Re: Question about viability for incubation: BinEd Hexadecimal Editor

2021-11-03 Thread Jean-Baptiste Onofre
Hi Miroslav

The main question you have to ask yourself is about the potential community
around your project (user and dev communities).

So, the fact that your project is small or on a specific use case is not really
a problem if we can build a community around.
Incubation phase is a good place to build your community, grow your project
(code, feature, release).

Hi Kent Yao,

It looks interesting. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems to be more a SQL
gateway, more than a "server", meaning that the storage is delegated to Hive
and processing to Spark, right ?

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache Liminal (incubating) 0.0.2rc1-INCUBATING

2021-04-20 Thread Jean-Baptiste Onofre
Hi Justin,

I agree, with an updated DISCLAIMER, I guess we can move forward with 0.0.2
release.

However, we have to double check that chardet is not a "direct" dependency (it
seems to come from Airflow, but I didn’t actually check yet).

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache Liminal (incubating) 0.0.2rc1-INCUBATING

2021-04-20 Thread Jean-Baptiste Onofre
Hi Matt,

And that’s my point: chardet is not a direct Liminal dependency, but actually
an Airflow dependency.

So, I think that’s either Liminal can release "as it is" or Airflow should
address this dependency.

Re: [VOTE] Retire BlueMarlin project from Incubator

2021-03-16 Thread Jean-Baptiste Onofre
Hi,

Yes, the code donation has been done. It needs some polishing tasks, but it’s
there.

Now the two actions to do asap are:

1. Prepare a podling report for next month to share with the IPMC the progress
2. Cleanup code, check legal files, CI/CD heading to a first release

I’m busy this week but I will try to find time to help BlueMarlin team about
that.

Re: [VOTE] Retire BlueMarlin project from Incubator

2021-02-21 Thread Jean-Baptiste Onofre
No problem.

So, if not done, please subscribe to d...@bluemarlin.apache.org
<mailto:d...@bluemarlin.apache.org>.

Then, can you please send the existing code repository details on dev mailing
list ?

Basically, the first steps is:
- check license
- add ASF headers in all files
- add DISCLAIMER, LICENSE and NOTICE files
- eventually rename packages/artifacts to org.apache.bluemarlin
- prepare a source artifact containing all and named with version-incubator

Once this is done (or meantime), we can move forward with website.

Let’s move forward on dev mailing list about these actions.

Thanks,
Regards

Re: [VOTE] Retire BlueMarlin project from Incubator

2021-02-21 Thread Jean-Baptiste Onofre
Hi,

I think it’s important to keep the state on dev mailing list (publicly).

The key think while in the incubator is to build/grow up the community.

So, let’s share the detail on the BlueMarlin dev mailing list and move forward
there.

It’s important to give visibility to everyone.

Thanks,
Regards

2021-02-21 Thread Jean-Baptiste Onofre
Hi,

I kindly request a couple of weeks about moving forward with this vote. I try a
new time to ping the BlueMarlin team to move forward with code donation and
bootstrap the project. I have to admit that it’s super long and I have some
difficulty to interact with the team, but I would like to give a last chance.

Thanks !

Re: [DISCUSS] EventMesh Proposal

2021-01-27 Thread Jean-Baptiste Onofre
If you are open to evaluate/PoC EventMesh with Karaf (especially, Karaf 5 would
be a prefect candidate), you can count on me !

I would be more than happy to be mentor on EventMesh if you think it would be
helpful.

Thanks !

Re: [DISCUSS] EventMesh Proposal

2021-01-27 Thread Jean-Baptiste Onofre
Hi Eason,

That’s an interesting proposal, indeed.

I would rewrite some part of the proposal, but overall good.

I will check if the EventMesh architecture is "pluggable", meaning that we
"could" replace RocketMQ with another messaging/async provider.

Anyway, if you need some help on the project, please let me know, it’s
interesting and could be a good extend to Apache Karaf for instance.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for your update. It makes sense and Wayang looks actually as a great
"extend" to Spark/Beam/Nemo.

Happy to be mentor if you want me ! ;)

Thanks again,

Hi,

As it seems a bit close to Apache Beam, I would be interested by follow and/or
mentor the project.

Please let me know if you want an additional mentor on this podling.

By the way, what’s Wayang position regarding Apache Beam and Apache Nemo ?

By the way, did you evaluate the potential relationship with Camel or NIFI (and
what’s the pros/cons if it’s possible to compare with) ?

Hi Justin,

I might have missed your message about the name.

Do you want me to do a quick search about Rainbow ? (It sounds like a very

Agree, that was my first thought: work during the incubation phase to build
project/community.

Let’s say what the other IPMC members think (maybe some would like to join the
project ;) ).

Re: [DISCUSS] Project proposal - Apache Rainbow

2020-03-24 Thread Jean-Baptiste Onofre
Hi,

Yes, it’s a very early stage project, discussed between several Apache
contributor.

We wanted to use the incubator as the "platform" to build the project and the
community around the project.
Do you think it’s more a "lab" related project ?

 Couple points/questions:

 * The existing source is not available for viewing as it is still in
 private repos?
 * Is it a primarily java project?
 * It seems the intent of Rainbow is to not compete or overlap with the
Hadoop ecosystem projects but rather to provide an efficient interface
 above them - correct?

Re: [DISCUSS] Apache BlueMarlin proposal

2020-03-15 Thread Jean-Baptiste Onofre
Hi Justin,

- Good point about the community. We know it’s a point we have to work
generally speaking.
- +1 about the "inexperience with open source" section, I will add some content.
- Agree to start only with dev mailing list
- we are kindly asking for gitbox repo (not svn). It’s in the proposal draft:
https://gitbox.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/bluemarlin

- the initial committer list is the actual team who created the project. We bet
on the incubation phase to increase this list obviously. I will check with Xun
if there is no miss in the initial committer list.
- I think we already have three good mentors but we wanted to add additional
people to help building the community. If it’s a issue, we can reduce the list
or invite new mentors on the podling.

JB

[DISCUSS] Apache BlueMarlin proposal

2020-03-15 Thread Jean-Baptiste Onofre
Hi,

With other guys, I worked on a new proposal for the Apache Incubator: Apache
BlueMarlin.

The proposal draft is there:

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/INCUBATOR/Apache+BlueMarlin

Even if the people behind BlueMarlin are a bit "new" to Apache, they are really
enthusiasts and asked help to several Apache members.

From a project standpoint, it’s interesting as it’s new area that we don’t have
yet in the Apache foundation. Building a framework for web
marketing/advertising business is interesting IMHO and we could see several
platforms based on BlueMarlin.

Thoughts ?

JB

This release includes the following changes:
 * Moved to JDK11 support by default. 1.0.0 drops support for JDK8.
 * Added ethnetstats library.
 * Added key-value store functionalities: proxy store, stores are now
generic, not just bytes, and have the ability to iterate over keys or

 their contents.
 * Added support for JPA-backed key value stores
 * Added eth2 reference tests repository. This repository is checked out

a submodule, and will be used to test SSZ going forward.
 * Fix TUWENI-30: expose key for GenericHash
 * Allow CN as option when generating the self-signed certs (used to be
 example.com )
 * Move Jenkins build to Jenkinsfile inside the repo.
