Re: [Audyssey] sarah versus pack man

2009-08-28 Thread Louise Keel

Hi, everyone.

Well, it would be a boring world if we were all the same, but I have to say,
I couldn't disagree more with this last Email, not in a nasty way, you
understand, just I find Packman fun to play, whereas I didn't even go for
the full versionof Sarah, because... well, let's take it from the top.

Ok, first off, it's not often I buy games because, like a lot of us, I live
on a limited income and have four places to put every cent. But I'd heard so
much about Packman and Sarah, wel, I went for the demo of Sarah first. Now,
in the freebie maze games I've tried, I've always been hopeless. I have no
talent for holding the inside of a maze in my head, and no braille display
to read a map. So, with Sarah, I spent a lot of time hearing ug! who put
that wall there? and walking around and around in circles. When something
did happen, there were so many key strokes that I couldn't remember what to
do where. Now ok, it could well be argued that I only had the demo, and
didn't give the game a chance. I played the demo a lot, let me tell you, and
the more I plyaed, the more frustrated I got at it. I just. didn't. get it!

So, we come to packman. packman, ok, when it comes to clearing levels, I'm
not much better at it, you could say, but my score is going up. I don't walk
around and around in circles all the time, well, I do it less, shall we say!
In all the time I played Sarah till I ran out of patience with it, I found
precisely two sweets. I've lost count of the super power pills I've found.
yes, you have to watch out for the ghosts, they can jump out of nowhere, and
they're hard to get away from, but I find if I keep my ears open I'm getting
better at avoiding them. I'm not saying I'm right and everyone else is wrog
here, just putting a different point of view. Sure, the sound in Sarah, and
the voices, just amazing. But I love to play Packman, and it's still on my
puter, which, in the end, is what counts, ain't it! grin!

Best to everyone, and a nice weekend to all.

Lulu.

Now faith, hope, love abide, these three. But the greatest of these is love.

Subject: [Audyssey] sarah versus pack man

Hi all
I realize that phil has done a great job on both games mentioned in the
subject line.
I just wish to tell ya all that I nowadays enjoy sarah more than pack man.
Pack man tends to stress me these days.
The ghosts appears just suddenly out of no where, so the player can
easily

lose all his lives.
On the contrary, sarah is a much calmer game.
Although there are certain puzzles and although the player can lose the
game

by being captured by the caretaker and killed by a bugger/dementor, the
sarah game is much calmer.
If a ghost touches sarah, all she loses is a bit of magical energy.
And that, she can easily get back in many ways.
Obtaining magical items such as brooms etc. can give her energy.
By Eating sweets and food.
And scaring ghosts with her patronous.
Another way in which sarah stands out above pack man.
In pack man the player have to go to an alcove to get super power and
faces

the risk to get killed by a ghost in the process.
And there is only 4 super power pills.
In sarah, the player can just hit e and he/she can scare the ghosts for
some time.
And also in sarah the player can obtain many patronoses in wands picked
up.

Whereas in pack man, the player is limited to only 4 super power pills per
level.
Also, in sarah, the first patronoses last shorter than the latter ones,
when

she acquire better wands.
This is contrary to pack man where super power lasts longer in lower
levels

and gets shorter as the player progresses.
In the sarah game, the player can just hit a and instantly appear in the
broom cupboard, although the player is limited in aparation spells.
on the contrary, the player have to find the safe place in the pack man
game

and again, facing the risk of being touched by a ghost and lose a life in
the process.
One last thing I want to point out.
The ghosts in the sarah game speaks meaningful phrases, taken from the
harry

potter books.
The ghosts in pack man: all they can say is.
Go now, go now, go now.
Or
Leave now, leave now.
Or
Winky wants you to go.
I sincerely wishes phil,if he gets time for it, can develop an ms pack
man

where the pack man character can also aparate like sarah and also hit e to
get super power.
And it will be nice to have peeves, nick, murtle and professor bins in the
pack man game than pinky, inky, winky and clide which can get quite
monotonous.

Re: [Audyssey] sarah versus pack man

2009-08-28 Thread Charles Rivard
They are totally different games, as one is an exploration and puzzle
solving game based on a series of books, and the other is a remake of an
arcade game. The flow of each game is different. The movement is
different. While Sarah evolved from what was to be a Packman sequel, I
would not even put it in the same category. If you put a lot of the same
features into a Packman sequel that are now in Sarah, what would be the
point of Sarah anymore, as the two games would be so similar?

Re: [Audyssey] sarah versus pack man

2009-08-28 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Louise,
I think the main problem is that the left and right arrow keys work
differently in the two games.
In pacman you hit the right arrow key and the game waits for the opening to
arrive then turns you right.

If you did this in Sarah you would hit a wall.
The key to use for automatic turning is control right arrow and control left
arrow in the Sarah game.
I made this change as in Sarah you not only have halls to walk in but many
more rooms and you need the slight adjustment of the arrow key to aim at and
pick up an object in a room.

If you wish to switch the key to that of the Pacman game, there is a way to
do it that is described in the instructions.

Phil
