One joins a room, and selects a user. This is the one downside I have about the ps3 aside from the lack of psn management through the web is that you can only invite in certain games. No, but I believe you can select from your friends list once you select the online option for whatever mode it is. The XBOX360 lets you challeng whoever you want instead of just going into a lobby, if I am not mistaken.
