Podling report formatting

2020-03-04 Thread Justin Mclean
Hi,

Some podlings (BCCed) are not formatting the reports correctly. Please do not
remove or change the existing formatting when editing your report in the
incubator report.

In particular do not change the formatting of the sign-off area, we have tools
that work off this and they depend on it being in a particular format.

As noted at the top of the page it's also best to:
• Do not change existing formatting.
• Keep all lines under 76 characters long.
• All content under the ### headings should be indented by two spaces. Do not
use tabs.
• Please don't change the text in the headings or add new ones.
• Include a space after a bullet point or full stop on a numbered list.
• Use [X] (X and no spaces) to sign off reports.
• Do not include long URLs and use apache URL shortener https://s.apache.org.

Thanks,
Justin

P.S Thanks goes to Daffodil for a perfectly formatted report.

[VOTE] Release Apache ShardingSphere (Incubating) 4.0.1

2020-03-04 Thread zhaojun
Hello all,

This is a call for vote to release Apache ShardingSphere (Incubating) version
4.0.1.

The Apache ShardingSphere community has voted on and approved a proposal to
release
Apache ShardingSphere (Incubating) version 4.0.1.

We now kindly request the Incubator PMC members review and vote on this
incubator release.

ShardingSphere is an open-source ecosystem consisted of a set of distributed
database middleware solutions, including 2 independent products, Sharding-JDBC
& Sharding-Proxy.
They both provide functions of data sharding, distributed transaction and
database orchestration, applicable in a variety of situations such as Java
isomorphism, heterogeneous language.
Aiming at reasonably making full use of the computation and storage capacity of
the database in a distributed system, ShardingSphere defines itself as a
middleware, rather than a totally new type of database.
As the cornerstone of many enterprises, relational database still takes a huge
market share.
Therefore, at the current stage, we prefer to focus on its increment instead of
a total overturn.

Sharding-JDBC defines itself as a lightweight Java framework that provides
extra service at Java JDBC layer.
With the client end connecting directly to the database, it provides service in
the form of jar and requires no extra deployment and dependence.
It can be considered as an enhanced JDBC driver, which is fully compatible with
JDBC and all kinds of ORM frameworks.

* Applicable in any ORM framework based on Java, such as JPA, Hibernate,
Mybatis, Spring JDBC Template or direct use of JDBC.
* Based on any third-party database connection pool, such as DBCP, C3P0,
BoneCP, Druid, HikariCP.
* Support any kind of database that conforms to JDBC standard: MySQL, Oracle,
SQLServer and PostgreSQL for now.

Sharding-Proxy defines itself as a transparent database proxy, providing a
database server that encapsulates database binary protocol to support
heterogeneous languages.
Friendlier to DBA, the MySQL/PostgreSQL version provided now can use any kind
of terminal (such as MySQL Command Client, MySQL Workbench, Navicat etc.) that
is compatible of MySQL/PostgreSQL protocol to operate data.

* Totally transparent to applications, it can be used directly as MySQL and
PostgreSQL.

* Applicable to any kind of terminal that is compatible with MySQL and
PostgreSQL protocol.

Re: [MENTORS] Podlings download pages with issues

2020-03-04 Thread Ovilia
Hi Justin,

Thanks for the check.

But I think ECharts do have links to the signatures and hashes.
It's probably because the content of the Webpage is dynamically generated
by JavaScript so that the Python code failed to find it.
Please check http://echarts.apache.org/en/download.html for more details.

Thanks

I am aborting this vote as it has been brought to my attention that I
failed to follow the proper process.

I will restart the vote within the developer mailing list for the project
and bring it to incubator general only after it passes.

My apologies for the noise.

Hi

Kevin should know the process, talk with your mentor more.

> Actually, we do not have enough mentors for our project and there is only
one member in our team who has open-source experiences.

This is a risk, but may not be a block :)

To be honest, only personally, I prefer you to build the community first
before starting to join the incubator, at least have a small user group
before this.
Open source and community development are a long term thing.
In the ASF incubator, you need to follow other ASF requirements, such as
how to talk(in mail list, in English), how to release, license requirement,
incubator report, website, branding issue, paperwork.
My preference comes from the reality for your team, I am afraid all these
together could make you too much pressure.

Hi Guochen,

It is not a prerequisite if the project has already established a good open
source community, but it is better usually.

A good open source community will help the project find champion and mentors
more easier and may reduce the incubation duration.

RE: [Consultation]Some questions about incubation steps

2020-03-04 Thread zhangguochen
Mr. Wu., thank you so much.

Actually, we do not have enough mentors for our project and there is only one
member in our team who has open-source experiences.

Kevin A. McGrail is a professor of ASF who help us a lot with the proposal and
it is also happy for us to let him be one of the mentor of this project.

We plan to propose our proposal to this mail list soon to see whether there are
mentors who are interested in our project.

Regards.
Guochen.

I think we haven't been to that place. If you need to keep the source codes
private as much as possible, then it is after the IPMC vote about accepting the
project as a new incubator project, and your company SGA and contributors' ICLA
filed by ASF.

My concerns are,
1. If there is no community already if there any proof that any of your team
has some open-source experiences, knowing how to build the community.
This is an important sign for a healthy project.
2. Do you have enough mentors(usually at least 3) from IPMC? You will need
their helps.

2020-03-04 Thread zhangguochen
Hi, Wu Sheng,

Thank you for your quick reply and kind help.

The source code of the HBlock project all comes from the contributions of
regular employees of our company.
There has been no open source project and no community of us before.

In addition, at what point do we have to open all the source code? When do we
need to sign any agreement with Apache / IPMC?

Hi, all,

I am a new man here. Nice to see you.

We are China Telecom Corporation Limited Cloud Computing Branch Corporation. We
hope to contribute one of our projects name 'HBlock' to Apache.
Now we hope to get into the incubation steps.

We have prepare a proposal for this project, and before we propose it to the
this mailing list, would you please let me know:
1. How long usually it takes from we propose it to the vote step?
2. During this process, do we need to provide any source code relate to the
project?
3. During this process, do we need to add more members of this project to this
mail list to answer questions from the incubator professors or only an
interface person is enough?

Best wishes.

Hi,

The new URL to use is https://downloads.apache.org. Currently there is a
redirect in place that should work but it would be be good to double check that
all is working

The following podling may need to update their download pages:
Crail
Daffodil
DolphinScheduler
Flagon
Gobblin
Hudi
IoTDB
Livy
Milagro
Pinot
PonyMail
ShardingSphere
Toree
Training
Tuweni
Weex

And there may be others I’ve not identified. If you are a mentor of one of
these projects please reach out and organise for this to be done.

Thanks,

www.a.o/dist/ has been set up as redirects. So (generally) there shouldn't
be a problem. Some automated scripts that don't understand redirects may
see issues. ... Infra has no intent to delete those redirects to there is
no "turned off" on the schedule.

Updating pages across podlings and TLPs are simply to avoid downstream
seeing redirects.

IMO That what threads are for, and IMO too many email here repeat stuff that’s
not needed. Why should people need to reread stuff they have already read?
Perhaps I use a different email client than you that makes context easier?

I guess given it's a recent change, not all projects projects are aware of it
or have made the changes yet. This change means most podling download pages
would need to change and I assume most TLP as well.

As /dist has been deprecated, do we have an estimated date when it will be
