website (was RE: [PATCH] promoted sub-projects)
In response to everyones feedback* I took another look at what I thought would have been a simple small change.. I ended up moving everything around in the menus and on the home page, as patches probably wouldn't do it justice I've stuck a copy of the resulting html here http://www.apache.org/~danny/index.html (c.f. http://jakarta.apache.org) What I've done is.. in the menu I've tried to make it more Jakarta oriented and less of a list of sub-projects changed sub projects to products, no need to expose the organisation in the site-nav added related to link to other projects, no need to explain exactly how things are related, keeps them distinct from products whos support is provided by jakarta. re-organised links to other resources into about jakarta, reference and support and re-ordered the menu sections In the index page I've tried to reduce the quantity of data without reducing the quaility of information, I felt that it isn't doing justice as an introduction to the project, it looks mostly like old(ish) news headlines. moved welcome to the top, added some words about related refactored subprojects to products moved the ASF text to the welcome section and dropped the incomplete list of ASF projects in favour of a link dropped the XML.apache text in favour of a link to xml.apache in the related menu section compressed the news headlines format dropped the headlines from elsewhere in favour of a link to the elsewhere news page Of course I only really intend this to serve as a focus for another round of opinion gathering, I've made some arbitrary changes that might not be popular, but I could commit it if people think its generally an improvement on the current nav and homepage. d. * There seems to be general favour for retaining links to promoted projects, and removing un-necessary exposure of organisational detail. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
