OCTOBER 16, 2020

Hundreds of students defied the rain on Friday as they conducted a peace
protest against the recently-adopted job creation law, demanding that the
law be abolished.

Claiming to represent the National Association of University Students’
Executive Board (BEM), the protesters gathered in front of Arjuna Wiwaha
statue in Central Jakarta to voice their demand amid heavy presence of riot
police.

The Jakarta Police installed barbed wires and deployed armor vehicles
around the scene. Heavy rain didn’t stop the rally, as students wore
plastic raincoats and put up cardboard tarpaulin to take shelter.

They called on President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo to have a dialogue with them
and uphold democratic values. The rally went without incident and students
made friendly gestures to police officers who were seen taking shelter
under a pedestrian bridge as they left the scene.
