After clearing up some questions and getting an SGA from IBM to make
sure, the IP Clearance of the "Atomos Codebase" contribution passes.

We will proceed to incorporate the code in Felix.

I discussed it with Tom and since he did have the internal clearance
he figured it would be easiest to just get an SGA from IBM.

It has just been received by secretary (its in the grants.txt) and
gives us card blanche for https://github.com/tjwatson/atomos.

Re: [IP CLEARANCE] Atomos Codebase

2020-02-11 Thread John D. Ament
CCLAs simply tell us that a company is aware that their employees are
contributing to ASF projects. They don't really help much in the way of
getting code transitioned here.

I think the problem at the root is the fact that the code was relicensed,
removing IBM specific headers. If the code never had IBM licensing on it,
this would be a very easy +1 but because of the relicensing, it's a -1 from
me until we get an SGA from IBM. Do we have an ICLA from Stefan Bischof as
well? It looks like his contributions are post-relicensing but wanted to
check.

Let me try to rephrase that:

The project has been done by Thomas Watson who has an iCLA, works for
IBM, and is a Felix PMC. I was assuming that would be enough to have
him be able to contribute this code. If we think we want something
more like a specific SGA or CCLA from IBM than I can try to work with
him on that. Is that what we want?

I'm not sure how that follows - which code is EPL? Anyways, the code
is from an IBM employee that got clearance to contribute it to Apache.

The main contributor is Thomas Watson (who did the change) - there is
very little contribution from somebody else in the first place.
However, if we want to go through we have Raymond Auge who voted on
the contribution acceptance, Stefan Bischof who agreed to the
contribution as is and submitted an icla for it, and one commit from
Samuel E Bratton.

I can see that until a month ago it was under the EPL license. Did all of the

It also seems that the code was copyright is IBM. Have they given permission

[IP CLEARANCE] Atomos Codebase

2020-02-11 Thread Karl Pauls
The Apache Felix project has received an "Atomos" contribution from
Thomas Watson.

Atomos is a Java module framework using OSGi Connect which is a
proposal (RFC) for the upcoming OSGI R8 Core specification.

- A snapshot of the code, that is already ALv2, is available in a
github repo: [0]
- The IP Clearance form has been committed [1]
- The acceptance vote has passed on the d...@felix.apache.org mailing list [2]

The clearance passes by lazy consensus if no -1 votes are cast within
the next 72 hours.

Karl
