Hi,

Dave I'm a bit surprised at your -1 given this guidelines have been discussed
before on several lists (including this one) and you’ve not had any objections
that I can recall. What is your main concern here?

*Disclaimer*

Apache DataSketches (incubating) is an effort undergoing incubation at
The Apache Software Foundation (ASF), sponsored by the Apache Incubator
PMC. Incubation is required of all newly accepted projects until a
further review indicates that the infrastructure, communications, and
decision making process have stabilized in a manner consistent with
other successful ASF projects. While incubation status is not
necessarily a reflection of the completeness or stability of the code,
it does indicate that the project has yet to be fully endorsed by the
ASF.

No, while that might also be the case, what I was saying is that a release must
be voted on by the IPMC.

A " non-Category-x license” was mentioned above so I don’t think this was about
inclusion of Category X. Given I can’t see a situation were the above situation
would arise I'm not 100% sure what the question is referring to.

How do you think it rewrites it? Nothing as far as I can see is added only
clarified and put into context for different 3rd party platforms. Legal helped
in making this original draft of this document and had no issues with it.

This lacks proper reference to existing Apache Policies and instead rewrites
it. I think that this is outside the Incubator’s remit.

Hi -

Big observation. I’m uncomfortable with the Incubator making Apache Policy
beyond adding DISCLAIMERs. Other Board and Operations VPs have been delegated
policy making. Yes, that is hard and unclear. Perhaps this proposal could
inform those discussions.

More inline.

For clarity, you mean that the dependencies included in a binary fit valid
classes of licenses with correct notices.

I think there is current discuss in legal about this. Please check the
legal-discuss@ archive.

Again discussion about this notion should be brought to legal-discuss@

Note that http://www.apache.org/foundation/marks/downstream.html
 is a draft policy and
represents the VP, Brands best understanding of current practices. PPMCs should
consider their project’s downstream and see if that fits this policy. If not
then it should be discussed at trademarks@

If there were a huge reason for a category X inclusion then that would require
changes in policy which are highly unlikely. One of the strengths of the ASF is
that are licensing is considered to be safe.

[VOTE] Release Apache Daffodil (incubating) 2.7.0-rc2

2020-07-06 Thread Mike Beckerle
The Apache Daffodil community has voted and approved the proposed
release of Apache Daffodil (incubating) 2.7.0-rc2.

We now kindly request the Incubator PMC members review and vote on this
incubator release.

Daffodil is an open source implementation of the DFDL specification that
uses DFDL schemas to parse fixed format data into an infoset, which is most
commonly represented as either XML or JSON. This allows the use of
well-established XML or JSON technologies and libraries to consume,
inspect, and manipulate fixed format data in existing solutions. Daffodil
is also capable of the reverse by serializing or "unparsing" an XML or JSON
infoset back to the original data format.

Hi,

+1 from me (binding, carrying over my vote).

I checked:

- Incubating in name
- DISCLAIMER exists
- LICENSE and NOTICE are fine
- No unexpected binary files
- Checked PGP signatures
- Checked Checksums
- Code compiles and tests successfully run

Kind Regards,
Furkan KAMACI
