The `Rip-off for Teetotallers' debate that I had initiated is long dead and gone. However I wish put on record my personal response to the various points of view made by my fellow Group members. My professional occupation hardly renders me anytime to respond individually to every mail the discussion thread. This is the earliest I could get down to putting in a mail. With all I humility I would like concede that being a member of the Organising Group, I blindly approved the deal that GB had made with the host establishment Karma. Being not aware of what the deal was apart from the Rs. 1500/- cover charge. I landed at the venue trusting that my cribbing for the whole of last year for a fair deal for teetotallers would have made my fellow organisers make sure that they don't give me a reason to crib again. Without taking any responsibility for my actions I threw my fury at all of you, a sorry thing to happen at the end of a fabulous party, another GB "success" story. Yes, its all my fault and I apologise for that. However does a majority decision that is unfair for minority make a majority decision fair? Teetotaller gaymen who are a minority within a larger minority of gays, seem to be at the receiving end of the same attitude as that of the straights towards the gays. The decision was discussed everyone over the mailing list. How representative is the mailing list of the true GB Party Patronage? GB's focus as I understand was to create a space "a safe space" for all sections of the gay community. However the party tariff created a situation, though unintentional, divided the community on grounds of not affordability but unreasonable disparity in value for money. The teetotallers have to shell out more for the same space. The 2005 New Year Eve Party had an attendance 550 and another 50-60 who were denied entry due to lack of space at the venue. Humsafar Drop-in Centre too had its own party at Madh Island, which had a 300 odd attendance. If this year there was no option available, what does an attendance of less that 450 speak for itself? Where did the GB Party patronage go? Haven't we lost them to something like an unfair tariff? A successful party certainly in terms of operations but is it terms of patronage .???? I guess my fellow organisers got carried away in getting an unlimited booze deal. But I am told that most people who consume alcoholic beverages are moderate drinkers. Than what's the need of ordering a tap flowing with booze? The only demand I would have for future parties is to have juices available against one coupon((valued at Rs. 50/-) and not two. Anyway, this is an debate that can go back and forth. Lets agree to disagree and close the debate here.
