Re: [Audyssey] ps2 games
Hi Nicol, there certainly are a few games that can be played without any assistance after a bit of pracitce. HOwever, I don't know any game that would be really 100% accessible. It's not as simple as inserting the disc and starting to be a master right away. :-) There always is a bit of memorization and perhaps sighted assistance involved to tell you how the menus are layed out, for example, but then you can improve your skills on and on by learning what sounds represents what etc. I am talking especially abut the Mortal Kombat series here. As far as I know, there already are three parts of that series out there for PS2 - Deadly aliance, Deception and Armagedon. I've only played Deadly aliance but I used to have great fun beating my sighted friends and winning arcade tournaments on the hard difficulty. :-D As to making Sing star accessible - well, I'm not a programmer but I guess that implementing a reasonable voice recognition system would be damn difficult and time and resource demanding, when you consider that our developers are usually just one or two man companies. But again, I'm not a true developer yet... Hope this helps. I played a bit on the play station with the help of my brother's child. He told me which buttons on the joystick to press and it was cool feeling how the joystick vibrates when I kill an enemy. We played a game called ragid and plank. Well that is how you pronounce it. Its really a cool game. I think its almost like treasure hunt. In the game you also shoot a lot of enemies and you have to jump onto leafs and over acid pits. That's really a game I would like to see become accessible. My brother's daughter and me played finding Nemo. It's a game they based on a movie. That would also be nice to see become accessible. And then we played a game called sing star where you have to sing and earn points. The lyrics shows on the screen. Its almost like carioki, the only difference is: the full band sings as usual. You can't take away the artist's voice while singing. For example if we sing up town girl of Billy Joel the original Billy Joel track plays as usual, but then you sing with it. The game is very lenient for it doesn't judge you on how well you know the words but how well you know the tune. My sister's children also had such a sing star game but with tracks on it which is not so popular and easy to sing than the 80s tracks. There was only one song on that cd which I knew and that's a song of the rolling stones from a movie. I new none of the words and my sister's children couldn't read the words to me because it was too quickly changing on the screen but I got the highest points just because I knew the tune; I lha lha lha the whole time on the tune and I was getting the highest score. I earned a medal on that song. You can earn different trophies if I may call them like that. I think the smallest one is a face, then you get a duck, and then a medal. I can't remember the others. A song my sister's youngest girl loved to sing was tick tock. The song begins where the woman is sitting in front of the piano and tries to practice singing a song while accompanying herself, she only sang and played a few notes, then she slammed the piano and stood up and then you hear a clock ticking for a while and then you hear a sound like a car starting up and then the song begins and in the song they sing: What you waiting what you waiting what you waiting for? Can you remember that song? Anyway do you think an accessible sing star is possible? Then one could script jaws to read the words as they come up and in this way you would then listen to the words a few times and then know it by heart later on. Re: [Audyssey] ps2 games
yes. the floowing games are totally accessible, but will need sighted assistance the first few times you play. the one i really recogmend is urban reign. it's a game a bit like dstreets of rage and tekken all in one. streets of rage is a sidescroller, tekken is a one on one fighter. the tekken element is more present in urban reign, because all the bad guys comea t you instead of you going to them. you take out, say, 4 enemies at the same time instead of one, with accasional one on one duels. ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] ps2 games
Hi there, Firstly, Sing Star is probably completely playable for the songs you know, and I'd be willing to bet there's some sort of practice mode where you could learn the songs. To answer your last question though, there are several PS2 games that can be played without assistance. I recommend you visit my web site: http://www.brandoncole.net and click on the gaming section. You can find demonstrations of games we can play, audio samples, and reviews. My only warning is that several spambots have taken it upon themselves to attack the script I use for my articles and reviews, so you'll have to ignore those. I appologize for them, and I'll delete them as soon as I see them, but sometimes somebody stumbles upon them. Kind of embarrassing, really, given the things they advertise. Anyway, enjoy the site, and I hope it helps you find what you're looking for. - Original Message - From: nicol [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Audyssey Blind gaming Gamers discussion list Gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Saturday, January 13, 2007 2:02 AM Subject: [Audyssey] ps2 games HI all When I was on holiday I spent time with my brother and his children have a ps2 play station.
