Re: [VOTE] Release Apache ECharts (incubating) 4.5.0 (release candidate 2)

2019-11-12 Thread SHUANG SU
Hi Justin,

Thank you very much for the detailed checking and voting.

About the issues you mentioned:

> The offical download page [1] says to use nom to install as the first
option it probably shouldn’t be doing that.

Most of the JavaScript project fetch libraries from package manager like
NPM and rare project manually download the source code from SVN. And some
other project like Apache Cordova [4] also use NPM as the primary download
approach. So by convention we put NPM as the first one. But it is also OK
to change the order if really necessary, since both of the download
approach are listed and visible easily.

> The README provides a link to:
> IMO It needs to be clear on that page that this is an Apache project.
(While the author is apache, the project is not referred to as Apache
ECharts.)

We can not find a way to edit the CDN page. It seems auto fetch the account
(Apache) from Github or somewhere.
Apache Cordova has the same issue [5].

> I also notice the RC are published here - is their a reason for that?

We originally managed the voting stage should also be a CI testing process
by other projects using echarts.
Put the RC to NPM is necessary for that kind of testing. But in practice it
seems rear projects do testing work
in the voting stage. So I think we can change the process that do not put
the RC to NPM in the next release.

> Going on the published date the builder [2] seems to be distributing a
release candidate as well to the general public rather than a released
version? (It a little hard to tell as teh version is not obvious). Is this
correct? [3]

The RC is not published to the builder page. Only the formal released code
is put on the builder page.
But we can make this page more clearly about the version hint.

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache ECharts (incubating) 4.3.0 (release candidate 2)

2019-09-13 Thread SHUANG SU
Sheng,

Currently, the sha512 is generated by `gpg` following the instruction [1],
but not by `shasum`.

The format of the generated sha512 files are different although the
signatures are the same.

If we generate the sha512 file using:
```shell
shasum -a 512 apache-echarts-4.3.0-rc.2-incubating-src.zip
```
We can verify it by:
```shell
shasum -a 512 -c apache-echarts-4.3.0-rc.2-incubating-src.zip.sha512
```
But if we use `gpg`, the verification command above seems do not work.

(BTW, `shasum -c xxx` use `sha1` by default, so we should specify `-a 512`.)

So for `gpg`, I have to verify it in this way:
```shell
gpg --print-md SHA512 apache-echarts-4.3.0-rc.2-incubating-src.zip
apache-echarts-4.3.0-rc.2-incubating-src.zip-local.sha512
diff apache-echarts-4.3.0-rc.2-incubating-src.zip-local.sha512
apache-echarts-4.3.0-rc.2-incubating-src.zip.sha512
```
Is there a better way?

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache ECharts (incubating) 4.3.0 (release candidate 2)

2019-09-12 Thread SHUANG SU
Justin & Furkan, thank you for the detailed check!

There is a relevant build instruction in
https://echarts.apache.org/en/tutorial.html#Create%20Custom%20Build%20of%20ECharts
and the link is listed in `README.md`.

But I also think it is not clear enough and the doc is on the perspective
of echarts user but not echarts contributor.

I will add instruction of "how to build from the source code" to
`README.md` directly,
and add the entry of `npm run build` and `npm run build:watch` to
`package.json`.
Hope that makes it better.

Because it is an enhancement, could we include this modification of
`README.md`
in the future release, but not in this release?

Thanks,

The changes from Apache ECharts (incubating) 4.3.0 (release candidate 1):

(1) Remove the author tags that are not removed. Author tag is brought by
previous
code style but has been not recommanded any more for long time.
(2) Remove the code snippet that has copyright issue from
`./src/component/toolbox/feature/DataView.js`.
(3) The previous code snippet that has copyright issue in
`./src/component/brush/selector.js` is
from a blog but seems like originally from a online lecture of an
university (where the link is not able to access).
We remove it and rewrite the code based on the fundamental math derivation.
(4) Remove all of the old website link `http://echarts.baidu.com` from the
comments of the code.

Those projects do not belong to apache-echarts.
They are some extensions based on apache-echarts or examples or some tools
help to make
data visualization using to echarts,
just like the other thousands of repos related to echarts if searching
"echarts" on GitHub.

The official website project is
https://github.com/apache/incubator-echarts-website.git
And we need do more discussion about it in dev@echarts.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Release Apache ECharts (incubating) 4.1.0

2018-08-14 Thread SHUANG SU
Thanks.

Sorry for the mistake. The correct vote thread should be
https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/4a551cd183a7ec74c2f5629b8c2c128f82cff6d044d524fcc4d2a175@%3Cgeneral.incubator.apache.org%3E

Is <http://www.apache.org/dist/incubator/echarts/> the Apache mirror link?
It has been included in the download page http://echarts.apache.org/download
,
(It is the button-like link under the title of "Download Source"). KEYS is
also included in
this link.

About the online builder, we've made the auto-check tool to ensure the
correctness during the process of publish.
But I have not found a way for end-user to check the downloaded file since
the online build is totally run on the
browser, without server and without pre-build. Fortunately we have not
received a report about any fail on download stage.
But I am considering may be a shell command can be provided for end-user
to check the version and some
features of the content.

Thanks

Yes. Not only the theme, there are more issues if considering the user
convenience, including but not limited to the map file usage, importing
echarts
in Node.js environment, directly importing prebuilt products, visiting the
examples. Some of them are included in the artifacts of the previous
release candidate.
But I think most of the resource and files generated for convenience issues
are probably beyond the scope of the "source release", as the strict
definition
discussed in the thread of the voting for rc3.

So in the formal source release we only provide pure source code, and
convenience issues are tried to be covered by the project website and
Github repo.

Hi Dave,

Most of the logic in `src/chart/tree/layoutHelper.js` is based on
https://github.com/d3/d3-hierarchy/blob/44ba491e8c6d5b8af21280f6507d4d
372bc4272d/src/tree.js

But, basically the file is a collection of layout utils for the tree
component, in which some other logic
not relative to d3 also exists, and may be added more in futher. So I think
it is still a file that under the
Apache license as other files of this project, and including some code with
d3 BSD license embeded.

Thanks.

Yes, it is the vote for the release of 4.1.0, release candidate 4. I should
have made it clearly

Thanks, I have canceled the previous vote just now.

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache ECharts (incubating) 4.1.0.rc4

2018-05-30 Thread SHUANG SU
Kevin,

Sorry, I am being confused with the voting progress:

Firstly, I called a vote for 4.1.0.rc3 on "general@incubator.apache.org",
and then received some comments.
Then, I fixed the artifact according to those comments, and called a vote
for 4.1.0.rc4 on "d...@echarts.apache.org",
and then the vote passed.
Then, I am calling a vote for 4.1.0.rc4 on "general@incubator.apache.org"
now.

Did I do it correctly?
Or, maybe, I should have skipped the vote for 4.1.0.rc4 on "
d...@echarts.apache.org",
but call a vote for 4.1.0.rc4 on "general@incubator.apache.org" directly
after I fixed the 4.1.0.rc3?

Mike and Ted, thanks a lot for your detailed explanation!

I've been gradually understanding the way that the community thinks
about the "release". And I will fix the artifact soon.

Thanks,

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache ECharts (incubating) 4.1.0.rc3

2018-05-20 Thread SHUANG SU
Thanks, Justin,

I think I should remove the jar about rat from the artifact, and then there
is no binary code anymore.

But I am puzzled about the definition of the term "compiled code".
Generally, the JavaScript code does not need to be compiled to binary.
The code in "dist/**" is also JavaScript code, which is combined to some
single files
and some of them are minified. And the ".map" file is provided for mapping
each term
of the combined code to the original code in src/**. Without or without the
".map",
the combined code can be checked.
I think this kind of combined code is not "compiled code", but I don't know
the formal definition
about this case.

Thanks,
Shuang

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache ECharts (incubating) 4.1.0.rc3

2018-05-20 Thread SHUANG SU
Thanks, Willem.

But I will explain the reason that provides an all-in-one artifact.

I understand that one of the reasons for separating src and binary files
is that in some project the compilation is depending on the target runtime
environment and thus the products cannot be enumerated completely.
The other reason might be that the binary files are different to be checked.
(Am I correct? or miss something notable?)

But in this kind of JavaScript program, the built products is environment
independent and can be enumerated completely.

And the build products of the JavaScript project is text-based, which can
be
checked basically.

Moreover, there are too many approaches to require and use a JavaScript
project.
First of all, a user project may be a browser project or run on
a server (Node.js) or both.
Both in those runtime environments, the user project may need to required a
pre-combined
built file via AMD or CommonJS module loader or global variable or some
bundle tools like
Webpack and rollup.js (provided in dist/**).
Or the user project may intent to require files separately on demand via
CommonJS
or some bundle tools like Webpack and rollup.js (provided in lib/**).
Or the user project may intent to require files via ES module loader
(provided in src/**).
During the development of user projects, probably more than one approaches
are needed.

So we both provide those files all-in-one in the artifacts for the
convenience of the users.
And this way follows the convention of most of the JavaSript libs, and it
works well for years in
the ECharts community.

Truly,
Su Shuang

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache ECharts (incubating) 4.1.0.rc3

2018-05-18 Thread SHUANG SU
John,

(1) The included jar file of license check tool (Rat) is for developers'
convenience.
Basically, the infrastructure about building, checking and releasing of the
ECharts is based on
Node.js, thus it is not convenient for the developers and users to find and
install Java-based
tool (Rat) to check or add the file license. (Most of them do not have the
Maven installed, or even
some of them do not have the Java environment installed, and basically, it
should not be necessary).
So we include the jar directly for there convenience, and also provides a
Node.js based license check
tool included (build/addHeader.js) providing the same functionality.
But I have no idea yet what update should be added to LICENSE or NOTICE for
this checking tool.
Could I have some detailed suggestion or example?

(2) About wrapper
The source file of the wrapper (build/rat/runrat.jar) is included in
"build/rat/src/**".
Providing a wrapper to run Rat is something helplessness. The Rat provides
the feature of
"list excluding regexp patterns in a file (say, ".rat-excludes")", but the
patterns can only match the file
names but not the file paths. Commonly, this kind of feature enables to
match file paths, which is
necessary.
For example, I want to accurately exclude a file "test/lib/abcd.js", but
do not want to
exclude other files named "abcd.js", and this kind of files should be
listed in the file ".rat-excludes"
for maintenance consideration. I can not find a direct way to do it in Rat.
So I have to make
a wrapper to run Rat as a workaround to resolve the issue.

(
Some details about why Rat does not support match file path:
In the "org.apache.rat.walker.Walker#isIgnore" (v0.12),
see "http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/creadur/rat/tags/apache-
rat-project-0.12-RC3/apache-rat-core/src/main/java/org/
apache/rat/walker/Walker.java",
the "filter.accept(dir, name)" is called with the input of "dir" (file base
dir) and "name" (file name without path).
But in the implementation of the
"org.apache.commons.io.filefilter.RegexFileFilter"
and
"org.apache.commons.io.filefilter.WildcardFileFilter" (v2.2), only "name"
is used and "dir" is ignored,
see "https://git1-us-west.apache.org/repos/asf?p=commons-io.
git;a=blob;f=src/main/java/org/apache/commons/io/filefilter/RegexFileFilter.
