MMS porn racket busted in Mumbai Nafisa Islam CNN-IBN Updated 0811 hrs IST (+GMT 5:30), 07.01.06 Email Print Mumbai: Mumbai police have arrested 22 people and claims to have busted a huge MMS pornography racket.
Police say they caught the men when they went posing as decoy customers to five shops in the city's Indraprasth shopping mall. Pornographic material worth Rs 2.5 lakh along with eight mobile phones, seven computers, eight memory cards and seven CD writers were confiscated in the raid. "They would transfer materials from the computers to the mobiles," deputy commissioner of police Dattatray Karale said. The police say that pornographic material is a hot favourites and is sold at prices ranging from Rs 100 to a Rs 1000 a clip, depending on the freshness and content of the clippings. "These men have been charged under two cases under the IPC Act, Information Technology Act and Copyright Act," Karale added. Authorities are still investigating the root of this racket. They are not sure if it was being opertaed by a private agency or if these people were just downloading from the internet. Of the 22 people held, five are employers and although the police claims most of the customers are youngsters, they have not been able to trace anyone who used to buy the pornographic clips.
