[gentoo-dev] Re: RFC: new 'virtualization' project or herd

Sorry that it took so long to answer, but I was quiet busy with real life.

Sounds like a good idea, there seem to be enough packages to warrant it.
~ Especially if you're finding shared packages and space for integration
 of components.
Good :-)

 | So, what do you think?

As one of the primary vmware devs, I'm not sure that vmware easily fits
into this group based on it's closed-source nature, and the complex (but
just about workable) module system we've put in place. I also wouldn't
want to muddy the virtualization email address with all the random
 vmware module bugs... 5:)

I'm pretty happy for the vmware group to go under the virtualization
herd, but I'd very much like to maintain the vmware email
alias/assignment for bugs, and I'm not sure how much we'd be able to
integrate with the larger group. Do you think it's worthwhile vmware
joining the umbrella or should we just stay separate?

That's true. How about having a virtualization project which takes care of
the common part, the docs and the coordination (if any) and have separate
herds for larger subprojects?

Cheers,
Tiziano

EAPI-1 is approved for use in the tree. People are encouraged to use
it whenever they need any feature provided by it. IIRC, system
packages are an exception, but it's perfectly ok for the rest.

[gentoo-dev] FRC: debtools herd creation

2008-05-16 Thread Yuri Vasilevski
Hello All,

I will be adding some debian build tools to the tree, and would like to
create the debtools herd to associate with the packages.

I'll be adding things like debhelper, lintian and a little
bit later things like apt, aptitude, cdebootstrap, debian-live and some more.
Also there is debootstrap with [EMAIL PROTECTED] which I'd
like to adopt.

Any comments, sugestions and objections are more than welcome.

Kindest regards,
Yuri.

I dabbled with dpatch a few times:

if you want to take debianutils as well, that'd be great

They probably aren't in the tree because nobody asked for them to be
in the tree. Please, be so kind to open an enhancement request at
http://bugs.gentoo.org and provide a working ebuild if possible.

[gentoo-dev] reminder - mips is unstable

2008-05-16 Thread Ryan Hill
Just a friendly reminder. Because the stable mips keyword is being
phased out, there is no need to CC mips on stabilization bugs. Also
try to refrain from dropping the mips keyword because of repoman
warnings. They are probably caused by an ebuild having a stable mips
keyword and a dependency on a ebuild with an unstable mips keyword.
If this is the case, ignore them or drop the mips keyword on the
offending ebuild to unstable. If unsure, feel free to poke us on IRC.

Thanks.
