Ah, maybe "moving to the Attic" is the phrase I was trying to avoid then
:). Thanks, John.
Agreed on the software still being great and going to receive love.

That sounds like retirement to me. The way I've always seen it is that
podlings don't fail, the people behind them simply had a change in
priorities.
Gossip is a great toolkit that I believe people will continue to use.

I've been trying to be patient around this, but I think this month's
incubator report must be "Gossip is going to exit incubation" (I'm not
sure what the proper verb is here; I only know that "retire" is wrong)
We've gone through many months where the only traffic I've seen on the
mailing
Hi community,
I got the the following error when accessing https://incubator.apache.org/

Hi -
Podlings do not retire to the Attic. The Attic is for TLPs. Any interested
party should be sure to make their fork shortly.
+1 (binding)

I reviewed the diff between this release and the last.

We have been working for quite some time to desensitize people so that they
don't have a strong emotional cost associated with different ways to leave
incubation. That animus just gets people to avoid the right decision for
far too long.

The Voting results from dev@ had:
6 +1 to retire the project
1 -1
This is a call for Vote to retire/attic the podling and will run for 72 hrs
ending on Saturday - June 30 2018.
Please Vote:
+1 - Yes, Retire the podling
-1
Wait, does that mean that the source for all retired podlings
disappears from all ASF repos (no archive) when a podling is retired??
If that's the case, I vote -1 for this retirement, and all future such
votes. If that's not the case, then sure. But I'm against anything
that potentially results
The code stays put and wouldn't implode.
Example is Apache Pirk which retired early 2017 -

+1 to retire
Somebody should reach out to the ECI Telecom person for voted -1 to let
them know that the project isn't necessarily dying with this step and to
let them know that they can fork the project and revive it (outside of the
Incubator for now)

Yes we did clarify that with ECI

We already did that on the other thread for the PMC.

Please note the mixed public/private lists.
