Re: [Audyssey] To develop the idea from GMA?
Hi Demetry, Yeah, I know hardware based keys can be a serious pain, but I also can't fault GMA for going to a hardware based key. Remember Shades of Doom 1.0, Lonewolf 3.2 and earlier, Trek 2000, etc all used user name based product keys and those games were getting cracked and passed around quite a lot amung the members of the blind community. What else could GMA do other than let it continue or go to a more secure hardware key system? I know when David Greenwood released Shades of Doom 1.2 he said he got quite a few requests for upgrade keys from invalid users using someone elses user name and product key. Many of them upon finding out the jig was up turned around and purchased valid product keys. I don't know the exact numbers, but it is because of people like that that Che Martin, David Greenwood, and others are using these tighter security key systems. That said hardware ID systems are not impossible to crack. There are cracks out there for the GMA Games, and I'm not going to disclose what they are. However, it is just an example here no matter how good the security system is someone else will figure a way around it. As for passing out the key generator GMA definitely could not do that. Remember Shades of Doom, Sarah, Tank Commander, and Packman, etc are all developed using the GMA Engine. if he released the licensing tool for free then every single game that uses the GMA Engine could be licensed and cracked real easy. No hacking and cracking to it. Just create yourself a key, and no payment required for any and all games using that engine. Demetry Yousifidou wrote: Hi, Would be better when the games to provide as freeware because alot of time to spend for support, or resend the codes, or bring out after a couple of years the key generator. L-Works has it the same done with Judgmentday as well as David Greenwood with the license policy. I think so it's nerved when I re-installed the games sometimes in a new installed Windows when I mailed every time to the developers and say please resend me a new unlock code, and then may I can wait and wait for many days or sometimes also some weeks when the unlock will sent. I had it with JD and one time also with GMA. I think the registration codes should be depending with the username and or email address or so but not with the Hardware ID! --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] To develop the idea from GMA?
Hi, There is a lot of reasons why GMA might not want to expand upon GTC and SOD. Making games is a matter of time, money, and interest. The first thing to keep in mind is money. If a company hopes to sell a game after they sell x copies of a game they will reach a point where they will saturate the market and won't make any more money off it. Since GMA offers all or most upgrades for free GMA isn't making any money off continuing SOD or GTC any further. Then, there is the matter of time. Every software developer needs to decide how he/she is going to spend their time. Are they going to spend x hours on an all new revolutionary game they can sell, or they going to spend it making upgrades for a game that has already sold as many copies as they can sell. It is smarter to make the new game from that point of view. Finally, you have to consider the developers personal interests here. Perhaps David Greenwood feels GTC and Shades of Doom are complete products now. In that case he would have little to know interest in expanding or continuing development on either game since he thinks of them as finished products. Cheers. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Ok man you do like to put in a spark in to your messages. He is working on several game projects but I can not talk about them. He is active in the Homerus sailing competition. and he spends most of his spare time building a spacecraft so he can fly to the moon. Oops, I wasn't supposed to mention that! demitry is right though in a way, we have doom 1 and then 2 then 3 although there are reasons why david may not choose to do this and I am sure he has thought about it in detail I have wandered if there would be a sod2 sod 3 and gtc 2 and 3. I'd really like a tank game with more missions and the ability to put in unlimited missions. In that case he would have little to know interest in expanding or continuing development on either game since he thinks of them as finished products. it's kinda like ur... ok, a previous poster said. O, it was tom--excuse the ramblings, it's 10:30 and coffee doesn't seem to be doing the trick. It's finally disapointed me for the first time in my Life, how sad. Anyway, returnning from the tangeant, It's unlikely that david would be able to make a large proffit off of more versions of shades of doom, or gtc as he's already sold the first copppies. It would have to be set up so they paid an upgrade fee, which would not be much of a net proffit, considering how much the games cost anyway. Basically, the proffit output may not offset the time and effort needed to provide music, more sounds, and most of all the research and development that would go in to a game like this. Re: [Audyssey] To develop the idea from GMA?
Hi Shaun, Well, keep in mind that Doom, Doom II, and Doom III are completely different games. They are not expanded upgraded versions of the same game. Same characters, but different story lines and places. So if we compare Shades of Doom to the actual Doom series Shades of Doom 2 and Shades of Doom 3 would have to be totally new games. That means new sounds, new music, etc. Honestly this is one aspect of audio game development that I've noticed is difficult to do in an audio only environment. In sighted games they can use the same enemies over and over again, but draw different levels. They can change the seens, add better graphics technology, change the colors of the enemies, a bunch of things to make the game look and feel different. We are somewhat limited in audio on making games totally different from the last version. For example, in some of the Tomb Raider games Lara can be attacked by gray wolves. In Tomb Raider Prophecy they added a special wolf, a black wolf, that can breath fire. That added a totally different aspect to the game, and the look of the black wolf was quite a bit cooler than the sstandard gray wolves you would normally fight. The best you could do is maybe make the wolf growl ddeeper or something to identify that the difference between a black or gray wolf, but definitly just isn't the same for mine. shaun everiss wrote: demitry is right though in a way, we have doom 1 and then 2 then 3 although there are reasons why david may not choose to do this and I am sure he has thought about it in detail I have wandered if there would be a sod2 sod 3 and gtc 2 and 3. Hi Demetry, Can you please rewrite what you are trying to say. Your message is completely unreadable from an English readers point of view. it makes absolutely no sense. About the only thing I got is Shades of Doom and Tank Commander are more than three years old. We know that, but what is your question or suggestion? Demetry Yousifidou wrote: Hi all.
