Re: [Audyssey] Morse code

2009-05-08 Thread Ken
I learned it as a ham radio operator. We had to be able to listen to it at
20 words per minute to pass that part of the exam. Now I don't even HAVE a
ham radio.

It's sort of neat to know, and I would have to go through a refresher
course or something. I learned it as a Boy Scout, but that was, shall we
say, a while?? ago? (grin).

learn it. It would be fun

I believe that there are Morse code trainers that do exactly what you're
looking for. The speed of what you hear can be regulated so that you can
practice or improve your sending and receiving of code for different ham
radio licenses. However, unfortunately, the learning of Morse code is no
longer a requirement for obtaining even a novice license. You may be
able to find just such an animal through the use of a search engine. I
think it would be a fun little tool to have on your PC, but I would not
consider it to be a game. More of a utility, maybe? JMO.

Would be kinda neat if someone created this. One of the things I always
wanted to learn was morse code. Can anyone see where I'm coming from
with this? That's right. an audiogame that teaches you morse code. You
hear a letter, or a word, and you need to type what it means. pretty
geeky huh? the better you do, the faster it could get or something.
There should also be a tutorial to learn the code. Wonder how difficult
it would be for someone to create such a game? It could be called Morse
code buster. hahaha.

[Audyssey] Morse Code

2009-05-08 Thread The Kolesar Brothers
Hi to one and all. The Morse Code or better known as C W requirement for we
ham radio operators was dropped around 04 or 05.
I sure am glad that in 2000 they had dropped the CW requirement to only
5wpm. I couldn't pick out the 13 and the 20 wpm exams.
For those interested there are now only three written exams and the Morse
Code requirement has bee dropped altogether. The three levels are Technician
or Tech for short, the General which you have to be at a general level if
you want to be a examiner and the extra which I now hold since January of
01.
Hope that helps everyone out.
Ron station KR3DOG originally KB3EDC.

2009-05-08 Thread Bryan Peterson
I don't remember if they were a particular model or brand, but I do remember
that as a kid there was a model of Walky Talky that had Morse Code
capability, not that I ever got the hang of it. But I do remember my brother
and I each had several sets of those Walky Talkies at various times in our
lives.

I want you...to go upstairs...and kill that boy!
