For the most part using the number one on your keyboard, not the numpad keys
but the actual typing keyboard is your friend in fs 2004 flight control.
Sometimes you'll have to hit one to select the propper menu and then hit two
to send your response off to the controler. Sometimes if you have a
situation where you have two different radio situations going on, you may
need to use one to select like the tower controler and then the number 3 to
request takeoff and then one to send your responses back to the controler,
but thats the only situation where I think the number three gets involved in
the equation. Its hard to write a precise set of steps down here as the
controler menu changes depending on the airport or the service being
selected. But in general one and two or various combinations of those are
your friends. A typical senario would go something like this. Hit one a
time or two to bring up the atis frenquency and listen to it for the
weather. Hit one to switch to clearance to get your plan filed and start
that dialog then hit two to send the request to the clearance operator. He
responds back, and you then hit one to answer him. He ecknowledges readback
correct contact ground on whatever the number is he gives. You then hit one
again to go to ground and then 2 to send off your response to them and wait
for their information, hit one to answer them and then they say contact
tower on such a frenquency. You hit one again to change to the tower
controler and then in this instance hit three as the hitting of two will
cause the atis menu to be displayed again I think so three is your number to
send your takeoff request to the tower. Tower then either confirms or
denies your request at this time and you ecknowledge them with one. Then
once you have your clearance, or if they give you clearance immediately, you
ecknowledge with 1 and throw the throttles to the wall and your out of
there. From then on out for the most part its 1 to ecknowledge a flight
controler, and then one to change frequencies and one to contact the next
controler. This assumes that there is a situation where your being required
to respond to them. Under most circumstances in fs2004 hitting one while in
flight gives you the option to change your flight plan while your in flight.
There is a situation that comes in to play where control wants to know if
you can see the traffic they're telling you to watch out for and you have to
use two to answer them, but that is about the only situation I can think of
where that comes in to play. There are some rather freeky things that can
happen if they decide to assign you to a visual runway on an ils approach.
Then you need to bring up another menu entirely with the number 2 or three
keys I haven't totally figured that out entirely as its a fun thing to have
to deal with but for the most part, that will get you off to a reasonably
good start. Hope that helps,

Subject: [Audyssey] question about using radio in IYP.
Hi list.
I am wondering if someone could please give me a very simple guide to
using the radio in IYP?
as I tried listening to the podcasts again with IYP, and to be honest I
was completely confused, as nick did a good job with the podcast over all,
but particularly at the beginning he wasn't really explaining things well
he was just pushing things and saying ok now i'm talking to the controler
etc, or now i'm getting the weather information.
he didn't say ok to get the weather information i press ` then press 1 so
many times or to file my flight plan i press ` then press 1 so many times
or to respond to this i press ` and then 3, he wasn't talking through the
steps of what he was doing.
so I would really appreciate a guide to using the radio right from getting
clearance to take off, and then using it throughout the flight.
also, how do I set my departure frequency, and what are the different navs
for as in 1 2 and 3?
lastly, as the forum was annoying to navigate, robert has set up a google
group instead, I think everyone who is using or wants to get into using
fs2004 and IYP should join it.
as at the moment it only has 6 members, and I think we should demonstrate
to robert that there is a large number of people who use IYP.
