[gentoo-dev] New developer: Vic Fryzel (shellsage)

2007-01-21 Thread Christian Heim

It's my pleasure to introduce to you Vic Fryzel (also known as shellsage),
our latest addition joining the Gentoo Security force.

Vic is joining from Rochester (that's in New York, USA). He's a senior
engineer for Paychex, Inc and his main work-related project right now is the
development of a wiki-based content management system.

He states to me proficient in most languages/paradigms/operating systems,
including low level interfaces. He also knows how to do security auditing
(which he used to do for a living). More over, he knows how to manage team
projects.

When Vic isn't sitting in front of his computer (either at work or at home) he
tries to spend some time with his girlfriend Janelle, their dog Lacey and
their cat Apollo. And if he's got any spare time left (after spending some
time with the above), he builds model rockets, robots, and open source
software. And please be aware, he's assistant instructor and student of
Shaolin Wu Su Kung Fu.

Please welcome Vic as a new fellow developer among us !

[gentoo-dev] Overlay commit messages

2007-01-21 Thread James Cloos
A humble request from a user who tracks several of the proj and dev
overlays:

Since there are no lists receiving commit messgaes, trac's timeline
rss feed is the only way to keep track (no pun intended) of updates
to the various svn-managed overlays, such as on overlays.gentoo.org,
sunrise, etc. AFAICT, trac's rss only supports the commit messages
and URLs to the diffs.

Given that, it is impossible to determine what was updated unless
each commit message references the ${CATEGORY}/${PN} of each ebuild
that said commit changes.

We users would appreciate it greatly were you devs to be more diligent
in mentioning the ${CATEGORY}/${PN} in the commit messages.

Thank you,

Partly, CIA comes in handy sometimes.

For Sunrise we use a tool called sunrise-commit (works on any other svn
repo as well) that automatically injects the path into the commit message.
an example can be seen here:
http://cia.navi.cx/stats/project/sunrise/.message/2baac3

Maybe we could improve it a bit for git support as well and then
recommend it as tool to use with overlays. Thoughts?

Couldn't the timeline RSS feed just have the paths get added to it by
the overlays.g.o guys?

[gentoo-dev] Last rites for media-sound/amp

2007-01-21 Thread Diego 'Flameeyes' Pettenò
This time not a broken package, but a strange one; amp is An Mpeg Player,
but its upstream is dead since 1997, we currently host it, but it's not
really optimal as there's no upstream at all.

If someone wants to take over maintainership (which means upstream too), feel
free, otherwise I'd be for masking it and removing as we're plenty of other
console mp3 players.

Well, if really no one wants it, I guess you can add it to text-markup,
since it's TeX-based (iirc). That said, I personnally don't have time to
give it the love it seems to need.
