Re: [VOTE] Heron Release 0.20.3-incubating Release Candidate 8

2020-12-07 Thread Justin Mclean
HI,

-1 (binding) due to license and notice issues

I checked:
- incubating in name
- LICENSE has issues (see below)
- NOTICE has wrong year
- DISCLAIMER exists (not WIP one)
- no unexpected binary files
- ASF files have ASF headers

I’m a little confused by the LICENSE file.

First off it uses URLs to link to the LICENSE text, the full license text often
needs to be included as part of the license conditions (from ALv2, MIT and BSD
style licenses so need to be included in the releases. While the URL are useful
they can break over time or worse the license change, you should point to the
license file in the licenses directory. Also part of the BSD and MIT licences
include a copyright line and this will vary with each bit of included code.

JSXTransformer is listed under the Apache 2.0, MIT, BSD 2 clause and BSD 3
clause licenses. It may be that this files include 3rd party code under
different licenses or the file itself is under multiple licenses. If it was
under multiple licenses you would generally select which one you want to use.
If not then each of those pieces of 3rd party code is likely to have its own
name and copyright holder (for MIT and BSD licenses) which need to be included
or pointed to by the LICENSE file.

LICENSE is also missing the license for the trykker font and may be missing
other things.

Thanks,
Justin

Re: [VOTE] Apache Gobblin 0.15.0 release RC2

2020-12-07 Thread Justin Mclean
Hi,

+1 (binding)

I checked:
- incubating in name
- LICENSE and NOTICE are fine
- DISCLAIMER exists
- No unexpected binary files in release
- All files have ASF headers
- I was not able to compile at first but managed to get (see below)

This is the error I get when building via ./gradlew build:
Deprecated Gradle features were used in this build, making it incompatible with
Gradle 5.0.
Use '--warning-mode all' to show the individual deprecation warnings.
See
https://docs.gradle.org/4.9/userguide/command_line_interface.html#sec:command_line_warnings

I got the jar (as instructed in the readme) from:

https://github.com/apache/incubator-gobblin/raw/0.12.0/gradle/wrapper/gradle-wrapper.jar

Should that 0.12.0 be 0.15.0? I tried changing it and it compiled, so might
best to update your readme instructions.

Thanks,
Justin

Hi,

I would suggest that you get in touch with someone from the Apache Pinot
team to get this coordinated. One of their PPMC or mentors should help get
this moving with Apache Infra to get resolved.

Someone needs to have "Admin" access to the repository. Most committers
just have "Write" access.

I would suggest filing an Issue at the repository stating these
requirements.

The source release candidate RC2 can be downloaded here:

The artifacts (i.e. JARs) corresponding to this release candidate can be
found here:

It is also listed here:

The release candidate has been tagged with release-0.15.0-rc2.
I've also created a branch 0.15.0-rc2.

AW: [DISCUSS] Wayang Proposal

2020-12-07 Thread Christofer Dutz
Hi Bernd,

I just didn't want to leave the impression, that "we're full". So if anyone
here would be interested in joining, he/she is more than welcome.

I know that 3 is enough, but I also have seen that when starting with 3 initial
mentors, usually 1 or 2 get lost some time after the incubation starts.

So I guess we'll start with the 3 we have and take care of finding new mentors
as needed, if needed.

Chris

If three mentors for Wayang are not enough (I'm one of them), how much would a
incubating project need?
