Hi,

I wonder whether the Tizen Studio can be built from the components
available at review.tizen.org? If it can, where can I find build
instructions? I see a rather large number of projects with "sdk" in
their names [1], some of them are forks of corresponding Eclipse
components, but not all. If it cannot be built purely from those
sources, can anyone please point out which proprietary components are
lacking from the repositories?

Now, the license seems to indicate that there are indeed some
proprietary components:
> IMPORTANT NOTE: This license is primarily applicable to several
> proprietary components, which are not open sourced. If applicable, the
> Open Source Software license shall take precedence over the rights and
> restrictions granted in this Agreement, but solely with respect to
> such Open Source Software.
(This is from the license agreement text as displayed by the most recent
Studio release at the installer start-up.)

It goes on to say
> 3.1 Except for the limited license granted to You herein, You agree
> that all right, title and interest in and to the TIZEN STUDIO
> including the concepts and technology inherent in them, Samsung or
> Tizen trademarks, copyrights, patents, trade secrets and other
> intellectual property rights, are, and at all times shall remain, the
> sole and exclusive property of Samsung. Except to the extent permitted
> under this Agreement or by applicable law, You shall not (i) modify,
> reverse engineer or disassemble any portion of the TIZEN STUDIO; (ii)
> lease, rent, copy, redistribute or sublicense the TIZEN STUDIO to
> third party; or (iii) remove, efface or obscure any copyright notices,
> logos or other proprietary notices or legends included in the TIZEN
> STUDIO. You may not use any component part of the TIZEN STUDIO in any
> way independent from the TIZEN STUDIO. You may not load or install any

> personal computer.
According to the above, even if the source code of the entire Tizen
Studio is available, we are forbidden from distributing modified
versions of it.

Interestingly, an official web page [2] claims that
> The Tizen Studio is an open-source project. You can contribute to the
> source code and help improve the Tizen Studio.
and also offers generic instructions like
> git clone ssh://<ID>@review.tizen.org:29418/<git project path>
However, it is not clear what the <git project path> should be, as the
Studio is not a single project.

David Greaves brought up the question of licensing on this list in 2012:
[3], [4] and it seems, things have not changed since then, have they?
The license I looked at has "Last Updated July, 2016" timestamp, which
is older than [2] (but the Studio release distributed with it is
younger). Is there a contradiction? Or is it just that proprietary can
be open-source (but then why have "reverse engineer or disassemble ..."
in the license agreement)?

So to summarize, my main questions are:
- Are there proprietary software components (i.e. modified versions of
which could not be redistributed), what are they?
- Are they closed-source; can I build the Tizen Studio?
- Is the license agreement I've read in sync with reality?
- What about page [2]?

I'd be grateful for clarification on any of these.
