[gentoo-dev] radeon video card

2020-04-15 Thread William Kenworthy

Hi all,

How can I check that the microcode is being loaded by a radeon
HD5770 graphics card?

I have used "https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Radeon; to set it up, but
there is nothing in dmesg about loading the firmware like you see with
the cpu microcode - the card works without the firmware compiled in, or
in the initramfs (or finds it after these stages - cant tell)

Can someone confirm that as its a PCI-E card, I don't need the kernel
AGPGART to be enabled?

That's a dependency running on the native build system (as opposed to
the system being built).

Thanks, yeah. That makes sense.

I'm not sure what CBUILD means. What is that?

The BDEPEND was added for https://bugs.gentoo.org/700018 , which is
still needed so the command is in / during sysroot builds, or
installing fails. Maybe deps could be:

EAPI < 7: RDEPEND
EAPI = 7: RDEPEND + BDEPEND
EAPI > 7: IDEPEND

Thanks.

This is a CBUILD type dependency, right? Then there is no good way to
express it in EAPI 7. Still, I think that it should be specified in
BDEPEND (and maybe RDEPEND in addition).
