[jira] Assigned: (GUMP-34) Upgrade JDK on lsd to java 1.4.2_04

2004-03-16 Thread jira
Message:

The following issue has been re-assigned.

   Assignee: Leo Simons (mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED])
-
View the issue:
  http://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/ViewIssue.jspa?key=GUMP-34

Here is an overview of the issue:
-
Key: GUMP-34
Summary: Upgrade JDK on lsd to java 1.4.2_04
   Type: Task

 Status: Open
   Priority: Minor

Project: Gump

   Assignee: Leo Simons
   Reporter: Antoine Levy-Lambert

Created: Mon, 15 Mar 2004 11:09 PM
Updated: Tue, 16 Mar 2004 2:42 AM
Environment: Gump [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Description:
The build of xml-xerces1 is currently failing due to Unicode escapes present in
javadoc comments.
I am quoting Michael Glavassevich :

http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.jakarta.gump/4990

I understand that this was a compiler bug [1] which was recently fixed in JDK 1.4.2_04
[2]. Whomever's responsible for the environment on lsd may want to upgrade the JDK.

[1] http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4863451.html
[2] http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/ReleaseNotes.html

I have checked that JDK 1.4.2_04 fixes the problem. So we should go for it.

These are just the ones that don't have a nag entry, so don't have anywhere
to be sent -- hence they return to the Gumpmeisters.

I believe Nicola has plans for javasrc.

Re: Board report

2004-03-16 Thread Adam R. B. Jack
I'd like to try authoring the board report together and have started
with my thoughts for next week's meeting in the wiki[1]. Please go
ahead and modify/add to your liking.

Sorry I failed to help you out with this, the recent flurries of activity
made this slide down in my mailbox too far.

I liked your report, especially how you mentioned community interactions
before coding, that is key. I think TLP status, and the activity generated
by folks here, has noticeably improved Gump visibility helped our social
goal of folks caring if they Gump properly. That is an awesome step forward,
which I hope continues...

Ongoing, I think the Peas-n-Carrots work that Nick has been leading is the
most useful 'report' so far. We've been letting the little successes slip
by, undocumented, and I love how this blog has raised awareness to the good
Gump does. Much as it is tricky to be a dispassionate/factual/tactful
reporter, and it'll take help from us all to achieve this, I really
appreciate what Nick's been doing here. Perhaps the next board report can
reference PC, and how it is an intrigal part of Gump's feedback loop.

BTW: Gumpy ought support Maven right now, we just need to work up the stack
(from few depencencies) since the 'artifact ids' (jar id=) needs to be
in sync. If it'd help Avaloners we could try doing their build with Maven.

regards,

Adam

Change the wording to The following projects had failures but I don't
know who to notify.

I looked at the code, to modify it but it was unclear which line was for
unwanted and which was for unsent.

I believe Nicola has plans for javasrc.

Re: [GUMP@tsws1]: package1/package1 failed

2004-03-16 Thread Adam R. B. Jack
I guess I need to take the nag/ out of the test workspace. I added it (and
the functionality) to try to do what Stefan wanted that traditional does,
i.e.

   workspace

nag to=xxx from=yyy

overrides the nag info on module (gumpy allows it here) or project.

I believe we were hoping for a 'gump' group, but I'm game to let admins

Something along the lines of:

mkdir

2004-03-16 Thread Adam R. B. Jack
I removed what I thought was a hack today, I removed the check for directory
existence from before a mkdir, assuming a working sync would have cleaned
the directory. I assumed that no mkdir would be in existence if the
directory was in CVS|SVN. I was wrong (see below).

So, what to do? Do we go strict or loose?

Avalon-Logging, is it to go away or not? I thought I noticed some comment
to that effect, and anyway -- the CVS checkout failed. If going away, we
ought tell folks like commons-logging. If I oughtn't have added it, let's
 delete the project/avalon-logger.xml file.

Avalon as a Gump project doesn't exist, and should be removed.

Avalon Framework is what people probably mean, and is the foundation we will
build on top of.

Avalon-Logging is replacing Excalibur Logging, and is the package that is used
inside Avalon Merlin, the now decided Single Platform from Avalon.

Merlin will only depend on (sooner or later) avalon-framework, avalon-logging,
avalon-meta, avalon-repository and various avalon-util, plus external stuff.

Excalibur is going to be terminated, once we have polished it up to a final
nice state. I am planning (provided consenus can be reached) that commit
rights will be removed after that has been reached, so if someone want to
evolve it, they have to fork it to another place.

Fortress features that are desireable are going to be migrated to Merlin, and
then Fortress will go the same path as Excalibur, but will take much longer.

Cornerstone is going to be migrated into a nice state, that means
documentation, unittests and no dependencies on Excalibur. This will take
quite a while.

I hope this clarifies the evolutionary path that I see happening over the next
6 months or so.

No worries, basically it just lists the components
(modules/projects/repositories/etc.) to includes, whereas the workspace
lists the more machine-centric config (dirs) and the profile. As such, a
profile is more sharable than a workspace, and the main (public) shared one

Re: New software on moof (Re: Gump on moof)

We can relay through mail.opensource.apple.com, which is on the same
subnet. Postfix needs to be set up if we want delivery with
/usr/sbin/sendmail, etc. to work. If you just need an SMTP server,
mail.opensource.apple.com should do. I don't know what gump needs.

Gumpy uses Python's SMTP library, so we ought be able to just teach it this
server use default port. Thanks.

Don't I need to add module to all the project/avalon-*.xml files as

 well?

Sorry, that is what I did when I said I added it:

 !-- Apache.Avalon --
 module href=project/avalon-components.xml/
 module href=project/avalon-excalibur.xml/
 module href=project/avalon-fortress-container.xml/
 module href=project/avalon-fortress-examples.xml/

 module href=project/avalon-logkit.xml/
 module href=project/avalon-meta.xml/
 module href=project/avalon-phoenix.xml/
 module href=project/avalon-sandbox.xml/
 module href=project/avalon-site.xml/

  If so, is

  module name=avalon/framework

Not quite, needs the .xml -- and it is href (misnomer) not name. The href
is followed, and the real module (with name) imported/merged in.

Oops, now break-down in communications or my brain. I prefer the former...

I was talking about inside the project/avalon-*.xml files, which the above
module entries in profile/ seem to reference, and many of them have, but
not avalon-framework for instance.
