The more I think about it, the more I understand why the Sun picked the 05'-06 Gator Basketball team as the number one choice.
While we all tend to love Football more, and that first MNC was special, The Gators were ranked through that whole season, even pre-season #1, I think. The basketball team, on the other hand, couldn't have flown any lower under the radar. With Walsh and Roberson leaving early for the NBA, them being something like 70% of the previous season's scoring, a group of mostly unheralded sophomores, who in their right mind saw the season that was to come? Unranked preseason to go all the way to Champions, beating the storied UCLA program in the final game - not just beating them, but humiliating them. Granted, the '96 team also humiliated their foe, our hated rival, but I'm now leaning toward the basketball '04's as being the best Gator team of any ever assembled.
