Re: [Audyssey] A note about Materia Magica

2009-05-17 Thread dark
admittedly playing a paladin I don't need many reagents, but it does seem
that a lot of the common ones such as elemental reagents, --- earth, water,
air and fire, may either just be picked up or randomly bought, it's only the
specific ones like Astrel which i believe are hard to come by.

As I said, I've only just started in the game, and being a paladin I just
have one spell which requires reagents, but this is the way it seems from
reading help sections etc.

Hey all,

Just to let everyone know. Materia Magica has this weird magic system,
where you have to find reagents for spells and such. If you don't like
hunting for reagents and stuff, don't choose it. Choose something like
warrior or Ranger.

Re: [Audyssey] A note about Materia Magica

2009-05-17 Thread Kellie and my lovable Lady J.

hey dark,
you are correct. the only reagents which are hard to come by are astrals.
those are used for more complex spells, not your every day ones. now,
resurrecting costs an astral as do a couple others but the main use for them
is to resurrect someone. some mobs have astrals which randomly repop on
them. when you are an archon, you get them more frequently from killing
hunters. heh, archons need to stock them so they can help fellow archons who
die from a hunter. lol

I haven't noticed any of that. And ranger is part mage, actually. They get
spells like armor, magic dart, spark, etc. They do start with a bag of
components though, but I assume that's mostly for brewing potions and doing
things with herbalism.

Re: [Audyssey] A note about Materia Magica

2009-05-16 Thread Kellie and my lovable Lady J.
you just buy reagents in shhops though. they aren't that hard to obtain. And
to really play the game to the fullest you will eventually be all classes,
if you stick with the game anyway. When you pick a class, you advance to
level 60. You can quest during your time there or receive marks, which are
like miniquests where you receive practices, and quest points and ex p
points and the name of the marks shows on your list of marks. I have 92
marks so far and there are many more I still need. However, I digress. After
you feel that you have everything done in your current class you can go to a
quest master and request a new class. when you do this, you then go to
second class and again work your way to 60. You will retain your skills from
our prior class as well as gain skills from your current one. You will have
a total of 4 classes when you come to hero which is level 240. It becomes
well rounded because you will have a fighter class, cleric, mage and thief
class. I am ranger, valkyrie, priest, bard. The final class you become after
hero is archon, which I am now. to do this you have to undertake the domain
of arbacess. This is a condensed idea of how to go about things. if anyone
is more interested look for aralyn in game and I will help as best as I can
with questions.

Re: [Audyssey] A note about Materia Magica

2009-05-16 Thread Kellie and my lovable Lady J.
rangers are actually considered a mage. in the game here is how things are
split up. the different fighter classes are as follows. barbarian who
specialize in offensive fighting arts and can use axe and get battle rage
and bash. palidin, who are the holy fighters. along with the basic fighting
abilities they also receive some curing spells. cavalier, they are masters
of mounted combat and are the only class to use the lance. They are also a
male only class. Valkyrie, a female only class whose specialty is defense.
they are the only class who get second defense. Meaning too chances to evade
attacks of an enemy.
for the mage class there is ranger, a class who along with spells, gain some
fighting skills as well. since they are suppose to be forest dwelling they
are survival skills. they can track and mix herbs. psionic, the mental mages
in the world of allyria. All the spells they use are mental and it can be
nice since an opponent doesn't know when you are casting a spell nor can
their spells be silenced. wizard, the adepts on all different types of
spells, they have many in their colection, but not many fighting skills
since their pursuits were of the arcane nature. monk, these fall under the
mage catagory but also share fighting skills like the ranger. they get bashh
and martial arts. And they share herbalism in common with the ranger.
the different clerics are priest, who possess hhealing spells and other
benevolent spells such as resurrect but also harmful spells such as poison,
plague harm and others. druid, who are the lovers of nature and use the
elements to heal as well as cast harmful spells on enomies. shaman, are
similar to a priest but have some skils unique to themselves such as
elemental shield. They also are the only cleric class to get bash. witch,
sometimes a hard class to play, because their only means to heal is by
leaching life of the enemy. They have many malevolent spells to cast on an
opponent though. hex, jinx, disjunction and others.
there are only 2 thief classes and I often wonder if that is ever going to
be increased. You can be either a rogue, who can often evade aggressive
mobs, track or snare unweary players for killing and backstab and others. or
bard who are masters with music. Using instraments to weave a spell, some
for good of themselves and others to bring harm on another.
That is a not so brief descrition of the classes. lol And I will mention
about herbalism under this.
herbalism isn't related to the use of reagents. for herbalism which is a
very powerful skill in the game, you use sprigs that can be bought in
apothecaries shops in the various towns. you use a mortar and pestle to mix
them. You can create cure mixes, such as cure light, cure disease, cure
poison, which are nice because they can be eaten during battle. You can mix
calm so that if you're in a no magic room or silenced you can eat the herb
to stop a battle you otherwise are unable to flee from do to other reasons.
you can also create high explosive, blind, fatigue and such that can be good
to use against an opponent. There are others but I am just mentioning some
of the more common ones.
