Here's a list of packages that depend on media-libs/jpeg, to make it
easier to scan for your packages and see if there's anything you
should do.

`ls` on filename doesnt mean it's binary compatible. it just means it
*claims* to be binary compatible.

has anyone actually looked at the exported symbol list and compared sizes of
non-functions/etc... ?

do you want all maintainers to run s:media-libs/jpeg:virtual/jpeg: ?
you'll save everyone's time by doing it yourself, or is there some kind of
testing to do before converting ?

A.

Think it more like 'call for extra help', we'll eventually convert
everything anyway...
but if maintainers (other developers) decide they want to help, it's
just a plus and things will go faster

At least compile testing against libjpeg-turbo. Runtime testing is a plus.

Is media-libs/jpeg binary compatible with media-libs/libjpeg-turbo?

I'm not sure what to do with chromium-bin, which is compiled on a Gentoo
system.

As some of you are aware libjpeg-turbo is in the tree, with v8 support.
We will not keyword for any archs until we officially add the 1.1
release that is not avaliable as of yet. If we all use virtual/jpeg we
can ensure that the user has the right to determine what version of jpeg
they wish to use. I have already began the process with packages that
have been tested a few packages that have already been converted include
but are not limited to, openoffice, gegl, mplayer. qt-gui, vigra,
chromium, ghostscript-gpl, mjpegtools, gdk-pixbug, gimp transcode and
imaging.
