Hi,
Thomas, I am trying to contact you, in your capacity as moderator of the
gamers list, I am seeking permission to post a particular message,
I am wondering, did you get my message I sent you yesterday?
I have been having a few issues with e mails not reaching people
recently, so thought I would mail the gamers list and ask if you
received it, I sent it to your gmail address.

Hi Alex,

Sorry. I did get your message, but haven't made an official decision on it
as yet. It really has nothing to do with gaming which means it would
technically be off topic, but I also understand your reasons why you
are asking. Its for that reason I'm trying to see if there is a better
alternative to posting an off topic message to the list which would go
against guidelines.

This is where some device for making voice notes can come in handy.
Anything from, say, a tape recorder to a PlexTalk Plus would do the job.

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA question

2011-10-15 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Connor,

That's one of the challenges of the game. Potions are randomly placed
at the beginning of the level so you will never know where they are or
when you will find one. The best thing to do is avoid the harpies if
you can or kill them before they get you.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA question

2011-09-27 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Charles,

True, but a person could just as well use the tools they are given
such as r for room number and x to get the character's coordinates on
the map. That's what they are there for, but unfortunately some
testers ignore the tools they are given and expect me to figure things
out based on description alone instead of specific information that is
only a key or two away. That is perhaps the most frustrating part of
doing beta testing with the general public is not everyone makes a
good tester and overlook the obvious information that can make or
break an easy fix.

Cheers!

Hi Curt,

Could you be more specific where you are in the game? Like what level
and what room number specifically. I'm afraid I don't know where you
are by your description. On level one the spikes aren't anywhere but
room 19 which isn't even close to the rope. On level 2 I think they
are in like room 16 and room 19. Again not near any ropes. So it
sounds to me like you aren't making much sense here.

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA question

2011-09-22 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Curt,

No offence, but that's even more confusing. Room 8 is the room with
the broken floor which you have to jump over to reach room 9. That's
after you open the bronze statue in room 7. If you went left, back
into room 7 and down the wooden staircase, that would bring you back
into room 1. If you are in room 1 and move left you would run into a
stone wall. Besides that there are no items in room 1. That's the room
you start out in. Are you checking the rooms using the r key or
guessing room numbers here?

The reason I ask is your descriptions of things don't match the actual
level map file. You are describing things that are in other rooms. So
it sounds like you are guessing room numbers rather than actually
using the r command to get room and location info.

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Question

2011-08-21 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Bryan,

Well, to be honest I kind of think that is cheating. That's why there
isn't at least one potion in Angela's inventory at the beginning of
the game. After all, if you start a new game, tangle with a harpy, and
end up dying as a result that's just bad luck. You can just restart
the game and maybe get more favorable results the next time. I guess
to sum up my opinion it is a question of challenge, difficulty, and
weather or not it is realistic that Angela will just happen upon a
potion each and everytime she steps into a tomb right off.

Besides that, it goes without saying this is one of the basic
challenges in random chance. If you flip a coin in the air it will
either come up heads you win or tails you lose. There is nothing
assuring you that you will get heads each and every time that coin is
flipped. Same concept applies to my games.

Sometimes you will enter a room and you will mow down a skeleton,
injure a centaur, get ripped by a harpy, or encounter nothing at all.
Sometimes there will be a potion nearby and sometimes you will have to
really search to find one. Its a coin toss weather or not you will get
lucky sometimes, and its this degree of challenge and uncertainty I
enjoy. So that is why I ditched the idea of giving you one or two
freebies to help you get passed the first few monsters.

Cheers!

On 8/20/11, Bryan Peterson bpeterson2...@cableone.net wrote:
 Hi,
I have a small question...well more in the nature of a suggestion really.
But a few Betas back it was decided to allow Angela to start with one potion
already in her inventory. If it wouldn't be too difficult I'd like to see
this feature reintroduced, for the very reason it was implemented to begin
with. Because of the randomness of the game it's hard to know whether the
first monster you encounter will be a Harpie, much less whether you'll find
a potion soon afterward. Because it can sometimes be difficult to avoid
getting hit when fighting a Harpie, and if you are you obviously want to
have a potion handy to cure the poison. So I'd like to see the free potion
restored (Idon't even know why it was removed to begin with). I've lost a
few games before they even got started because a Harpie was right inside the
first door I opened and so it was almost a guarantee that I was going to
take damage. And because I had no pitons and didn't find one in time, I lost
the game before I started as I said before.

I have a pretty good grip on the game other than that, as I said in my

something along those lines, so if I need anymore suggestions I will ask.

Thanks.

Re: [Audyssey] Mota question.

2010-03-16 Thread Steve
Well, thanks for the suggestions, but I do not remember asking anything but
what happened to the keys.
I have a pretty good grip on the game other than that, as I said in my first
post on this subject I played Mota when it was in Beta 4 or 5 something
along those lines, so if I need anymore suggestions I will ask.

Thanks.

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Question

2009-10-22 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Ryan,
Good question. I'm trying to decide weather to release the bug fixes as
a small miner patch or just to finish up a few things I am doing, and
release the whole works as beta 9.
Anyway, in either case the hand to hand combat will be in the next
release. It is already coded into the game so regardless if I release a
small patch or a full release it's in there.

Hi Hayden,
That file is a private test build of MOTA beta 8 for another gamer that
was having problems with the standard MOTA beta 8 build. I decided to
create a couple of test builds to see if I could resolve the
bugs/problems on his system. Now, that I know how to resolve said bugs
and problems it will be in the patch I'm releasing later today or tomorrow.

Re: [Audyssey] mota question and intoomed question

2009-10-19 Thread Charles Rivard

Hello gamers,
USA Games Interactive would like to announce the immediate release of
Mysteries of the Ancients Beta 8. This all new release contains various
miner bug fixes and updates to the game. Such bug fixes include: being
able to jump without getting stuck afterwards, the bug with burning
torches and heavy breathing in the main menu should now be corrected,
fixed a couple miner bugs with the save and load game functions, and so
on. As of this release amazon warriors now carry bow and arrows, and the
centaurs will throw fireballs at you. In addition this release has a new
view command that will simply speak everything around you without
requiring you to navigate a menu. As always please remember to uninstall
Beta 7 before installing Beta 8. To download the game visit our web site at
http://www.usagamesinteractive.com/products.php
and install it.

Happy gaming!

Re: [Audyssey] mota question and intoomed question

2009-10-19 Thread Bryan Peterson
Hey there. MOTA is actually an acronym that stands for Mysteries of the
ANcients. Actually the full title of the game is Tomb Hunter I: Mysteries of
the Ancients. It's the upcoming title from USA Games Interactive. You can
download a Beta version for play from www.usagamesinteractive.com. As for
your Entombed question, you want to make sure your characters are of a class
that can use the type of armor you bought. Copper I think is only usable by
fighters, so if you don't have a fighter in your party you wouldn't be able
to use the stuff.

Re: [Audyssey] Mota Question

2009-02-24 Thread Shadow Dragon
Sure you can crouch and shoot in real life, but personally I think it makes
the game too easy. Nothing can touch you, and if you're out of range you
don't even have to rise, you can just keep holding the down arrow and make
little hops forward via jump till you're in range. I just went through
expert not losing any health, accept for the tiny bit I rose from a crouch
just to see how far a skeleton could attack from since I wasn't hitting with
my pistol. Or it didn't sound like it anyway. Think I was though. Also, you
can rapid fire jump through levels as well, so unless enemies stop you from
moving altegother, its possible you could just jump everything and complete
the level without touching a single enemy. Traps might be a bit tricky, but
just throwing it out there.

than having to crouch attacks, then rise and shoot. Would make the
cyclopse battle more interesting if you had to figure out the rhythm of
his attacks instead of just ducking and blowing his legs out from under
him.

Re: [Audyssey] Mota Question

2009-02-24 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Aaron,
if you have a suggestion how to resolve this issue I'm all ears. Should
I just disable the duck/crouch command all together or maybe allow you
to take half damage when ducking?

Shadow Dragon wrote:
Sure you can crouch and shoot in real life, but personally I think it

went through expert not losing any health, accept for the tiny bit I
rose from a crouch just to see how far a skeleton could attack from
since I wasn't hitting with my pistol. Or it didn't sound like it
anyway. Think I was though. Also, you can rapid fire jump through levels
as well, so unless enemies stop you from moving altegother, its possible
you could just jump everything and complete the level without touching a
single enemy. Traps might be a bit tricky, but just throwing it out there.

Re: [Audyssey] Mota Question

2009-02-24 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Thomas,
I like the idea of half damage when crouching.
But this position should also make you more vulnerable to something on the
ground like scorpions or rats, or snakes or army ants.
If Angela runs out of torches crouching could also give her a way to feel
the ground and say, There's seems to be something here.

You could also use shift control arrow to have her crawl under low areas.
Or when she meets the final boss creature she could crawl to it and the boss
would not kill her if she does what it says.

smiles,
Phil

Hi Phil,
Actually, there will be a shift+control+arrow combo to crawl coming up
for some of the more difficult levels of the game. As for speaking
messages Iris, or her agency, charges a boat load of change to do voice
work so I'm not going to pay to say everything I'd like her to say.

Re: [Audyssey] Mota Question

2009-02-24 Thread Scott Chesworth
Tom,

Phil just hit a gold mine there with the idea of enter feeling around
an arms length or so of where you are anytime you're crouching. Even
more realistic would be a radius if you have a weapon drawn,
circumference if you have both hands free. Combine that with the idea
I posted in another thread about shuffling along crouched and we have
100% realism, plus a way to explore a room if you've gotten a bit
torch happy and you're all flamed out.

example, say you're fighting the cyclopse. If you're standing, he could do
cross body strokes with his sword, sweeping chops. If you crouch, after a
couple strokes he would change to overhead swings. This way you'd have to
use some strategy, find the cyclopses attack rhythm and hit him when you
can, making sure to avoid his blade, and if you mess up there's always the
retreat behind the door option. Just an idea.

Re: [Audyssey] Mota Question

2009-02-24 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi,
Here is an idea. This seams to me to be the only realistic solution. If
you duck or crouch quickly the enemy with the sword, bow, etc will miss.
However, if you remain crouching the monster will adjust his aim the
next attack and hit you. That means you would have to alternate between
standing and ducking to avoid various attacks. Alternatively have the
game force you to stand up after a couple of seconds.

Yeah, sounds good to me. Would add something of a strategy element to the
game rather than just being able to crouch hop through all levels shooting
or chopping everything down at the knees, haha.
