Hi,
Just saying, there are other clients for win7. since I've not used anything
other than win10 yet, I can't comment on what people should use. But, I'm using
a windows male of some sort, and as I say, am on windows 10.

I have win10 and do not use edge i use firefox and chrome and
thunderbird. and internet explorer is still there under accessories if i
want it or i can put it on the desktop. and win10 is also faster than
win7. i gave it a win7 style start menu with the free classic shell at
classicshell.net . turn off cortana and stuff you may not want or need
and you have a faster win7 but nice and up to date. i never use cortana
i have my android phone to talk to that is enough for me. got latest
NVDA and latest jaws on here as well. both work great.

Re: [Audyssey] windows xp, was Re: VGStorm Presents Manamon, a new fully featured RPG!

2016-07-22 Thread Charles Rivard
When I finally scraped enough money together to buy a refurbished Windows 7
desktop PC, I was having huge problems with the eMail client that was on it,
so I called the help desk for the visually impaired. I was immediately told
that Windows Live Mail was no longer being supported. I told the tech that,
while this is nothing against you personally, your company's policies of no
longer supporting their software is the biggest boatloat of unnecessary crap
that I have encountered. I've had a machine for 4 days and you don't
support the software? He suggested that I migrate to Windows 10. I let him
know that until Microsoft made the Edge browser and the eMail client that
comes with it accessible, I was not interested. I feel that it is not up to
a third party screen reader developer to make the operating system usable.
It is up to the operating system developer. I feel more strongly against
Microsoft than you do, and have felt this way for a long time.

Re: [Audyssey] windows xp, was Re: VGStorm Presents Manamon, a new fully featured RPG!

2016-07-22 Thread Jody McKinniss
Dark,
1. Downloads do not complete: Perhaps contacting your ISP to have
tests run on the signal quality reaching your home would be a good
thing. I remember that when I had a similar issue, there was
equipment on the outside of my home that needed replacing. Also, if
you are using wireless to connect, try using at least cat5 Ethernet
cable and directly connecting your pc. Run your computer directly
from the modem to the PC. Do not use routers or switches for this
test. If your downloads are successful, then it is likely a wireless
connectivity issue.
2. Folders do not display correctly: What do you mean, they do not
display correctly? In what way are they incorrect? What is it that
you're seeing that you shouldn't, or not seeing that you should? I
used windows 7 for years, and folders worked just fine for me.
Remember also that the look and feel of your folders can be changed in
folder options.
3. Outlook sucks: I actually used Outlook for many years with Win 7,
but if you want outlook express, then install it. Personally I found
that the commands were mostly the same, so I didn't need it.
As I stated yesterday, Windows 7 was Microsoft's best operating system
at the time of its completion. Any issues you're having I suspect
fall into 3 categories: Possible hardware issues, possible equipment
issues from your ISP, and user unfamiliarity with the operating
system. I'll try to help you as best I can, but I'm going to need
more info than just "folders don't display right."

I have seen 2 vista hp units do that due to faulty designs in the units.

At Dark,

No idea what you mean by Windows 7 being buggy, it is far more stable
than XP ever was.

I liked Windows XP back in the day, but by the time 7 came out, it was
showing its age.

And no, even using older developer kits, software developers are under
no obligation to support computers using dead (and that is what
Windows XP is, dead) operating systems. Again, if you want to use it,
I do not begrudge you that, but just keep this fact in mind.

Also, curiosity compels me to ask, but what are you working on a doctorate
in?

I probably will get a windows 10 machine later this year when my thesis is
finished and I can risk being without a version of ms office for formatting.
I don't suppose that is any better than 7 but if I must have crap at least I
can have the latest crap, which is after all microsoft's philosophy.
I'm just disappointed that a development system created on xp which already
supports xp has been made not to in the case of Aaron's games.

Ha win 7 runs fine. I still don't get what bugs you speak of. Windows
8 may have had some issues but nothing that made it unusable

If someone wishes to continue to use Windows XP; then that is fine. On
the other hand, they have no right to complain when current software,
e.g. games, will not function on their machine.

Re: [Audyssey] windows xp, was Re: VGStorm Presents Manamon, a new fully featured RPG!

2016-07-21 Thread Jody McKinniss
John,
Wow. I never once said that anyone was an idiot. I am merely
pointing out the advantages to an upgrade that some might be
overlooking. I'm not suggesting that anyone trash their XP machine
necessarily. I am merely suggesting that if they wish for the newer
games that are in development or have been released to work, perhaps
they should consider an upgrade in lieu of expecting the developer to
go out of their way to add backward compatibility for an operating
system that even the maker of doesn't support anymore. And they might
want to think about the fact that Certain features that can be
implemented due to current standards in hardware and OS, ones that
make the game what it is in terms of audio or controls, may not be
available in XP. I have no problem with a person that wants to keep
XP around for older things. My only concern is a willingness to
summarily dismiss the idea that an upgrade mi9ght benefit them out of
hand without knowing the facts. And just as a side note to you, no
matter how "ridiculous," you think this debate is, it's
constitutionally protected.
