--- Comment #1 from Michael_S <already5chosen at yahoo dot com> --- I did a little more research and found out that it is relatively recent regression introduced in gcc version 4.9.2 (Altera 15.1 Build 185). gcc version 4.8.3 20140320 (prerelease) (Altera 14.1 Build 186) still generates good code.
