Re: [Audyssey] sappy5 in vista?
Hi Jimmy, Unfortunately, when Microsoft released Sapi 5.3 which ships with Windows Vista the also officially dropped support for Microsoft Sam, Mary, and Mike on the Vista platform. The only voice that Microsoft officially now supports on Vista is Microsoft Anna. However, you can still purchase other Sapi 5.3 compatible voices such as the Scansoft voices that ships with Openbook 8 and Jaws 9, or purchase some of the voices from Cepstral. If you absolutely must have Microsoft Sam, Mary, and mike I have heard there is a way to get them working under Vista, but there is a real risk of damaging your Sapi 5 speech system in the process. So what I am about to suggest might work for you and it might not. You do it soully at your own risk. In short, if you want to support the older Sapi voices like microsoft Sam Vista needs to be downgraded back to Microsoft Sapi 5.1. Since Vista's speech recognition and other Speech services were not developed with 5.1 in mind doing so can seriously break things and crash speech services. However, you can download (SpeechSDK51MSM.exe). which contains all of the Microsoft Sapi voices available for Windows XP from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5e86ec97-40a7-453f-b0ee-6583171b4530displaylang=en and install it. Like I said it might work, and it might just explode in your face. I haven't quite had the guts to try it myself. Cheers. Jimmy Odin Kristoffersen wrote: Hi All. The only voice in sappy5 who wurks in vista, is anna, and i hardly cant understand her. Enny ideas what to do about it? Thanks. If you have the later versions of jaws that come with the real speak voices, then Mike Mary and Sam are in there and they work fine with Vista. Along with other voices. Or if you know someone that has the realspeak voices cd just install them and you'll have them as well if they let you borrow it. Re: [Audyssey] sappy5 in vista?
Hi May, Thanks for this information. I wasn't aware Freedom Scientific made a special installation for the older Sapi 5.x voices for 2000/XP/Vista. That is good to know. I've recently updated to Openbook 8.0, and I'll see if the Realspeak disk has the Sapi 5.x voices on it. It should if Openbook 8 is shipping with the same version of the voices as the newest versions of JFW.
