Reading several notes about gay life in Montreal (Canada itself) I perceived as bad vibes between Canada and USA, will you? Instead of saying what they have, they compared with USA all the time, in Montreal the things are much better. Anyway, at least appear to be quite liberal, as there are shows that male strippers get completely naked and you can have sex on the premises. Plus they were almost pioneers of equal marriage.
