I have no comments about the git repository, but, with a project with
participants possibly from around the world, one hour is not very much time
 to react.

(Yes, I know that the test repository has been available longer than that, I
just think it's something you need to consider in general (as the new
Geany--well, whatever you are now--the official maintainer?).)

You are right, and luckily I know it :) However, when I said anybody
I meant Enrico, Jiří, Frank, etc., all I know were online or not far at
the moment, as Enrico noted. I didn't think anybody else would have had
something specific to say about the repository, and I didn't wanted to
wait one more 24h to push the repo online.

I'm sorry if it sounded rude, sorry.

Regards,
Colomban

Yeah, I have my .gitignore too. Anyway, I don't plan to make any
real commits during the conversion so it's easier to verify the
sources are in the same state as before (on the other hand, this could
really speed up the merging of my patches; I'm starting considering it
;-). I'd suggest it should be handled as an ordinary patch by the
 maintainers after the conversion.

Speaking of which, would you be so kind to bring your patches in sync with
svn head? I had major headaches trying to do it myself yesterday.

I've moved all my repositories from Gitorious to GitHub (It was real
pain to delete all the repositories from Gitorious because it kept
ending with errors. I had to try several times to succeed. GitHub was
clearly a better option as a host for Geany's repository.) My
up-to-date fork with patches is here now:

[Geany-devel] ANN: Geany switched to Git

2011-10-10 Thread Colomban Wendling
We're happy to announce Geany just switched from Subversion to Git as
the Version Control System used for source code management. The primary
source repository also moved from SourceForge to GitHub [1].

We think and hope this will make future development easier for everybody
and improve collaboration with the community.

The new Git repository can be found here :
http://github.com/geany/geany. Of course the mirror on geany.org [2] is
still available and now mirrors the official Git repository as well as
does the repo.or.cz mirror [3]. You can follow the updated instructions
on the Git page [4] to clone the new repository or fork it on GitHub [5].

A backup of the old SVN repository can still be found at
http://download.geany.org/svn_backup/geany/ for anybody interested.

Finally, we'd like to thank Jiří Techet for the wonderful work he did on
converting the SVN repository to Git, and Matthew Brush for the great
help on setting up the GitHub repository. Thank you guys!

Best regards,
Colomban

Man, give this man commit access already!

You've done so much invaluable work for this project, you well
 deserved it.

I agree, I support Matthew joining the core team.

I second this if he wants to :) So Matthew, do you want to become core
developer ?

I was told Dominic maintains this task now.

It's not my servers, so I'm not able to decide this. Pinging me on IRC
(dmaphy) or Jabber (dma...@jabber.org) maybe is an alternative for that,
even if no very good alternative.

However, Dominic's scripts probably can run on another server as well,
maybe even on SF's shell servers. Or the whole construct of generating
those pages can be reworked to be more obvious, easier to test and
 so easier to improve.

First thing which wasn't that obvious for someone outstanding is, that
the whole stuff is actually under version control since it's birth, the
directory just needed to be checked out:

https://geany-plugins.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/geany-plugins/www/staging

I guess there weren't that much people who actually knew that. Maybe
this one is easier to find:

https://github.com/dmaphy/plugins.geany.org

Improvement to that script-bundle are welcome anytime.

About reworking the whole concept:

I'd personally love the idea of the GitHub pages stuff, we maybe could
do something on basis of that. There also were some nice ideas on IRC a
few minutes ago which you guys maybe like to discuss here.

My suggestion is to start a rework with or after the Geany-Plugins 0.21
release.

Dominic
