[Audyssey] looking for a bsc title

2016-10-07 Thread lori duncan
Hi everyone, someone sent me a zip file containing bcs audio games, but
when I ran the classic trupanum file, the voice on the game is different
sounding from the one I had to begin with. I had the game as a birthday
present installed on my old laptop before it took a virus and died, and
I also got the game as backup on cd, however I can't find the cd so have
no way to access the version I'm looking for. I'm not sure if classic
trupanum was ever updated since the walkthrough done by Raul Gallegos,
but the voice on mine is defanatly different and not as good. Would
someone know where I could get the origonal version? I really like bsc
games and it's such a shame they closed down.

 From Lori.

Re: [Audyssey] Looking for some Accessible MMORPGs...

2016-10-02 Thread dark

Ah apologies.

Well again if you look on audiogames.net undr mmorpgs that is what you'll
find there are lots of them, also on the www.whitestick.co.uk site.

I'd personally recommend Core exiles, metroplexity, Kingdom of loathing
Sryth, puppet nightmares and drakor (though you need good skills with your
screen reader's navigation for the last two, nothing inaccessible just
ability to read mouseover text and so on).

Good old Legend of the green dragon is always worth a play and there are
plenty of good varients like dragons of myth, or legend of aron,

then there is alsofirry paws, crimson moon, popamundo, twilight heroes,
bloodwars, the avengers, space oddessy, ateraan space empires, firry paws,
ashes of angels, monster breder, I think uncharted peak is still going,
alien adoption agency, loraeon etc.

Really there are a great many, heck I ran into one called lirania just
recently, though it was very much the usual hack n slash.

As I said if you let us know more specifically we might have an idea.

Hth.

Dark.

Dark,
I was not looking for muds. I am looking for MMORPGs that are online,
browser-based, i.e. WildStar, Rise of Chaos, Desert Operations, etc.

You'll need vipmud or mushcleitn to play the muds, or MushZ if you want to
play alteraeon, the game that has most extensive sound support and plays
like a real audiogame rather than a text mud, not that there aren't
some great text muds out there too.

hth.

Sorry if this is a bit general, I'm slightly tired and it's a large genre of
games, if you let us know what your interested in we can probably help more
specifically.

all the best,

Dark.Yes very many, though most are text or muds.

Look at www.audiogames.nenet, go to "search games" and use the dropdown for
game genre to select either mmorpg or mud.
Also go and visit www.whitestick.co.uk and see their games to play online
page.

Hi Jody,

Unfortunately, that is true. There is a lot of things the developer of
Bavisoft could have and probably should have done, but he strikes me
as not really giving a care. He wrote Chillingham and Grizzly Gulch
and after that pretty much let things go without too much in the way
of technical support, follow ups, and insuring people can legally
obtain his products once Bavisoft closed its doors for good. Its sad,
but in my opinion the games weren't that good to begin with so aren't
that much of a loss to the community in my opinion.

Cheers!

It's interesting that audio adventures (as I've called the genre on
audiogames.net), are now becoming far more common and we have some rather
better examples like the inquisitor games and codename signus, not to
mention graille to the thief which is about the same difficulty as the
bavisoft games, but just costs 5 usd, and is hopefully just an intro for
similar games later on.

All the best,

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] looking for another game please.

2015-10-22 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,

Actually, I believe the ICANN shut the Bavisoft site down last year
not 2012. In any case it makes little difference because as you say
they were long since not a going concern by then. They wouldn't answer
their e-mails, couldn't be contacted by phone, and were notoriously
bad about not shipping orders for their games. So regardless of when
they were shutdown they were pretty much done anyway.

Cheers!

When the audiogames archive is finished, we will host the demo versions of

Also - before anybody comments on the legality yes, we can do that (barring
communication with an update), as per the license agreement when you install

I must say I do want to see what things were like before.
Its why I go for old soundcard soundfonts crappy that they may be for
general use.
I mean gameboy soundfont, crap for almost everything else but what if I
want to play a old game soundtrack and remember it.
Or if I get something what about getting something like a snes or nes
font or old synth not suited for music and play it for something not
supposed to do that.
hvsc does c64 and thats one synth I enjoy playing, the older stuff some
of it is so good it stays.

Game wise well who knows.
Last night I watched an old video of a mainframe starting up, computers
starting are nothing to what it was back then and I liked the nostelga.

Hi John.

Bavisoft vanished off the map long before their site shut down, indeed
the
last I remember anyone hearing from them was in August of 2009, and that
was

only a "please don't copy our games", nothing about the game compatibility
problems with newer windows, their future plans or most worrying of all
their lost orders, or why the hell they were persisting in trying to sell
games on cd that could be easily downloaded, indeed as far as I know
nobody
recieved a new cd of a Bavisoft title sinse after 2008, and even before
then

several orders went missing.

To set the hole matter to rest I tried to even phone Bavisoft myself after
I

got hold of the founder's actual new york number through some creative use
of Google, and got what I believe is the American out of order sygnal,
which

seems pretty conclusive proof.

Bottom line, Bavisoft seem to have dropped off the map as far as I'm
concerned, and they did so long before their website went bye bye.

Beware the grue!

Dark.

ICANN, the internet corporation for assigned names and numbers, is basically
the organization that manages domain (website) names, and keeps track of who
has what website. They also require a certain degree of accountability from
anybody who has a website - requiring a valid address, phone and email
before you can set up a website - and its the term "valid" that got Bavisoft
shut down.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] looking for another game please.

2015-10-22 Thread dark

Hi John.

Bavisoft vanished off the map long before their site shut down, indeed the
last I remember anyone hearing from them was in August of 2009, and that was
only a "please don't copy our games", nothing about the game compatibility
problems with newer windows, their future plans or most worrying of all
their lost orders, or why the hell they were persisting in trying to sell
games on cd that could be easily downloaded, indeed as far as I know nobody
recieved a new cd of a Bavisoft title sinse after 2008, and even before then
several orders went missing.

To set the hole matter to rest I tried to even phone Bavisoft myself after I
got hold of the founder's actual new york number through some creative use
of Google, and got what I believe is the American out of order sygnal, which
seems pretty conclusive proof.

Bottom line, Bavisoft seem to have dropped off the map as far as I'm
concerned, and they did so long before their website went bye bye.

Beware the grue!

Dark.

Oh sure they vanished long before - but I was talking about when folks

Re: [Audyssey] looking for another game please.

2015-10-21 Thread dark

Hi Tom.

While I agree, to an extent that is true of any adventure game
unfortunately, it certainly is true of Graille to the thief which is a much
more recent release.
There are of course some games like INquisitor that have extra little side
turning or things to discover on a second run, plus are much longer, but in
general this is a limitation of the adventure puzzle style games as a genre,
very different from say action games or tactical or exploration based games.

In a game like Graille to the thief, which is just five usd worth of random
fun, it's not so bad, however saying what was originally charged for the
bavisoft games it's not a good state of affairs.

All the best,

Dark.

Hi Simon,

I take it by your comments that you have never played any of the
Bavisoft games completely through. It is for that reason I think your
opinion might be a bit premature. Weather the games are good or bad or
not is of course highly subjective, but the thing that really turned
me off those games is once you solve all the puzzles there is no
longer any replay value in the games. The second time you play the
game will be nearly the same as the first time you play the game. Thus
I found them boring and uninteresting the second time through since
there isn't a lot of change from game to game.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] looking for another game please.

2015-10-21 Thread dark

Hi.

I'd say the bavisoft games are worth a play certainly, my problem is that I
finished both on the day I got them. Grizly gulch has a llittle replay value
if you put the speed up sinse then you've got essentially a bunch of casino
games and an arcade shooter, but the same is sadly not true of chillingham,
indeed to say Chillingham was supposed to be a more serious, more plot
driven game I was quite disappointed by the fact that the plot actually
goes no where and you learn nothing in the end.

Certainly worth a play as I said, but don't hold out too much hopes on
thirty hours of gameplay or endless replay value.

All the best,

Dark.

Cheers!

It's interesting that audio adventures (as I've called the genre on

better examples like the inquisitor games and codename signus, not to

What displeases me is that the developer didn't make arrangements for
his games to be found after development ended. At least BSC games
could be found even when development had ended.

Re: [Audyssey] looking for another game please.

2015-10-21 Thread Thomas Ward

Cheers!

2015-09-20 Thread dark

Hi Katy.

Aprone has had two extremely good new games recently the tyle based battle
game triple triad and the survival stratogy game pawprints.

find them on his site:
http://www.kaldobsky.com/audiogames/

Also, the text rpg The wastes is growing all the time, most recently it's
had some massive expanations of inventory. It's random, at timesunfare and
down right crazy, but really addictive and good fun.

find it's homepage here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/thewastes

Use the "download latest version " link, and remember to check back sinse
new versions are frequent. ~also don't worry about the ascii, hit 3 for
options on the main menu and then 5 for no ascii mode.

Hi. As some of you may know, I recently beat the game paladin of the sky. Now,
I'm asking for your help. Does anyone know of any games that would provide a
challenge to keep me occupied for a few days or possibly a few weeks? Any help
you can give will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Katie

Re: [Audyssey] looking for MMORPG games

2015-09-06 Thread Dennis Towne
Dacia,

This is perhaps a bit late, but you may want to give Alter Aeon a try.
It's one of the bigger text-based multiplayer RPG games out there, and
with the Mush-Z soundpack it's also one of the most blind friendly.
The game theme is fantasy, with various kinds of magic, dragons, evil
and good creatures, quests, achievements, equipment upgrades, and lots
more. The main web site can be found at:

Hi Dacia.

Yes, that is whacky. I don't know why that is going on but I've let Sander
know about it so hopefully it'll be fixed. I actually hope it is sinse I use
the search games function often when editing the db myself.

Re: [Audyssey] looking for accessible games for the Iphone

2015-04-15 Thread dark

Well that gives lots of choice.

All of the somethinelse first person action/adventure titles such as
pappasangre and the night jar, not to mention audio defense (though
papasangre 2 has game center achievements they're certainly not necessary to
play), all of the titles from ticonblu such as the inquisitor games, (audio
adventures), the arcade games like sixth sense and zany touch, not to
mention all of the gamebooks from choiceofgames and hosted games (I was just
playing one of those on the train).

Oh, and both star traders elite and king of dragon pass too, indeed if you
love really complex rpgs kodp is not to be missed though be warned it has a
learning curve.

About the only things that are %100 out would be net games like trivia
crack that rely on opponents, mmorpgs like solara or the storm8 games, and
at least some features of the card games like lost cities and the kid
friendly software games, although you could still play these single player
against the computer, and lost cities at least has some fairly challenging
computer opponents to keep you busy.

hth, and sorry this is a summary, as you can tell there is a lot! it really
depends upon the type of thing your interested in, though as has been said
browsing applevis or the audiogames.net db might be helpful.

All the best,

Dark.

[Audyssey] looking for accessible games for the Iphone

2015-04-14 Thread Dacia Cole
Hi,

I just got an Iphone 6 last week and am looking for accessible games
to play on it. I'm specifically looking for games that don't use data
once they're downloaded. If it uses data I still want to know about
it but it just means I might play it less. I'm looking for simulation
games, audio games, card games, and dice games. I'm looking for the
game Skipbo in particular, does anyone know if that exists? I like
games like pingpong, archery, and basketball, any of those?

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

Dacia

Re: [Audyssey] looking for mysteries of the ancientsbeta(preferably 18)

2014-09-02 Thread dark

Hi Tom.

That would be appreciated, particularly sinse I could then also update the
audiogames.net db and entry with the information as right now the mysteries
of the ancients entry is sort of hanging in limbo where as if there was a
file of the last beta I could explain what was going on on the entry and
that the game was being reworked.

I admit I did think myself that thee was some more serious reason than just
avoiding bug reports behind why the last beta 22 was no longer available,
which is why I never asked you to put it back up myself.

All the best,

Dark.

2014-09-02 Thread dark

Hi Tom.

Beta 18 is the last beta I have stored a copy of.

if I remember rightly hadn't you changed to using some other sound library
in the later betas which made things much less reliable as regarded sound
sources etc?

I do remember there was a general dip in stability due to some massive code
reshuffle just after beta 18, was that the point you changed from a
windows specific solution to Sdm? I am not sure, though the fact that beta
18 was the one I kept rather than the later ones definitely suggests that it
was probably the last stable version sinse usually I'm very careful about
updating my directories of setup files when new versions of games come out.

Hi John,

Well, since many people have requested that I put the betas back up if
I am going to do it I might as well do it for everyone rather than one
person. that means a production release and not just zip up the
contents of the demo and slap it on the USA Games site. that's also
why I was curious to know why beta 18 verses a newer release.

I have not played beta 18 any time recently, and only have beta 22
installed on a couple of machines. So that is why I was wondering what
if anything was so different about beta 18 that made it preferable to
the newer releases.

Re: [Audyssey] looking for mysteries of the ancientsbeta(preferably18)

2014-09-02 Thread john
The main thing for me is that in beta 18, when you jump, you can keep running without having to re-press the arrow keys. This means that you can run straight through the levels and its a lot more of a challenge on the reflexes than the later versions
which require you to press the arrow to start moving again. I believe at the time you'd said this was because of switching from direct x, but I may be wrong.

Hi Charles,

I always considered it to be the most stable version of the game I
produced. Yeah, there were a couple of things that could be improved,
but beta 22 was the best version in my personal opinion. that is why
John threw me when asking specifically for beta 18 which I personally
didn't think was as good as beta 22. However, it has been so long
since I played beta 18 maybe there is something in it that wasn't in
beta 22?

Cheers!

They were, for the most part, all pretty stable. There were just subtle

Well admittedly it has been a while since I've played. I could be mistaken,
but I do remember there was one particular Beta that was particularly
stable. COuldhave been either eighteen or twenty-two.

Hi Bryan,

Oh, really? I would have thought beta 22 was more stable than beta 18
since there were quite a number of updates and bug fixes between 18
and 22. I had no idea that beta 18 was considered by end users to be
more stable. If that's the case perhaps I might put that version up
instead of beta 22. Although, people will effectively lose out on any
changes in the later betas.

Cheers!

[Audyssey] looking for mysteries of the ancients beta (preferably 18)

2014-09-01 Thread john

Hi all,
As the subject says, I'm looking to get a copy of mysteries of the ancients, preferably beta 18 if anybody has it. Its been a while since I've played, and I've been having hard drive troubles, so if anyone with a copy could get in touch with me
I'd really appreciate it.

I fully understand that the reason MOTA betas have not been distributed officially is because of bugs and a desire to avoid pointless emails. I hear by declare that, should I receive any beta version(s), I will send no such emails. If you have a
version and are willing to upload it, please contact me off-list, as posting download links here may end up creating said emails.

Thanks,
John

2014-09-01 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi John,

Is there any specific reason why you want beta 18? There are several
newer betas than that with bug fixes, and updates available. So I am
curious as to why beta 18 specifically?

In any case I just checked my backups and the only beta I have on hand
is beta 22. I deleted all the older betas and just kept the newest
public beta for myself. If you want beta 22 I suppose I can put that
back on site for a while until I roll out the newest beta. If it
absolutely has to be beta 18 I'd have to build it from source and roll
out an installer for it which would take time.

Cheers!

Hi Charles,

that is true. Of course, keep in mind at the time I told people not to
share the Mysteries of the Ancients betas I was expecting to release
an updated beta within six months and had no idea that development
would drag on for years.

My primary motivation at the time was to keep users, possibly new
users, from pestering me with bug reports, feature requests, etc that
had nothing to do with the new beta I was working on and was intending
to release. However, as I know the project has slowed to a halt I can
probably locate a copy of beta 22 and at least put it back up on site
for the end users' enjoyment until I can roll something else out.
