I'm not sure what your level of expertise is here, but VIP Mud lets
you connect to pretty much all MUD and MUSH servers out there.  These
servers run all the time and pretty much always have people on them.
When you connect, you'll be dumped into whatever world is hosted on
that server.

Once you're connected, it's a simple matter of talking to people or
playing the game aspect of the server; if you're looking for pure,
freeform role playing with other people, you'll probably want to log
into a MUSH.  If you're looking for a more structured place where
freeform role playing is secondary, you'll want a server like Alter
Aeon.

If you're worried about making a bad impression, don't be.  The big
MUD/MUSH servers have a lot of people on them and you're not going to
do anything they haven't seen before.  If you want to try out Alter
Aeon just to get a feel for it, we'd be happy to have you.
