list and communicated to me off list their willingness to be mentors.
So hopefully that is resolved as well.

I am concerned that none of the proposed mentors were Incubator PMC
members at the time of the proposal. I believe Alan Gates is now joining
the Incubator PMC, which is great. However, I'd like to see mentorship
resolved before we proceed.

The committers and mentors (as listed in the original proposal) have
voted for hcatalog as the new name. Web searches I did did not turn
up any conflicts with this name.
Assuming no one is aware of any naming conflicts, what's our next
step? Do we just need Alex to rescind his -1 vote?
Since the only issue raised during voting was the naming problem, now
resolved, I'd say call the vote a success and get on with it.

It's going to be a slap in the face of the OW guys if we let it fly.
I don't know if it matters in these, er, matters, but the OW in HOWL stands
for their trademarked name.
In any event, the community has agreed to change the name, so let's put this
to bed and move on.

I agree we shouldn't move forward until we've come to an agreement on
the naming issue. I have no desire to start this project off with
this hanging over it. I have continued this thread on legal-discuss,
giving more context to hopefully get the best possible input there. I

Some context here for you. Howl is a project that was recently accepted to

There as well existed an open source project called Howl in 2005 or so
which implemented Zeroconf (Apple calls the commercial incarnation
Bonjour).

I think there's agreement in the community of the project formerly
known as Howl that we need to change the name as part of starting out
in the Incubator. We're discussing alternatives and will propose
something, hopefully with clear IP, soon.

We are taking it seriously. We (Howl mentors and committers)
discussed this and the consensus seemed to be we wanted to stay with
the name if possible. The feedback on this list was mixed, with many
for changing it and some not worried about it. So we wanted to stick
with it for now and

What about the naming conflict with Howl from ObjectWeb
[0]http://howl.ow2.org/?
Anyone address this serious issue yet? I pointed this out a while back and
frankly am shocked not to see this resolved.
HOWL has been around long before this project: 6 years

So you're
1- If there are still some people in the initial committers list with
no filed ICLA then you should start the process [1].
2- Mentors should start initiating the podling process steps [2].

With 9 binding +1 votes and no -1s, the vote passes. I'll take the
naming issue back to the Howl contributors to discuss what we want to
do about it.
What's the next step now?

Change the name, before or after starting incubation. I can suggest to
you it's easier to change the name before starting.

The naming conflict was discussed but it doesn't seem resolved to me -
even just in this vote thread there's a bunch of people bringing it up
again. I'd guess thats just going to continue while the name is kept,
