Okay? I've never actually attempted playing any Star Wars music on the

recording equipment anyway. I am sure I could do a whole bunch better

 Hi,

Tonight I just discovered a new way to play games. One that, well,
rocks. Kind of combinds two hobbies in one you might say.

Earlier this evening I was testing some new changes in Mysteries of
the Ancients beta 17 when I frankly got sick and tired of hearing the
same music being looped over and over. So I wwent into the program
settings turned off the background music, and then fired up Windows
Media Player with an mp3 playlist of various 80's and 90's rock hits.

So here I am running through the tomb blasting skeletons apart,
slottering centaurs, and making short work of the harpies while bands
like Metallica is cranking Creeping Death, AC-DC is playing Shoot to
Thrill, or the Cranberries are singing Zomby in the background. It
adds a totally new dimmention to the game play with alternative rock
music blaring in your headphones while you are kicking serious butt.
It is frickin' great. If you would like it I'd be happy to upload a
trailer or something of me playing with music in the background.

I don't know it seams to give me more energy. It is like the music
gets me really juiced up and in a mood to beat the crap out of
something or engage in some wild fighting. As Pat Bennatar would say,
all fired up. I've got to try this approach in Shades of Doom or
similar action filled game. I think it rocks.

 Cheers!

Lol tom!

Actually i have done the same. If I need to learn some music, I frequently
set it playing in the backgrtound of a puzle or fast action game, in fact in

my audio review of bg hearts, you can here midis of The sorcerer in the
background which i was doing a production of at the time so needed to be
familiar with.

I've also occasionally used music for less interesting bits of a game,

for instance the long runs of trading in smugglers 3 are much more dramatic
with the music from Starwars pumping away in the background ;D.

One of my stranger habbits has been playing puzle or fast action games while

listening to books on tape, indeed I first read a good bit of the wheel of
time series while trying to play puzle bobble!

the weerd thing is, occasionally my game skills actually improve! I remember

having a horrible time with the 1st level of the first castle in Mega man
4, until! I started listening to Lord of the rings!

I'm not sure if this is because one of Mega man's weapons in the game is the

ring boomerang, one ring boomerang to rule them all? but either
way, I stormed through the rest of the game fairly quickly once I had frodo
and gandalf on my side ;d.

I've not really found many audio games I'd want to do this with though, just

for the problem of listening to two voices at once through your ears.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

Hmmm...That's an idea to consider. Something for the future though.

Well, I think that is pretty cool, and I would like to make a similar sort

 it.

Two parts:

Part a:
I love music. Feel free to write me off-list. I play a bunch of stuff,
so I'd love to talk to anyone about pretty much anything

Part 2:
I'm really happy you found the joys of this. It's a part of gaming
that some consoles, like XBox, have embraced. I often listen to other
music when I'm playing long long games like Entombed.
I composed a piece from playing Entombed called Deepest Dark.

E-mail me if you want it, anyone.

Happy playing:
Games and music.

If I need to learn some music, I frequently
set it playing in the backgrtound of a puzle or fast action game, in fact in

familiar with.

I've also occasionally used music for less interesting bits of a game,

One of my stranger habbits has been playing puzle or fast action games while

the weerd thing is, occasionally my game skills actually improve! I remember

I'm not sure if this is because one of Mega man's weapons in the game is the
ring boomerang, one ring boomerang to rule them all? but either
way, I stormed through the rest of the game fairly quickly once I had frodo

I've not really found many audio games I'd want to do this with though, just

Might be a better discussion offlist... but I'm curious. What styles
do you play, primarily? I never took lessons... self-taught myself,
mainly. Journey and Bon Jovi are right up my alley... along with most
other hard or classic rock groups. Jazz and blues... never got the
hang of that. Could never learn enough on my own. lol.

Re: [Audyssey] A New Way to Play Games

2010-11-18 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,

Yeah, same hear. I find I'm able to play the game better with loud
rock music playing in the background even though at the same time it
is confusing. I think part of it requires blocking out the lyrics
wwhile getting into the wrythm and tempo of the music. It energizes
me, and yet if I listen to it directly I would screw up.

Interesting enough though I have been experimenting with a sort of
special theme mp3 playlist for the game. It was sort of cool playing
MOTA with Michael Jackson's Thriller in the background because it sort
of fit in with the mood of monsters chasing you and trying to kill
you. The wolf howels etc really added a new dimmention to the
ambiance of the game. Wicked is what it was. Lol!

Re: [Audyssey] A New Way to Play Games

2010-11-18 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,

I'm a bit of jack of all trades you could say. I am a fan of all
flavors of music and play classic rock, alternative rock, heavy metal,
pop, country, and have even played a few Jaz numbers like Little Brown
Jug in high school with the high school Jaz band. Although, I don't
particularly like playing Jaz on the guitar because there usually are
some pretty oddball chords in volved like alot of seventh and ninth
chords better suited to a piano or keyboard. I also performed a few
classical pieces live before the high school, and that stuff was
really tough to learn do to the fact those pieces need to be finger
picked instead of using a pick. Plus they use some really non-standard
chords. Anyway, if you want to talk guitars and stuff write me off
list.

hang of that. Could never learn enough on my own. lol.

Okay. Well wrapping up this part of the discussion... guess we're
both more of the same then. lol. I'm not particularly picky about the
styles I play either, but because of the lack of lessons... jazz and
classical stuff is out of my league. But all the other styles you
listed are fair game. But anyhow, back to gaming. It's fun to see
what riffs you can come up with to play with depending on what game
you're playing at the time. Lately I've been thinking about recording
some background stuff for playing... just need to think of what suits
each of the games I play. It's fun though.

Cheers!

Hi Tom

I think it's a great idea to have some alternate music in game. Certainly
not complaining about the mota music but sometimes a theme like the Imperial
march just gets one going!
