PUNE: In a rare initiative in the country, a pharmacy for the HIV- positive in the city, to be run by the people who are HIV-positive, was launched here on Monday by a pharmaceutical company. Called Taal, the pharmacy, located on Laxmi road in the Nana Peth area, will initially provide anti-retroviral (ARV) drugs for adults as well as the infected paediatric population registered with the Network of Maharashtra by People Living with HIV/AIDS (NMP+). It was inaugurated by Bollywood actor Nana Patekar. Established by Emcure Pharmaceuticals as part of its corporate social responsibility, its director (operations), A.K. Khanna, said Taal has been established in co-ordination with NMP+, Network of Positive People living with HIV/AIDS (INP+) and technical support from the Human Development Resource Network (a non-profit making organisation supported by the UNDP regional HIV and development programme.
