It's a maintenance burden we don't need any longer now that sys-fs/udev can be installed on all of the platforms we support. I would guess that the majority of active developers in the base-system project want to see it gone. Also, I am planning to replace the poorly maintained "hwids" package with the "hwdata" package maintained by a Red Hat employee. Part of this plan involved installing the hwdb data that is shipped with udev/systemd. This plan would be blocked if eudev remained in Gentoo.

Regarding maintainership, AFAIK one person who's involved in the new upstream is also interested in maintaining this in Gentoo. But this is just based on my current assumption. Hi, why do you want to drop the package? Since news item, upstream changed. There will be a new release soon. Was this just on your list to finish or is there another reason? I am currently watching upstream and would wait to see if they really do the release and keep up with the promise. We can still last-rite next quarter, not? -- Regards, Thomas Deutschmann / Gentoo Linux Developer fpr: C4DD 695F A713 8F24 2AA1 5638 5849 7EE5 1D5D 74A5 OpenPGP_signature Description: OpenPGP digital signature
