Re: [Audyssey] super liam versus danger city
Hi Peter, Yeah, some of the functions for using DirectX also have long names that you need to use. I mostly copy and paste stuff like that. I guess that part of my keeping variable names short is to keep down the amount of typing as well as the length of the programming lines. I don't like lines of code that are so long that they are on more than one line. I also like to save time and work by having a starter kit that I use to start all new games with. You know it just has all of the code for things that I use in all games. But like I said I also copy and paste allot of code from past projects. Maybe some people create a dll library to do the same, but I often find that I need to make little changes to the code to fit the specific project. Any who, have fun with programming your current project. BFN Jim Might as well face it, you're addicted to code... j...@kitchensinc.net http://www.kitchensinc.net (440) 286-6920 Chardon Ohio USA --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. The biggest problem was he designed this graphical level editor to draw levels for the game which wasn't accessible in any way, shape, or form. Plus I had already heard at that time that with Vista coming out Visual Basic 6 was soon to become unsupported. I felt the game needed to be rewritten from scratch to fix both issues. Re: [Audyssey] super liam versus danger city
Hi Thomas, Yes, I would hate to be the person that is trying to analyze my code and figure out my thought processes. grin I do need to declare some variables, such as Public ones, and things like Public speed as double And from some version of Basic I am still in the habit of putting a dollar sign at the end of string variables. So all of my games have a g string. Such as the line of code from Key Down g$ = KeyCode But otherwise I like to just be able to use variables on the fly. Needing to go back and declare one every time that I need one breaks up my train of thought for the code that I am writing. I'm sure that allot of my coding style is so non standard because I am just self taught. BFN Jim Init string?!? No, looks like an old rope to me. j...@kitchensinc.net http://www.kitchensinc.net (440) 286-6920 Chardon Ohio USA --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] super liam versus danger city
The landmines play in sync with one another. This makes it difficult to distinguish individual landmines especially when they are placed as close together as they are in level 1 act 3. Perhaps staggering some of the mine sounds (or jumping to a different position) would make it more apparent that there are actually lots of mines within a small area. Re: [Audyssey] super liam versus danger city
HI Damien, Smile. Oh, that is always a pain. I hate it when programmers use a variable like tdg as it means nothing to the developer taking over the project. You would think developer's would try to make his or her code as readable as possible. I always try to do so for myself as well as others. It is always safer to make a variable called AceOfHearts rather than called aoh. At least the former makes sense immediately where the later doesn't mean anything initially. Damien C. Although I like the sound of the land mines its much more difficult to jump over a land mine in ddanger city than it is to jump over obstacles in super liam. And the game gives me enough time to complete the escape levels such as the volcano and water escape. Thus super liam is light years easier and more comfortable than danger city. Well done liam. Re: [Audyssey] super liam versus danger city
Hi, I tend to use shorthand variables like pd and ct, but I write a variable/function index that I or others can refer back to when working with it again. Saying that though, I have recently started learning C++, so I shouldn't need to do that once I've grasped all the concepts I need for my new adventure (excuse the pun *smile*). Thanks. Re: [Audyssey] super liam versus danger city
Hi Thomas, It's a good thing that I do not plan for anyone to take over my projects. When I started learning to program on my Texas Instruments 99 4A, you could only use 1 or 2 letter variables. I for the most part still have the habit of keeping my variable names short, thus they would not mean much to anyone else looking at my code. The only thing that I can say, is that I have never had any trouble getting back into any code that I have written. Oh yeah, I also do not use the VB6 option explicit, thus do not even declare my variables in the beginning of my project. Guess it's a good thing that I do not work for anyone writing the code or as I said plan for anyone else to ever use the code. BFN Jim I had my head examined. They didn't find *anything*! j...@kitchensinc.net http://www.kitchensinc.net (440) 286-6920 Chardon Ohio USA --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] super liam versus danger city
Hi Charles, Yes, he did. He gave me lots of documentation as far as program outlines, his notes, etc. I also found James North to be a fairly decent Visual Basic programmer. I think my only complaint was that he was using Visual Basic 6 instead of Visual Basic .NET, and the fact he created this graphical level editor that was completely unaccessible. Thus requiring me to rewrite the project in any case. Charles Rivard wrote: Or supply accurate and detailed documentation of the code used? Re: [Audyssey] super liam versus danger city
Hi Bryan, Well, like I said James North's code was fairly easy to read and understand. Plus he gave me a lot of documentation on Montezuma's Revenge which helped. Then when I was almost ready to release Montezuma's Revenge I got sacked with a cease and desist letter regarding the Montezuma's Revenge copyright. One of those cases where if I didn't have bad luck I'd have no luck at all. Bryan Peterson wrote: I rather suspect that if he had then Thomas might not have had nearly so many headaches with it as he has. I wouldn't have wanted to be saddled with that kind of mess, especially of this was my first programming endeavour. It'd be more than a little disheartening. Re: [Audyssey] super liam versus danger city
All right! All right! Let me rephrase. Level2 does not exist, but once you complete act3 of level1 you hear the intro to level2. In other words, you hear the game character walking in water and then you hear an elderly man speaking to the game character and then you hear a car passing by. Then the synth voice says:intro level2 act1 and then the program exits. That is what I meant. -Original Message- From: gamers-boun...@audyssey.org [mailto:gamers-boun...@audyssey.org] On Behalf Of Charles Rivard Sent: 06 August 2009 01:14 AM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: Re: [Audyssey] super liam versus danger city I don't understand your meaning when you state: I heard the intro to level2 which does not exist, although I have not played the game. Like in super liam, each level in danger city also comprises of acts. This demo I downloaded from damion's server is only the first level, but when reading super liam's manual I noticed the similarity between danger city And super liam. another similarity is that you jump across mines in danger city like you would jump across obstacles in super liam. I don't know if there is a dug feature in danger city with down arrow, but in this demo version there's nothing to dug.
