Think about this: You have a digital TV at home. A remote control box
operates it. Are the buttons labeled in braille? Does the remote speak
when you press a button? Now, you are totally blind and nobody else is at
home. You want to watch channel 32 and don't know what channel the TV is
tuned to. What do you do? You cannot see the TV screen to see what channel
is tuned to.

Now, you have an I-Phone and want to play a game that isn't very complex.
Can you do it, even though the buttons aren't labeled? Probably not the
first time you try, so what's your next step? Maybe you could get a sighted
person to tell you which buttons do what when pressed, and memorize them for
future use. Maybe you could just press them and see what they do. I would
prefer the first approach, but it isn't always available. If you know other
totally blind people who do play the game successfully, you could ask them
how they do it. This, too, is a good approach.

By the way, were you able to change your TV to the channel you wanted to
watch? Remember, those buttons probably are not labeled.

Re: [Audyssey] games with unlabelled buttons

2011-01-15 Thread dark
Sinse I can't read in game text but can sometimes see enough graphics to
play something like Mega man, I've used this tactic in mainstream games for
years. In fact when I bought the Mega man aniversary collection, it almost
became a bit of a family joke, me asking my mum to read the level select so
that I could remember it ;D.

The one thing I will say is that obviously the rest of the game needs to be
playable anyway, and also the button structure needs to remain the same and
not randomized.

there is no good finding one of 100 items at random with unlabled selection
choices and no way of identifying them. This is why though I've been able to
play Mega man zero games which have about 70 items each (mostly by using
heavily anotated faqs), I've never managed any of the later castlevania
series, sinse there are just too many items, all of which are obtainable at
random, and none of which I could identify once I picked it up.

Oh, and obviously the game itself would have to be pretty playable anyway of
course.

Beware the grue!

Dark.
