieved.
There are 240 possible points (this includes 20 bonus points
that are awarded for three particularly difficult tasks). The game will
end when you reach the 240 point plateau.

To move across the island, simply type N,S,E, or W for the
four main directions on the compass rose. The word 'go' is not
needed. You can also use function keys 1-4 for these directions.
Use only one or two word commands. A few commonly used commands that
you will find useful are look, get, take, drop, and inventory. You
need only type the first three letters of any command for the program
to understand what you are saying. For instance, the command 'DROP
PISTOL' can be typed as 'DRO PIS'. The FIX command will fix the screen
display in case the screen becomes distorted for any reason. The
adventure understands about 50 commands in all. The function keys
have been programmed with some useful adventure commands.

 Some words to the wise...
1) The majority of the 11 treasures have other uses. Be careful
when you store a treasure, you can't get it back!
2) Be sure to examine everything you find.
3) Be on the lookout for hidden messages.
4) Remember that some of the treasures are secretly hidden. This
is an adventure after all!
5) If more than four objects are at a location, the more message
will be displayed in the visible object window, meaning you
can't see everything that is around you at once. You can move
objects around to get a look at everything.
6) The only way to find all 11 treasures is by successive
movements, that is, one command must be used before another
command becomes useful.
7) Watch out for the headhunters. You never know when they will
show up!
   Press spacebar to continue
graphic 568 D:\TEXT_A~1\ISLAND.EXE
 Some words to the wise...
8) You have a limited amount of time to find all the treasures.
A huge storm is heading your way on the island, and if it
hits before you find all the treasures, the game will end.
9) If one set of words in a command doesn't seem to be working, try
another combination. The vocabulary the adventure program
understands is limited, and words that may make sense to you might
not make sense to the adventure.
10) GOOD LUCK and HAPPY ADVENTURING!

[Audyssey] island game sendspace link

2007-02-05 Thread Josh
Hi,

Below is a link where you can get the island game at. The game is about 80k
when unzipped. It consists of a single file, island.exe . Run that file to play
the game. If it's too hard to play since it was designed for MS-DOS, could a
windows version of the game be created?
again, see the forwarded message below, to get the island game.

I wasn't able to get that far.
This game is public domain, thats good to know.
When audiogamemaker comes out I may try to code this.
First though I need something or someone to translate the source to psudo text

I don't understand c.
So I used a pascal convert, but I still don't understand the file.

for. Since it's free, I'll put it on sendspace and give you the link for it.
Maybe a windows version can be created?
also let me know if you can play it.

Josh
