2006-10-13 Thread Thierry Carrez
Hello everyone,

I think the time has come for me to leave this project after two and a
half years of service.

I used to have a job and situation that left me a lot of time to work
for Gentoo, and security work is something that takes a lot of time and
dedication. Now that I'm a father, that I changed jobs and (recently)
houses, it's simply not possible anymore.

For all those that voted for me (or not against) I've done my best to
honor my Council position until the end. Working for Gentoo those days
requires more energy (and brings less pleasure) than previously. Combine
that with very small time segments to dedicate to it, you get a useful
activity that seriously tends towards zero.

I always disliked inactive developers still hanging around doing nothing
but commenting what the others do, so now that I can't spend enough
time to be of real help I'll try to leave properly.

With all those senior developers resigning, an understaffed Security
team and nobody to replace me to maintain GNAP (BaSS ?) it's probably
not the best time, but I didn't chose it.

It's been a pleasure and a great experience being part of Gentoo
Security Team and of Gentoo in general. I've met in person or
electronically very nice people, you know who you are.

I'll drop by on IRC from time to time (if that guy taking my nick when
I'm away calms down) because friends are friends :) When all Gentoo
accounts die you will still be able to reach me at koon (at) thyone
(dot) net.

Infra/devrel should probably let a few days pass (let's say the end of
the month) before killing everything koon-related, since I may have to
pass some things to my successors in Security or GNAP.

Sad to see you go Thierry, but at least it's for a (mostly) happy reason,
isn't it?

Good luck for your job and the family :) Be sure to pass by on IRC too!

Congrats on the new family. And many thanks for everything you've
done for Gentoo during your time as a dev. Here's hoping we see you
come back one day.

Best regards,
Stu

Congratulations!
One of these days i'm gonna trade in all Gentoo devs for a child, too.
Just one little crying child to take care of instead of 300. ;-)

Thanks for your Gentoo work, i guess your name will be remembered well
(among other things because of all the GLSA mails you sent out).

cheers,
Wernfried

Thierry,

Thanks for your dedication to Gentoo, especially for your persistent
work on both the security team and the metastructure reorganisation.
I will always remember you for that (and the discussions during
FOSDEM '05).

Farewell, good bye and all the best to you and your family.

Danny
