Constantine,
is this connecsant card for laptops? Also is your computer running XP or Vista? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Constantine" <tcwoo...@shaw.ca>

I use connecsant AC 97 audio. Some people say it sucks. I've yet to have a problem with it. The realtech card on my netbook is ok. Its hd too, but the stario mix/microphone seriously sucks. The stario mix, mind you, can have its volume controlled, unlike this here hp. Problem is, the microphone volume is so low, even at 100 percent, while stario mix is on, its not even funny. Lastly, there is no microphone boost option, which greatly annoys me, unlike on this hp. My desktop is a hole other story. Forcing me to use gold wave to adjust audio properties, since the recording volume just has a bunch of mute checkboxes, and I can't be sure what I'm selecting. It also has no volume sliders that I can see. This is another realtech hd card, I think its an alc662 or something like that. I absolutely love soundblaster live cards. The best out of the bunch, in my oppinion. Stario mix rocks, line in rocks, it can do microphone and stario mix together, etc. Its rather old, and I don't know if you can find one for a laptop. I don't like there 24 bit cards, though. Crackles with anything. Horribly latent, I found. Have no idea about microphone or anything but I hated it.

Have a SiS 702 or something here built in to an older system. It does all of what you describe. Stario mix is unadjustable though, same as this hp. In fact, that's what I'll most likely use for recording my podcasts, since it just happens to be in the room my systems are in.

I agree. I have Vista and my card goes crazy sometimes. Get a new one. I would spend the money for an internal one and get it installed. Since it's gonna be your primary card. Later ----- Original Message ----- From: "shaun everiss" <shau...@xtra.co.nz>

I have xp, I have never used line in with this card I can't use stereo mix with the mic at all.
The hd card doesn't have any issue with mota.
it has no issue with the gma games as long as you don't run anything on the card at all.
I'd still recomend getting another card.
Aparently some say hd cards are good, maybe I have not figured them out.
if I could stop them cracking and doing weird things maybe I'd use em, actually tried, when it works its real cool.

Shaun,
Are you quite sure this is a sound card issue? I really want to make absolutely sure before I fork out some cash for a new card. I'm already in debt (I hate these stupid credit cards hehe), so I really want to avoid purchasing something I won't be needing. secondly, are you running xp or vista? If you are running vista, can you use stereo mix and line in and all that stuff with no problems? and lastly, which card do you recommend for this Toshiba laptop? Should I perhaps just buy an external card? I have absolutely no clue how to install a soundcard on a laptop, which would most likely mean giving up even more cash to have someone install it if it isn't external

I would recomend getting another card.
the hd card sounds rather cool when used, however I have had issues where stuff didn't run right, ie teraformas, and sod and a couple other things.
Most things do run ok.
then there is the fact that there are 2 seperate input/output devices.
these are not linked and you get no mic sharing with playback and recording. The card also crackles loads and extra drivers seem to mangle this system and make it even worse.

 Hey all,
This soundcard is a realtek high definition audio. I have no clue what realtek considers high definition audio but there you go lol. I've also had many issues with it, such as not being able to use line-in cause that option is non-existent, and not being able to unmute my microphone when stereo mix is on. I have yet to find a solution for this issue and I've been looking in hundreds of forums. This greatly annoys me since I was planning on recording mk and sfiv reviews amung other things. I'd appreciate if anyone could answer the following questions: first, is there a fix for this issue I'm having? is it my soundcard acting up, or is it Vista itself? I've heard many rumors that vista doesn't support line-in and that it also lacks the ability to record both microphone output and stereo mix, so I'd like confirmation from people using other cards with vista. and second, do you guys know if this card supports surround sound? Thomas, I know you said the headphones have 3 jacks you c
an
plug into the card. only problem here is I only have a headphone jack, and another jack to the left which I presume is for the microphone. I'm using an internal mic so not sure about this, and the only time I tried plugging a microphone in there, the person I was talking to heard this loud annoying sound. This is a toshiba laptop btw. If Vista's the culprit, then I'll most likely uninstall it since all these audio problems are really getting on my nerves, not to mention the ftp issue I've been having which I mentioned on here months ago. still haven't managed to fix that either *grin*. so any help at all you guys can provide would be much appreciated as this computer's driving me insane.
