Here follows the usual insults and introductions of our newest addition
Davide dav_it Italiano. After realizing that we has trying to log in
to dev.gentoo.org with a wrong user name he know has access to Gentoo
development boxes. He will be using his powers in the Artwork and GWN
teams. Davide is a student from Italy and his hobbies are: dark rock
music, opensource software, volleyball, theorethical physics, calculus
 and shoujo anime.

Let the usual mud slinging begin.

You can't resign! I won't let you!

Isn't fmccor the only active dev left on the sparc team? I'm guessing this
pretty much means the end of the sparc port for Gentoo.

  Hi,

With compiz 0.5.4, we get the first version that depends on xcb.
While we still have an open bug asking for use-masking xcb
  https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=174434
I'd like to open the question just the other way round: When can we
  make xcb default?

Is there a save way to change from non-xcb to xcb?
I'm asking because last time I changed from xcb to non-xcb (because I
needed java for a project), only un-setting the xcb USE-flag and
rebuilding the packages with changed USE-flags didn't really help but
I rather had to rebuild all gnome-/gtk-packages manually. Otherwise I
got the nice xcb-lock errors everywhere.

 Cheers,
 Tiziano

I use the proposed libxcb patch from the b.g.o. bug entry.. both, java
and xcb work fine.

Cheers,
Tom

[gentoo-dev] New Staff Developer: Maarten Bressers (mbres)

2007-08-28 Thread Christian Heim

It's my pleasure to introduce to you Maarten Bresses (also known as mbres on
IRC), our latest addition joining the kernel herd.

Maarten is joining us from Boxtel (that should be located in the Netherlands),
were he spent the last 2 years as a goat farmer.

If Maarten isn't around computers, he's enjoying music, reading a good book,
playing guitar or playing darts.

So please welcome Maarten as new fellow developer among us!

Regards,

   Christian

I can confirm that Boxtel is in the Netherlands. And it's next to one of
my favorite nature reserves in the Netherlands: De Kampina. Recommended
for some hiking.

Anyway, good to see the Dutch contingent growing!

So please welcome Maarten as new fellow developer among us!

Welkom!

Kind regards,

But! But! But you're the only sparc team member that ever bothered to
help me with the sparc handbook updates and other documents.

Sorry to see you go; I've enjoyed working with you. Fortune to your
